Any potential Aish to Dixon trade (3rd party involved) won't leave much wiggle room at all. Aishs maximum return won't be too far off GCS lower acceptance, won't take much to offset the balance and we will need to sweeten the deal.

Totally ignoring any PSD move/leverage
If Dixon does nominate us and we want to keep our First pick, maybe a scenario like
Brisbane gain : Dixon, GCS 3rd and 4th round picks
GCS gain : Aish (mid teen pick from 3rd party), 2nd rounder

We'd lose out on around 300 nomination points by losing our 2nd rounder. GC would have a top 3, mid teen and 3 early 2nd rounders ( would be in the strongest position to upgrade to GWS first round, if they choose to trade for points.)

We would be left short on assets for the academy player thou, but I think this is the reason why Leuenberger hasn't been signed yet.

Are the Gold Coast in a position with their potential academy options to be looking at the points values etc like we are or is it more of a lean year for them?

Still can't see us getting Schache. I reckon we will get a few more wins with the guys coming back and be ahead of Carlton and Gold Coast. Both of them would take Schache.
I think that's quite possible, but would have the 3 clubs pretty even. I think all of the Lions, Suns and Blues could play some decent enough footy to finish on 5-6 wins each, and percentage being the difference between 2 of us. I don't think there'll be a clear spoon 'winner' until the end of round 23.

Schache and Weitering selected to line up on each other in tomorrow's TAC Cup game - Stingrays vs Bushrangers. Hope to be there and for those interested will post some comments and a pic or two after the game. 11 degrees and rain/hail forecast!

I'll be there. I won't be surprised if Schache has a bit of a quiet one, weather conditions won't be ideal for a tall forward. Lot's of scouts attending tomorrows game.

Only going by what I've seen on here, but seems a lean year for their academy. Haven't really read anyone talking up any Of their prospects.

Is there anywhere to stream the game from.

For a variety of reasons, I think we've all fallen in love with the idea of getting Schache and pick #1 would guarantee that for us. But if being a key forward is what elevates him above the next best players and we have a lesser need for a key forward if we get Dixon, then I don't see why a slight pick downgrade is so awful.

I think we need to keep an open mind on the Dixon trade as what we get for Aish is still a big unknown.

For me at least, it's not even about Schache being a key forward; I happen to think we really need a Weitering style player and wouldn't blink if we picked him instead.

But a top five pick gives you a lot of options. It's a big thing to give up.

Giving up an early pick for a sure thing like Dayne Beams is one thing, but giving one up or downgrading one for a mercurial, injury-prone player like Dixon is another.

We're keen on Dixon because there's a good chance he will dramatically improve our forwardline. But there's also a good chance he'll never be more than a guy who plays the odd good game and otherwise goes missing a lot. There's also a good chance he'll never get over his injury problems.

Dixon has played 58 of a possible 101 games in his career to date. He probably makes a significant difference about half the time he plays. We'd be hoping those proportions improve but there's no guarantee.

So we'll need to be cultivating other options. We shouldn't recruit him if it means we have to make disproportionately greater sacrifices elsewhere. Every trade has to fit into a long-term strategy in some way.

During the week I think how great it would be if we ended up pick 1 and got Schache, as soon as the first ball is bounced in our game I couldn't give a shit about us having pick 1, I want us to win.

Whatever happens at the end of the year you can see how much effort the boys are putting in. If we get pick 1, so be it, just want to see us staying in the contest for as long as we can and getting some confidence in the group.

It is seriously weird how little they get out of what on paper seems like a generous academy zone. There must be some problems with their set up.

It shows that just getting the concessions isn't enough. You have to work to get the most out of them.

I'm the same. I really want Schache, but I also want us to win every single remaining game for the year. It's a predicament lol.

I think the Gold Goast zone is made up of the flakey Gold Coast area and northern and inner Queensland of which most don't know and don't care about AFL (Cairns being the exception). I think we have been given a better market to control. Plus they are just trying to establish themselves in the Gold Coast let alone those other areas.

Flakey Gold Coast area? Must have changed since I was a kid. Dominated carnivals as we were made up of expat Victorians.

Our future is looking good, especially when you look at our recruiting over the past two years.
There is no doubt that the club is going to land a 'big fish' this year, whether its Dixon or someone else - it was always the clubs plan to land A Graders this year (Beams was a bonus last year).
This year's trade/draft period is going to be interesting to say the least.
I believe for us, we need to acquire a big recruit, in the Dixon mold and also recruit one of Schache, Weitering or Francis. Keays and Hipwood and other academy players would be the bonus. If the club believes that Keays and Hipwood are a must then we will need to trade for a pick or two in the 20-30 range.

Would you prefer their zone or ours?

Traditionally their zone has been considered stronger. But I think it's probably fair to consider them even in the grand scheme of things - so it's probably a mix between development and luck that has seen us stronger.

To be fair, the Gold Coast's results this year probably add to an argument that they have a development problem in general because the talent on their list isn't yet coming on as any reasonable forecast would have projected.

In hindsight, losing every NEAFL game in 2014 was a bigger warning sign than we realised at the time.

Who picks the players to be on the Academy Lists. Solely the clubs or does the AFL have an input. It may be that the Gold Coast scouts aren't much chop.

For those counting their chickens re getting both Hipwood & Keays .... beware.

In the Big Footy Phantom Draft Trial, Hipwood was just selected at Pick 14.

Using that selection as an example, we would need to have traded in picks (multiple - qty/value dependent on how low the next Academy Nomination falls - which you would expect to be Keays) in order to avoid missing participation in the 2016 Bidding Process (if the next selection is matched)...... i.e. no claim to Allison & others as Academy Nominations next year.

Without additional picks coming in, the next selection that we could match and avoid the 2016 issue would be 4th Round and beyond. And in this Mock scenario that won't be Keays.

(Note: 2nd & 3rd Rnd picks would be surrendered to move to 14 to take Hipwood, with two picks made available at the end of this Draft).

Come the real thing, it will be very difficult for Brisbane to take both Hipwood & Keays (without some magic applied in the Trade period), especially if we Trade in the likes of Dixon (and others), as has been mentioned.

14. Collingwood - Knightmare. He rates Hipwood very highly

Yeah great. No point worrying about him. He clearly is rating the academy kids a lot higher than most because he wants to be in Eddie's pants.
