Only 2 short clips, but impressed by Hipwood. Looks a natural rebounding CHB. Strong in the contest with his defensive marking and spoiling. Very tall but athletic, able to step around opposition. Good low flat kicks with fairly quick decision making. 200cm tall too.

And I haven't seen him play as a forward yet. How does he go in attack? We could have 2 extremely tall KPP swingmen in Andrews and Hipwood within 12 months of each other.

In his weekly draft podcast (AFL website) - Cal Twomey named Hipwood as a player possible of jumping into the 15-25 range. He did preface this by suggesting that this is one of the weakest drafts in a long time with probably only the first round picks the normal quality. He also mentioned that Keays was in his Top 15 :thumbsu:

Also said that Vic. Metro had one of its worst lists ever and that WA was pretty horrid too. SA has a few nice players but not of the Aish, Scharenberg, Dunstan ilk of 2013. Vic Country the ones to beat in Div. 1 with Weitering the standout at CHB & Schache up forward.

Want Schache badly, even if we do get a Dixon type. One of the reasons that we are in this position is we tried but never planned for the future post Brownie. If we were to get Dixon or whoever, it would give Schache, Freeman, Close another couple of years to develop and become mature KPF's. With the little vision of Schache I have seen I do like and look forward to the rest of the championships to further enhance my opinion.

Hopefully he can put in some good performances at the champs that would justify a top 5 draft selection.

If we tried that would indicate there was a plan. Let's not get failure mixed up with not planning

Not stating failure but more of the predicament that we are in. We currently have the beginnings of some KPP's in both ends and strongly feel that even though we are desperate for the mature types we still need to look forward so that current crop of young developing KPP's is complete. JB states that Freeman is the only natural KPF we have and Schache will only add and assist that.

Noticed terry Wallace didn't have keays in his top 20 last week.

Definitely interesting to watch this year given the new bidding system. Scenarios are so difficult to predict.

Let's say we get 4, 22, 40 then 10 for aish. Assume no compensation for free agents as well likely end up with 1 ourselves.

We trade 10 for Dixon.

We don't have to use 4 on keays but the points for us to claim him when someone bids for him at say pick 8 is equivalent to picks 22 and 40... We then don't have much left to claim hipwood if he is indeed bid on at say 20-25

If that scenario unfolded, we'd probably just take the deficit into next year's draft. Keays does seem to be dropping a little in calculations of late which is concerning. Still early in the draft year but hope he doesn't become another one in the list of QLD players who have a great underage year and fall away in their draft season.

We will draft Keays. Its just a matter of what we have to pay. I think his range is between 12 and 20.

Hopefully 20..... Cheaper the better.

I agree we'll almost definitely pick him up. But this stage last year he looked a top 5 player, that seems to be drifting quite a bit.

I think most many including Wallace doesn't include Keays in their top 20 as they know he's a academy player promised to us.

In saying that though, they put the two Giants in there (although they're quite clearly top 5 it seems).

I'm not too worried, he's still been gathering possessions and playing well this year. Tend to think his falling is more that draftees down south are getting more exposure. It's hard to crack into the Vic and SA sides as an underager and the focus isn't really on you as they're giving as much time as possible to guys looking to get drafted that year. A quality underager in div 2 will always have more chances to get noticed. This year as those guys from the footy states get noticed more Keays will slide as he's got a much higher baseline of past performance.

You've got guys pumping up these Queensland boys so that they make everyone think we'll be getting a steal. Everyone rated Conway, Hammer and Dawson extremely high. Never brought into any of that.

I feel different on Keays. Don't have him in the top 15 anyway. But 15-35 is his realistic draft range. Then again, clubs will bid on him which could push him up the rankings a bit more.

Will be a good player.

Wallace did reply to someone's Twitter comment on keays. Implied he was close and would get his chance in coming weeks with qld games against tac cup teams and in champs to push up.

It's a tough one do you hope he drops and we get him with lesser picks or rises and we get a gaurs teed player.

I feel where he goes in the draft will not effect his career at all. The later he goes the better for our draft and less pressure on the kid the better?

He hasn't had under 30 touches in the TAC cup games, including a game where he got in the 40s, best on in a Ressies game against GC Suns and fairly solid in his other games in the neafl. should not be concerned if he does slide a bit.

Heeney was touted as the top pick for most of last year if I'm not mistaken.

Maybe by someone like Knightmare who puts the academy players really high to make people against the academies like he is. Always an early pick but I never personally rated him at #1. Most recruiters thought it was either McCartin or Petracca depending on said clubs needs.

Wright was touted as the number 1 pick there for a while we were on the bottom of the ladder going to interesting to see how he plays today.
