Hypothetical Worst Case for Hipwood going around Pick 10 - Our Picks: 2, 21, 22, 39

^^^Assumes:
*Leuenberger Band 3 Compo
*Redden for Pick #17
*Pick #57 for Jansen
*Nothing for Aish
*Pick 17 traded to Carlton for Bell/Casboult (could be Pick 21 or 22, but this is just a worst realistic case scenario here)

How it plays out:
*Pick #2 (Schache)
*Hipwood @ 10 (Lose Pick #21, Pick #22 moved back to Pick #31)
*Keays @ 13 (Lose Pick #31, Pick #39 moved back to Pick #66)
*Pick #66 (Discount means we can match any bid for Chol after Pick #50 without going into deficit)
*And obviously any bid after Pick 56ish means we take the player at the very end of the draft

Still get Hipwood and Keays. But may go into a slight deficit with Chol possibly depending on where he gets a bid from and no other decent picks are used on other talent apart from Schache

Time for some good news!

Schache would welcome Brisbane move

GUN teenager Josh Schache says he is happy to come to Brisbane if drafted by the Lions.

Victorian country star Schache has read with interest that 2013 top ten draft pick James Aish has asked the Lions to find a trade with Collingwood during the player exchange period that begins on Monday, but says he is not deterred that some players want out.

The hulking forward is widely tipped to go number one or two in this year’s draft and is Brisbane’s preferred choice.

The Lions will be hoping Carlton take Jacob Weitering at number one, leaving Schache, the son of former Brisbane Bear Laurence Schache, free for them to select with pick two.

Schache spent the past few days at the draft combine but did not do the testing because of an injury.

He was interviewed by several clubs and says he is not certain where he will end up.

v1

He has read the media linking him to the Lions and says he would love to represent the club his dad played 29 games for in the early 1990s.

“I would be happy to go to Brisbane, it is my dream to be an AFL player and I will go anywhere to achieve that,’’ he said.

“You can’t avoid the speculation, so I am aware of it and excited by the thought of going there, but at the same time anything can happen and you have to be prepared.

“I am just trying to put my best foot forward with every club that speaks to me.’’

If he does get to Brisbane he is likely to be joined by Queensland Under 18s captain Ben Keays, who along with Eric Hipwood, are academy graduates the Lions are determined to draft

“When I am interviewed by clubs I tell them about my links with the Lions but at the same time I explain that I will happily go to whoever selects me,’’ Keays said.

“It is my dream to play for the Lions and to help them get back up the ladder but if that doesn’t happen I’ll be doing my best for whatever club I go to.

“I want to be an AFL footballer and that is part of the game.’’

Brisbane will not know what draft picks they will hold until after compensation for Matthew Leuenberger is finalised and deals are done for Aish and Jack Redden.

The Lions have added Hawks speedster Jed Anderson to a list of players they are interested in.

Hawthorn have given Anderson permission to talk to clubs.

The Suns remain interested in Collingwood’s Paul Seedsman and Melbourne high flyer Jeremy Howe.

However North Melbourne has made a significant bid to lure Howe to Arden Street.

Howe is expected to make a decision by the middle of this week.

"It is my dream to play for the Lions and to help them get back up the ladder"

I just wet myself a little. :D:D

edit: Keays not Schache lol.

Seems to me like he was quick to emphasise he would be happy to join any club.

Judging from those quotes alone, Benny Keays seemed the more passionate Lion of the two, however, there is a (slight) chance of Schache going elsewhere so i think he doesnt want to scare other clubs off.

Overall, It's the usual pre-draft diplomacy from the two boys and I dont have any reason to assume Schache won't enjoy playing for us.

Interesting that Weitering said he "hasn't spoken to Carlton all that much". Also stated that only 2 clubs came for a house visit. They were Brisbane and Essendon. Carlton might be seriously weighing up do we take Schache or Weitering.

I'm worried about Blues TBH... with his time at GWS SOS did take a hell of a lot of tall forwards and seemed to love them a lot. Didn't draft many KPDs at all really. But Weitering is so far ahead of Schache its not even funny and we will gladly take him with pick 2 in the draft.

Plus Calrton are making a play for Tomlinson and Plowman. They are likely to be defenders for them long term. Trading out Casboult would leave their KPF stock very thin. The signs are worrying, hopefully Schache tells them to bugger off.

exactly, we should have a good idea about what he is like, and whether he does want to committ to the club long term and what type of person he is

and if he we think he isnt our type of player, we will take Francis, who could end up being the best player in the draft

Whilst they won't actually go that high, hopefully we can get Jansen very cheap. Those 200ish points for a dicky little pick could come in handy in matching a bid for Chol later on (without going into deficit)

Hopefully,Jansen PSD.We need all the points we can get.
