Goes to show how badly we were set back by the combination of the misevaluation of our list and the changing of the goal posts. Good first year, Voss overestimates our list (bad). We then start our rebuild (good) but the board moves the goal posts and demands wins after a couple of years where any chance of getting real talent was cruelled by the expansion clubs (moronic).

I'm still hoping that with Leigh and Leppa on board we'll stay the course this time. Leppa might not be the one to lead us to the promised land, but I can't see a coach available that's going to magically push our list two years older and stronger.

i actually think that close could be a very good CHB , good mobility and can run all day woudl be a top match up with a CHF who likes to run.

Clarke Close , Gardiner in defence, Mcstay , Dixon , Schache up forward would be decent. Mcstay will be a beauty and freeman has shown enough he coudl be a decent focal point aswell

Tricky. If we were talking about next year, Dixon+Freemon+McStay and Close in the backline. 2017 and onwards would see Schache replace Dixon permentantly, and Dixon would probably become our Ruck if Stefans in his twilight...

We cant 100% bank on Schache if we have Dixon as a choice.

If we draft Schache and trade in Dixon I wouldn't mind trialling McStay as a High half forward/winger especially if Aish leaves. Move Close to CHB as well as IMO he just doesn't play as a natural forward.

I think Leppa sees Paparone as the CHB type he runs all day great marking ability just needs to work on his kicking which is improving.

I think more likely a FB I reckon. He can get up the ground if the FF wants to head up there but Close likes a wrestle and with a bit more bulk that kind of attitude would be handy. The wrestling FB type is not something which we have atm.

There are a few things that really impress me about Schache as a forward from the few bits I've seen. Many key forwards at that level seem to rely largely on strength for beating their opposition (Boyd and Patton especially did), which works at under 18's but less so in the AFL, but Schache seems to be much better on the lead and also has a contested marking ability that is more skill based than strength based.

He also seems really strong on the ground or on the run, which means that it's more likely he could come into senior footy and make an impact early than is the case for many key forwards. Obviously he'll still be a skinny 18 year old forward, but what's pretty obvious is that he's both a smart and skilful player, not just a strong one. Would love to get him but it's just far too early in the year to forecast where we'll end up and who we could be in the running for.

I agree with others and Close being able to play back. I actually see the possibility of Andrews and Hipwood as two mobile ruck/forwards in the future but there ability to play in other positions is a bonus. I was watching something where Graeme Richmond said get CHF and make them into other positions and we do have a certain Leppa who did the same.

Likely we will have a top3-4 pick, but i cant see where we will get another pick that high up. Aish probably 10-15 mark, but Francis looks like he will be long gone by then if he keeps up his current form. That is even assuming we end up with another pick.

I think a priority pick is much more likely than getting a top 10 pick for losing Adcock and/or Leuey, for what it's worth. And I think a priority pick is incredibly unlikely.

In saying that, if we were to go winless for the rest of the year including numerous thrashings and Aish did leave, it's definitely not infeasible. There'd be one of the stronger cases anyone could mount for it. But it would still be a shock.

It's not like we will do that badly anyway!

Could suggest the following scenario is plausible at the very least with our current ladder position:

• 1st Pick - Schache or Francis (Personally prefer Schache)
• Pick gained for Aish on traded to Suns for Dixon with possible swap of later picks (assuming interested in joining us)
• 2nd Pick (with possible adjustment of later picks) - Keays
• 3rd Pick - Hipwood (Depending on points impact)
• 4th Pick through to Rookie - William (Depending on points impact)
• Rookie Picks perhaps also Wagner and Buzza depending on how they travel over the remainder of the year and how much rival interest there is in them

Obviously a lot can and probably will change between now and draft time (particularly how our academy kids are rated) but at this stage we are not looking too bad....

Quite excited by the talk of scrapping the rookie list, by the way. Would mean more kids are given a shot in the draft each year, and more importantly, more mature aged players from state leagues would get a go I think. It has become pretty redundant over the past few years I think.

I don't think it would give more opportunities. I think the rookie list is a good place for people like Hammelmann or Bourke to develop. I couldn't see much point in Hammer being on our senior list. I think overall the playing list would reduce.
