Still some pretty handy players available in the 20's and onwards, every year the draft gets labelled as shallow. I'd be disappointed if we knocked back a couple of early second rounders for Aish.
Yep - Clayton Oliver is someone I am very keen to get to the club and possibly the second McKay boy (Ben I think)

Video of Chol's leap posted on the clubs instagram for those who want to see it. He'll be with us next year, plenty of clubs interested in him though.

The more the club focuses on Chol the more I'm thinking we will be taking him if he gets bid on.

Some people were saying he's a rookie chance, but with the exposure of the Allies game and the Lions pumping him up, I think he won't make it to the Rookie Draft and we will use a late pick on him.

Looks good, just needs a few years in the gym.

Is there a chance that you will pick up Francis with pick 2? Or is it definitely Schache, assuming that Carlton pick up Weitering at number 1?

2011, from memory, was the last time the draft was really considered weak.

And whilst even the Top 25 was decidedly average, with only Wingard and possibly Patton considered stars;
a few decent players went later on:

30. Yeo
31. J. Merrett
33. B. Hill
37. Newnes
45. Ah Chee
48. J. Murdoch
57. T. Dickson
58. L. Neale
64. Ellis-Yolmen

Agree outside of our academy players and Schache Oliver, the second McKay (Ben) and Hardwick would be my picks.

I actually think Hardwick is quite over rated on the draft boards. For mine, he has very much a Tim Membrey feel about him, a KPF that is 6-7cms too short to play the role at AFL level and isn't mobile/fit enough to be that medium sized forward. I don't think he projects well at AFL

Would prefer us look at Ryan Burton. Very much hoping he slides, his work in last years championships was excellent. He's 191cm, strong overhead and can be elusive. it has been our modus operandi in recent years to pick up players who have had injury troubles in their final year of under age football (Close, Robertson, McGrath each from last 3 drafts)and I hope he is one who we are looking at/slides to us.

Jesus Chol you're supposed to test badly so we can get you on a lower bid have you even been paying attention?
Testing like a bloke who hasn't been guaranteed anything.

I am really relieved we finished with pick 2. If we had pick 1, Weitering would be really starting to stress us out about now with his talent vs the Go Home Pickering factor.

Pick 2 allows us to take Schache (who is a really good fit position and attitude wise) without having to play the "what if?" game.

Had the exact same thought this morning. It would've been a case of 'best available' vs. someone who 'wants to be at the club' and fits our needs.

I reckon we would go with Francis if Schache was taken with pick 1. The Dickering factor particularly after our no trade stance would be too much.

This will be my last post here, but something I think the Lions should do when they are drafting players is look at how many junior clubs a kid has played for and if they have moved the reason behind that. As my time in local football I have noticed the juniors who have played at multiple clubs are more likely to leave the club if they start to find it tough to get a game In the 19s/seniors. Peoples values are formed before they are 18 and you want to find loyal kids who put the club first

Interesting - though you'd think that those in charge would be aware of this

Fair point! I think we have been looking into these types of factors more over the last couple of years. Generally country boys are far more resilient and capable of coping and bonding as they've done this in their general life situations. Metro boys are very self centred and pampered in general and have a lot made of them by their clubs due to the change club factor you discussed!
