hoping someone opts to take jackson paine of our hands so we have two bites of the apple in the rookie draft, would be very keen to take a player with some pace to burn along with reuben, we are looking quite one paced again with our future prospects
Too true...need at least 2 line breaking ball carriers a la Reuben.

Does anybody think rookie listing William and Paine is not fait accompli?

Paine is a given unless someone else steps in, which basically never happens. William sounds near enough to be a given.

Do we know if Paine has a contract, and that might be why we're committed to re-drafting him?

I'm 99% sure that's why, but that's by application of logic rather than knowledge as such.

Being a kpd is more than just height. Both of them are over 191. Just because you're tall doesn't mean you have the game style or attributes to play as a real kpd.
Beasliy a bloody big, strong unit, and had a fantastic record against the star forwards in his TAC comp. Club likes his prospects...me too. No pre season to speak of last year, but pushed up hard.

I dont see how Skinner will get a game personally. We have Clarke, Merret, Andrews and Hipwood as tall backmen.

He's coming off a torn ACL in late May this year, so he won't get a full pre-season in until the end of next year. While away before he's pushing for senior selection you'd think.

I'm confused about how many rookie spots we have open. We have a full list of 40 which means (I think) we can have 4 category A rookies and 3 category B rookies. So right now we have Hammelman, Evans and Beasley as category A rookies. So how do we fit in both William and Paine? Does William count as category B because he's from Qld?

Couple of guys keen on from the description on the AFL website, hopefully we can clear a list spot with Jackson Paine and maybe even Hammer???

Jesse Glass-McCaskerTall defender
196cm/95kg
3/1/97
Swan Districts

The West Australian tall defender will be a good chance to find an AFL home on Friday with clubs likely to be looking to add a key backman. Glass-McCasker is athletic, pretty quick and can shut down on opponents, and is reliable in one-on-one battles. At 196cm and 95kg he should be able to come in and play a role soon.

James ParsonsMidfielder
189cm/75kg
12/4/97
Eastern Ranges

Parsons' outside run and skill level might be enough to see him get a chance as a rookie despite an up and down season. The NAB AFL Academy graduate has speed and carries the ball, and can kick the ball long and with penetration. His physical makeup also makes him a player with promise, given he should be able to add some size if he gets into the system.

Yes. We can still prelist Qld players into Cat B slots - Archie, for example.

Thanks. Found the answer here: http://www.afl.com.au/afl-hq/the-afl-explained/rookie-players - we have to have nominated them as Academy players for the national draft.

Hypothetical: can we delist existing rookies before Friday if we wanted to? Just thinking about Archie Smith v Mabior Chol? I'm guessing we persevere with Smith given he's two years into his development?

How long do you think Merrett will be around...or remain uninjured ? Hipwood and , or Andrews could be given forward roles in the future. Skinner will be in recovery mode 'til mid season...a lot can change.

Hypothetically yes, as list lodgement 3 is on Thursday.

However Archie has already re-signed for next year.

agree...no better key position draft I can recall.

Obviously to early to tell if it will end up being any good but I think it'll be better than a few of the recent ones. As someone that actually watches a lot of junior football, I made my thoughts on this years draft class pretty clear back in June regarding the comments it was weak. Everyone just jumps on the bandwagon after a media article or two that pops up on AFL.com.au and runs with it.

I read a post saying we cheated the bulldogs out of skinner and the saints out of matheison. Anyone know what the logic might be behind that?

Pretty much if you read the live draft thread at the time, St Kilda fans were creaming themselves at the fact with 3 picks to go, Bonner, Mathieson and Balic were still available. But, much to their disappointment and my amusement when reading through the thread, those three players were picked with those last 3 picks before their pick 40.

The build up and reaction to all three players being taken is priceless:D.

Not sure what the deal was with the dogs, considering they got K.Collins.

Sour grapes.
Thought that had to be it, but thought that it was strange they

Hahaha just read on their forum, they all are now convinced Mathieson will join them in 2 years. :D

Saints should have bid for Keays at 18 lowering our points value to net the two sliders. Not our fault St. Kilda's recruiting team fluffed it.
