Yes it's amazing how tragedies early in life can link to an internal drive. The obvious connection with the Lions through his dad and he fits our needs is hard to overlook if he is available. I wonder if we get Dixon will things change our pick.

I think this is what everything will hinge on just within regards to list management, however in saying that Hipwood is starting to look likely as someone who can play back and I believe that he and Andrews might also be able to push into the ruck and be that modern mobile ruck that is starting to be a focus for teams. I do have dreams though of getting Weitering, Schache and also Collins and they do say dreams do come true!

"I think that'd be pretty cool if I ended up at Brisbane. I could go back to where dad was and finish off what he did there," Schache said.

I know there are a vast array of considerations for the recruiting team when looking at list management and building for the future. However, the last line of the article IMO should definitely be a pretty big plus for getting Schache. 'Captain Obvious' says we could ill afford to lose more high draft picks down the track and comments like that make me feel allot better about the selection long term (in addition hes obviously a highly rated young key).

Very interested to see how we use our first pick later this year!

Francis and Schache are really pulling on the feel strings of us Lions' supporters. As someone who confesses to being sentimental it's going to be hard if we have to choose between them.

At least we'll be confident knowing they want to be here.

Don't really care at this point if we end up with the spoon, so long as we get Schache....

I could be wrong but I thought it looked like Schache was a bit thin across the shoulders sort of like Taberner from Freo. Might hurt him in 1 on 1 contests against bigger bodies.

Close is the opposite, yet because he has skinny legs he doesn't have a lower centre of gravity and power to plant himself in a 1v1 contest. If I had to pick between the two I'd take the Schache build. A lot more power can be built by having a more developed lower body and core group.

I can't see us now winning the spoon. Nor can I see us passing up on josh. Think we learnt last year with mccartin goin number 1 that key forwards are always going to be taken higher than anyone else.

Maybe if we dont win for the rest of the year we can get a PP and get both...
Pfft... keep playing with the clay.

Like the sound of this kid, looks a very good size to.

Its looking like us , carlton and gc as the front runners for the spoon. Cant see GC taking another forward with Lynch, Day and wright still yet to play so they may look at getting a weitering type as the big defender.

Carlton would appear most likley in competition with us for schache. As Henderson is all they got and if he goes will be crying out for a forward target.

GC - Blues play this weekend which means either carlton will pull 1 game clear of us or we will be tied with GC and carlton and that will put us to bottom on percentage. Its terrible that its almost at the point where we need to really have 1 bad year to get the target we want , as its been suggested we seems to come home with a bit of a wet sail which prevents us from getting the real high end talent in those first couple of pick.

I could see the lions if they finished 2nd or 3rd last maybe offering that pick up and say the aish pick once we know what it is for the number 1 pick although very few clubs have been reluctant to do that. GC may consider that as they know Brisbane's dream of securing a key forward although if DIxon comes to us and the trade becomes a bit unsavouray doubt they will want to do any of us any favors.

Lions next 3 games are adelaide, fremantle, sydney i would say we will not win any of those and be bottom on ladder at round 16. The games which are going to shape our season is Melbourne Game, Carlton at Gabba, GC at Gabba if we lose 2 of those i think you woudl suggest we are a chance of a top 2 pick especially with GC getting Ablett back and a host of senior players and carlton potentially jagging a few more games.

Thoughts please ?

Irrespective of the draft rewards, losing games is never a good thing. I hope we beat Gold Coast and Carlton. The real prospect of coming last is completely demoralising.

If Aish were to gain us (say) pick 10 in the draft and we had pick 3, I'd be inclined to keep those two picks rather than look to upgrade to pick 1. If we got something more like pick 20 for Aish, then it becomes more attractive to do a pick upgrade trade but probably less likely that the side with the number 1 pick does the deal.

I think we'll beat Carlton at home but lose the rest of the games and we'll end up in 17th with probably the Gold Coast last and Carlton 16th after Carlton beat the Gold Coast this weekend.

Anybody who has an emotional investment at the Lions should be at the club imo. No go home factor, and imagine a Schache/Freeman/Mcstay 3 pronged attack.

Did you mean Dixon/McStay/Schache 3 pronged attack? ;)

As long as there is no more significant injuries in the next 2 weeks (our luck has to change eventually), we should have Merrett and Rockliff back in the team to face Melbourne at the G. Rockliff, Hanley and Beams all in the same team suddenly makes us look a lot better on paper. I wouldn't be surprised to see us beat one team that nobody gives us a chance of beating once we're at full strength in the midfield.

I'd rather us win the matches we should be 50/50 in and end up with pick 2 or 3 than see some questionable changing of players positions forcing us to lose. We need everyone in the team to want to win no matter what, we're going to get a good player with our first pick regardless. It has taken Melbourne 5 years to recover from what happened. I don't want to see the lions stuck at the bottom of the ladder for another 5 years.

It's somewhat comforting to think that the top 3 prospects in this years draft all have a connection to the Lions with Schache's late father having played for the Bears, Francis' late brother having been a massive Lions fan and Weitering having trained with the club in the last pre season.

Yeah can't see us not winning 3 -5 more games. We'll end up with bloody pick 8 again
We should have really bottomed out TBH if it wasn't for Vossy trying to protect his job and play the older blokes instead of looking towards the future(most would have done the same). For the past few years the late wins gave everyone a false hope that next year we will finally start to get on the up side of a rebuild only for it to be shattered within the first 8 weeks of the following season. Hopefully this will be our lowest of the low year and we get manage to get at least 2 picks within the top 10 (1+2 please?). Draft Schache and Weitering and we will have our spine set for 10 years.

Totally agree its never a good thing to finish the bottom couple especially with all the expectations we had at start of the year. But as pointed out finishing or ending up with pick 4-8 will get us a quality mid but thats what our team needs we need a key forward with talent and that looks to be in the top 3 picks. Given that all 3 players have some affiliation with Brisbane and are key position it would seem 1 of weitering, francis or schache will be at lions. If we pick up Dixon and have say scache and another year development in mcstay our forward line already looks more potent and more confidence to kick direct. Add to this another year of development into the young kids, and christensen getting a full pre seaosn under his belt you would hope we would be a lot more competitive.
