I can't believe Carlton have gone ahead of us - a top 3 pick is almost a certainty.

Re the academy boys - if we have to pay close to their actual value I don't really mind. Of course I'd be happy with a steal. The real value is in drafting gun QLD talent with zero go home factor.

I think the chances of us beating Adelaide next week with our injuries are very slim and then the two following games we play Freo and Sydney which are almost certainly losses. Considering the Suns only need to win 1 more game over this three week period to overtake us on the ladder and they have some quality players returning from injury I would say there is a very good chance that we head into Round 16 on the bottom of the ladder. When was the last time we were in that predicament so late into a season?

I agree. At best we might end up with 5 wins but I can't see us getting above Melbourne or St Kilda.

I think/hope we'll end up with 4 wins which will probably see us finishing 16th or 17th.

I wonder if we end up with picks 3, 22, 40, 58, etc. Id Keays and Hipwood both got bids between our second and third picks if we would take both of them. Without doing the calculations taking both would mean that our first pick next year would be effected.

First time I have had the opportunity to watch a replay of a game these qld u18's have played... my assessments of the boys that were (in my opinion) in the best players are as follows:
Keays: Outstanding ball getter. Demands the ball from his teammates and they look for him every opportunity. Standout as the best player in the squad with his determination & strength in scrummages and one on one contests. The Tasi game will very interesting with Ben because you can almost guarantee he will be tagged closely so as to try & lessen his impact on the game. Lets hope he has another outstanding game.
Hipwood: Lets not forget that Hipwood is the 4th youngest 17 year old in the squad...born in mid September, 97. Height listed at 200cms but grown 1 or 2 cms since last measured and only 82kg's. Once his body stops growing upwards and he can put on some bulk, there is huge opportunity for this boy. Playing all over the place at the moment...CHB, CHF, FB, Ruck. Yet to see another player in the competition with his size that can move & read the play they way he does. Could be anything at age 21-22.
Wagner: Explosive speed & kicking at full pace excellent. The past TAC games this year he has been outstanding & delivered again on Saturday. Bit different to Keays in the fact he doesn't get the same amount of possessions but (in my opinion) does a little bit more with each one when he gets the ball. I would expect him to play another solid game against Tasi on Saturday which should set him up as a wanted player in this years draft.
William: Has all the skills and pace needed to play at the highest level. His game on Saturday was a good one but, in several situations when he needed to work hard, dropped away and let others do his work. This to me is his biggest area to improve. If he can lift his work rate, look out!!!
Buzza: Kudos for his game on Saturday. 5 goals in any game is a good effort. Marked well, kicked straight & was good at ground level in 2-3 situations. In saying this, his NT opponent had an obvious height dis-advantage with no other options for NT to use. Looking at the Tasi backline, they will have someone who will definitely match him for size & weight. Don't forget that Buzza turned 19 back in March this year which gives him a distinct advantage physically. Look forward to seeing him play this Saturday which will give us a better indication of how good he is.
Allison: What's not to like about this boy? Cant wait to see him play in next years carnival. Speed, agility, great kick, ferocious at the ball, tall, good hands & an under ager!!! Brisbane must be salivating watching him play at the moment. What more can you say at this stage? Shhhhhh....
Budarick: Hard & tuff at the ball. When you need someone to win a hard ball, he will always be there. Reminds me of the "in & under" tough nuts of old days. (Wallace, Williams, Burns) Also pretty dangerous around the goals. Look out for him next game because he will relish the chance to play a hard & fast paced game. Liked his game a lot on Saturday.
One more worth a mention
Dennis: On the stats sheet, Chol had more hitouts but what the stats don't tell you is the quality of Dennis's center bounce contests. Almost every time he was able to tap the ball to a maroon jersey unlike Chols contests. Dennis has got to be one of the better tap ruckman going around however his basic kicking skills do let him down around the ground. He has a big engine & is not scared to do the hard work up & down the ground which I believe Chol doesn't do. Someone concentrate on improving his kicking & he can be a dominating ruckman for the future.

Yeah I have a feeling that QClash 10 will decide the wooden spoon.

It will be interesting to see who the Lions will choose to pick out of the academy players. There might be some possible over-hyping on our part as fans but do we still have to nominate the academy players we want or do we go to draft night and wait for the other teams to live-bid and then just match if we want.

We can't have them all, some might not make the grade anyway but you would think that Keays, Wagner and most probably Hipwood would be on our radar and if Buzza keeps up his form them that will make things interesting.

It seems ridiculous because pick 1 isn't really something any club wants but we have been at the bottom for a fair few years now so having the opportunity to have our pick of the top few players of the draft does sound good.

Quigley Is Reueben William short? He looked around that 187 - 189cm mark to me. Early days but he reminded me a bit of Yeo's playing style when we he was with us.

Wow. I was way off. Still like the way he plays but two extra inches would be nice.

Yup, think you could be correct.

TBH doesn't bother me now if this is so either way at this point, so long as we get the players we need from the draft/trade period to help ensure some future success....

This will go a long way further in shaping our future than winning a few meaningless games at the end of the season (like we have done the last few years) to drag ourselves up to say 12th-14th would (even it it's not what the club or the supporters might really want), I think we will be better off in the long term...

We all know finishing last doesn't mean that in a few years, you might not be premiers....

Long legs and arms. I was gonna say he reminded me of Harry O but was worried someone would call me racist.

Josh Schache wow, yes please, country boy so go home factor much less a risk. Are we a chance to get him?

Lose to Suns and we can have whomever we want.

It would be interesting if we did finish last to see who the club would go for out of Weitering and Schache(Not saying they are the only two in the running it is still way to early but this is a hypothetical).

With our desperation for a key forward for so long it would be hard to pass on Schache but Weitering looks like such a "sure thing" which has to be very appealing as a recruiter. You have to remember that Jarryd Roughead was a key defender as a junior and he was considered a "sure thing" and look how his career has turned out(As a key forward ironically). Quality KPP's are hard to come by and I would rather the club selected Weitering over Schache if they considered him the better prospect despite our need for a key forward.

Wouldn't it be great as a silver lining if we did finish last and we were to lose the following players if the combination of Leuy and Adcock leaving netted us pick 2 as compensation and we got both Weitering and Schache(Not going to happen just a bit of a tongue in cheek scenario. Plus I would be devastated if Jed were to leave!).

I know this a classic "I heard from a mate of a mate" scenario but I did hear a rumor a couple of weeks ago that Jed was none too pleased with losing the captaincy this year and is a near cert to request a trade at the end of the season.

Awaits "sauce" Gifs

Weitering does come with a side serving of Liam Pickering though. I think we'll be cautious having him as the manager of another one of our prized recruits.
