When do we find out that the afl give Carlton pick 1 and 2 ?

End of the free agency period, which is the end of the first week of the trade period. So mid October or thereabouts.

Yep and be happy doing so. But 2 of them are contracted (Redden and Mayes) so it doesn't mean that they didn't necessarily want to leave

I wanted to quit my job but due to work conditions changing I opted to stay and now love my role. Wanting to leave doesn't necessarily mean they WILL leave. No doubt we've all been unhappy in our jobs, especially at 21/22 like Mayes, but with his much deserved holiday (end of season) and the continuous work for improvement around the workplace (Brisbane Lions) no doubt he will come back refreshed and raring to go.

I would be horribly disappointed if he truly jumps the gun and forces our hand to trade him this year. Imo it goes against his character and he would regret it.

I'd rather we trade pick 3 for a key forward I'd be looking at Kennedy or Lynch then draft another SA kid that will want to leave in 2 years
Lynch and Kennedy aren't getting traded for anything.

Again I don't feel that he is the power forward we are lacking. I'd want him but not with pick 3.

Oh yeah man I'm the same. Imo not worth trying to give the farm for a Lynch or Kennedy. Best off drafting and developing. Darling for Redden + next year's second round draft pick would be well worth it.

Anywho back on topic, to draft one of Schache, Weitering or Francis will be great!

West Coast would never go for it anyway. Sounds like Francis could be even better than Darling anyway. I don't see us making any big trades this year.

That win yesterday i think has changed the landscape for the decisions that will be made by the AFL. Saying that the AFL appear to make it up as it goes anyway.

If the lions got spoon and had pick 1 then i feel we would of been given band 1 compo for burger going ( much the same way as melbourne got for frawley ) but with brisbane now 2nd you would think that might change now. Surely the AFL are aware that shcache and weitering are the best 2 players in the draft and brisbane would be desperate for 1 of them , it would seem unfair that Carlton who played in finals only a couple of seasons ago would then get pick 2 based on the fact that Melbourne got the frawley compo which as most people have acknowedged was dressed up as a priority pick. Problem is when you have the Melbourne media pumping up the tyres of Carlton all the time and not giving a rats about Brisbane then they can be quite influential.

Scenarios are this

- Free agency tier 1 compo ( Both Carlton and Lions - Blues Pick 1 & 2 and lions 3 & 4 ) that seems to favour carlton obviously a lot more then brisbane so with all the other issues i cant see that happening .

Kruezer stays and lions get pick 2 and 3 ( schache and francis )

-Lions and carlton get end of teir 1 comp for both ( which still gives them each of either schache and wetering ) i think most likley , AFL may also given another prority pick to lions end of round 1 if they are actually serious about lions wanting to succeed and especially with all the possible departure of aish etc. Perhaps they could give us an end of round compo pick for next year instead of this year.

For those getting anxious about whether we'll get pick 2 or 3...all I can say is if we end up with one of Schache/Weitering/Francis they'll prove to be a great recruit. They've all shown some elite traits but who knows how they'll compare in 10 years time. Don't get too worked up.

If Carlton got 1 and 2 and we got 3 and 4(Highly unlikely to happen on both counts) it could be a bit of a blessing in disguise. We would most likely end up with Francis and Curnow. Two Stringer types:thumbsu:

If Schack attack is picked, I want Francis. Man he looks exciting and I feel Weitering, although will be elite, is not as big a need for us than a forward/big bodied elite mid like Schache and Francis.

Regardless who ******* cares? We will draft one of the best youngsters of the year and do all we can to make them into a player we need. How exciting is that?

I believe we are a long, long way past another youth exodus, so bring on the best available!
FRANCIS !

For RFA it's actually within 24hrs of the offer being accepted now so that can factor into the matching decision.

Just wondering, what would everyone prefer: Picks 3 & 4 but are unable to get Schache or Pick 2 (Schache) alone?

3 & 4 for mine. No question.

Pick 3&4 by a long stretch for me. Worst case scenario you end up with one gun and one quality player. Brute key forwards aren't the only way to win premierships (look at Geelong and you could argue the new version of Hawthorn). Getting your hands on the ball and moving it well are far more valuable IMO and I'm not convinced we don't already have the long term answer internally with Freeman and one of Andrews, McStay, Close or soon to be Hipwood.

Add that to the fact that Francis would be available and he looks to be a genuine star who has a strong emotional connection to the club (mitigating any flight risk) and to me it's a no brainer.

I'd also suggest if we got 3 and 4 and offered that to Carlton for Pick 2 they'd jump at it quicker than than you can spell tank which suggests it's clearly more valuable.

I think for anyone putting every ounce of their hopes & dreams on Schache, it's worth considering that his words were "I think that'd be pretty cool if I ended up at Brisbane. I could go back to where dad was and finish off what he did there,".
He's still a kid and like any draftee going to any club, their own hopes, dreams, aspirations and expectations can change with maturity. No player is a guaranteed lock for the next 10 years. There is plenty of other talent, should we miss out. All we can do is develop and nurture whoever we get, the same as any other year.
He does fit a particular need, and has openly invited the opportunity to come north, but don't be slitting your wrists if it doesn't eventuate.
