I wonder if we're 100% committed to taking Schache, assuming he's not taken by Carlton?

Is it possible we could be looking at someone else?

Nope.

Watching his highlights video he doesn't even seem that slow. Seems like his quick first few steps (Quigley has touched on this a few times) is enough to get him out of trouble and get moving. Seems like he just needs to iron those kicks out, they do seem to up-and-under a fair bit

Yeah, his a smart player who doesn't really get caught out at all due to his lack of speed because of his smarts. Don't see it being an issue. Kicking is fine for the junior levels, but he'll need to iron it out at AFL level as the opposition players will eat that stuff up.

Schache to Lions is a 100% certainty to happen.

I'm sorry everyone, I cannot remember if this has been asked previously, thought I saw this asked but cannot remember which thread nor the answer. When comparing Schache to Hogan, Boyd, Patton, McCartin where does he sit in the pecking order?

Most people seem to have him as McCartinessque in terms of pre-draft value.

At the same age, I'd have the order of Hogan, Schache, Patton, Boyd, McCartin. Schache/Patton basically equal but both posses traits the other does not so it's hard to judge.

Shocked to see Hogan kicked 44 goals this year. That is a huge first year. Might take Schache two or three years to get to that output, but I reckon he'll easily surpass Tom Boyd by his second year.

If so I presume we will be budgeting big in the cap for retention on his behalf?

It was Hogan's third year "in the system".

I think Schache will be a batter player than McCartin but you could rally throw a blanket over Boyd, Patton and Schache. Each have their own queries. Hogan would be my pick to be the best out of that lot. He just doesn't seem to have any weakness for a young KPF.

You can only compare them from when they were all in their final year as juniors. Bit hard to be comparing them with each other when Schache isn't even on an AFL list yet.

Hogan's comfortably ahead. But my list was based off their final years as juniors.

Sure was. He was 20 for all of this season, whilst Schache will be 18 for his debut season (presuming he plays).

Hogan is a freak, but let's not forget he's had some serious time in the system that included basically a whole season in the VFL in 2013 (39 goals as a 17 year old o_O).

Yep. I found all the "so impressive for a first year player" stuff about Hogan this year rather amusing.

Technically it was his first year playing in the AFL. Years in the system regardless he was mighty impressive for his first year playing AFL.

FWIW, recently heard a recruiter at a lunch rate the key forwards of the past few years (from best-worst) as:

1. Boyd
2. Schache
3. Patton
4. Hogan
5. McCartin
6. Lynch

To be clear, he was ranking them on their draft year rather than who will end up being best (which he thought would be Hogan and Lynch by some margin). But said on their junior years, if you were drafting and all were in the same draft then most clubs would have it in that order. Not a Lions recruiter btw.

Head Recruiter or scout? Wouldn't have happened to be a Port recruiter by chance? I'd be very surprised if most clubs would have it in that order if they were in the same draft as 18 year old.

Wow, she likes Hipwood then.

That is about as high as I have seen Hipwood rated by anyone.

Also the lowest I have seen Keays ranked for a while.

Either way, I just want them and Schache and we are good to go. Wouldn't say no to William or Chol if we can also pick them up.
