Nice comparison.
Sorry if this has been mentioned in this thread but does anyone know if we can draft Allison this year or have to wait till next?

Next year ..(D.O.B. 16/4/98)

For those keen followers; how do Chol and Dennis compare to Archie as an 18 year old?

Chol, probably a bit ahead.
Dennis is streets and streets ahead. I think Archie's time is unfortunately up at Brisbane and Dennis's is about to begin.

That is what he is listed at and I wouldn't mind betting he is a little taller than that now. He is 17 and will fill out.

Yeah, Heights were updated about a month ago. So it is possible he may have grown a cm or two. He'll certainly fill out a bit. Pretty excited about him and couple of the other underages.

After today's performance Twomey has said that Hipwood is a likely top 20 pick and you can throw Keays in there as well. A lot of water to go under the bridge yet but we might have to trade out or let Luey go without getting a FA so it doesn't effect next years draft too much. Kind of a good problem to have actually.

I think Weller deserves a mention for today's effort. I had him as my second best on ground for Qld. Really cracked in. Got his hands on the ball first a lot and created opportunities with his physical pressure. His tackling was great and his clearance work is improving. When he is moving is strong through the core and his fend is strong and unexpected for those who have grown up with AFL. He is still scrappy with his disposals but there is quite a bit to work with there.

PS - probably third best now that I think about it. Hipwood and Allison ahead of him.

Yeah, very good problem to have. Fascinating to see how the new points system works out for us if both Keays and Hipwood are rated top 20 range. Our 2nd pick with academy discount would get one you would think.
Getting the other might take our 3rd and 4th pick perhaps to get enough points. Wouldn't imagine the club would want to go into deficit for next year though

Hipwood a likely top 20 pick is something I personally can't bring myself to agree with at this stage. Nothing against him, but I'd just be very surprised if he went that early. I'd imagine him going anywhere after 30. Clubs may bid to force our hand though.
Yeah same here, he would need to dominate for the remainder of the season to push that high IMO

I didn't get to see Andrews last year as much as Hipwood this year but from what I did see he was in front I reckon at the same stage and he was bid late second round if I remember correctly. Wouldn't be surprised to see Adelaide to it to us again after they put their hand of for Freeman the year before as well.

Hipwood should be in the same bracket as Andrews. Not quite as far back as Hammelman was seen to be but high enough that we'll need a draft pick. Maybe higher than the 61 we paid for Andrews though.

It SHOULD go:

Scharede (Sandstorm)
Keays
Hipwood
Wagner
Dennis

Rookies

Buzza
Chol
Other
Other

How exactly does it work again? Our first pick probably top 3 so that's obviously going to be used on a scache, weitering, francis type. Second round pick after say compo picks and trades used etc could be early 20s so if we want keyes and hipwood whats our chances of getting both presuming some clubs bid for either one of them with second round pick can we get both? I think if we could get 2 high quality queenslanders with no go home factor thats smart move does that mean our 4th pick would be way down or a deficit for next year ? To get Dixon you would think we need to give gc something in 15-20 range so would get that from aish if burger goes can we not use that on another players like a sucking or does that not become vital to land bith keayes and hipwood. Also whats this Allison guy like ? Better then keayes at same age etc or is it bit hard to judge in second tier comp

All depends on the pick they are bid on...with the draft a little weak on for talent; 15 - 25 range for both is a possibility.

Won't matter too much, as after 12 or so picks; the point system is skewed a lot less.

For example, for a bid at pick 20 (912 pts), we may use a 3rd, 4th or 5th rounder this year and cop the deficit next year. Or we may see Allison, Rolls and co. as better in the long term and pay for the picks up front this year.

That being said, a bid at 20; with the Lions using a 3rd rounder at 38 instead, would be take us into a minus of 447pts...about the equivalent of moving from pick 4 to 7 next season or from pick 25 to 45 if we're talking second round.

It certainly will make draft night a whole lot more interesting

Yeah, I hope they have a live chart of picks and points so that fans can follow it a bit easier!

We could just trade for another 2nd round pick and use that and still have our later picks for Williams and Wagner
