Haha, would be amazing if the draft started with Carlton drafting Weideman instead of Weitering due to autocorrect.
Or Wayne Weideman

I hope Schwabby doesn't have fat fingers. I hope they don't use predictive text.

"How the hell did we end up with this Schumpton guy at pick 2!?"

Legitimately laughed hard!

"Where's the any key?"

Am I right in thinking, as more northern state teams with academies get early picks, the more it suits us, as they are unlikely to bid on our players and it may also see Hipwood & Keays get later bids, thus costing less points?

Yep, that makes some sense. Although in theory the Swans don't know yet that St Kilda will offer pick 6 for Mills, so what if they offered pick 15 (or whatever) for Hipwood?

AFL Draft 2015: Top prospect Josh Schache says he’d be happy to join Brisbane Lions

GUN teenager Josh Schache says he is happy to come to Brisbane if drafted by the Lions.

Victorian country star Schache has read with interest that 2013 top ten draft pick James Aish has asked the Lions to find a trade with Collingwood during the player exchange period that begins on Monday, but says he is not deterred that some players want out.

The hulking forward is widely tipped to go number one or two in this year’s draft and is Brisbane’s preferred choice.

The Lions will be hoping Carlton take Jacob Weitering at number one, leaving Schache, the son of former Brisbane Bear Laurence Schache, free for them to select with pick two.

Schache spent the past few days at the draft combine but did not do the testing because of an injury.

He was interviewed by several clubs and says he is not certain where he will end up.

O

He has read the media linking him to the Lions and says he would love to represent the club his dad played 29 games for in the early 1990s.

“I would be happy to go to Brisbane, it is my dream to be an AFL player and I will go anywhere to achieve that,’’ he said.

“You can’t avoid the speculation, so I am aware of it and excited by the thought of going there, but at the same time anything can happen and you have to be prepared.

“I am just trying to put my best foot forward with every club that speaks to me.’’

If he does get to Brisbane he is likely to be joined by Queensland Under 18s captain Ben Keays, who along with Eric Hipwood, are academy graduates the Lions are determined to draft

“When I am interviewed by clubs I tell them about my links with the Lions but at the same time I explain that I will happily go to whoever selects me,’’ Keays said.

“It is my dream to play for the Lions and to help them get back up the ladder but if that doesn’t happen I’ll be doing my best for whatever club I go to.

“I want to be an AFL footballer and that is part of the game.’’

Brisbane will not know what draft picks they will hold until after compensation for Matthew Leuenberger is finalised and deals are done for Aish and Jack Redden.

The Lions have added Hawks speedster Jed Anderson to a list of players they are interested in.

Hawthorn have given Anderson permission to talk to clubs.

The Suns remain interested in Collingwood’s Paul Seedsman and Melbourne high flyer Jeremy Howe.

However North Melbourne has made a significant bid to lure Howe to Arden Street.

Howe is expected to make a decision by the middle of this week.

That is rather interesting. I always thought Keays plays with reasonably good small area pace. It may be he is a bit like Sidebottom who I recall tested terribly in the pace dept but does alright in this area in game situations without ever being accused of being pacey.

Sidebottom ran a 3.25s in the 20m, and 8.53 in the agility run. Endurance wise - 14.5 beep, 10.32 min 3km.

Sorry if already mentioned but I just noticed there is a draft combine wrap on Fox footy tonight at 7.30 for those interested. Looks like it goes for an hour.

I'm sure it's probably been covered before but are the point values determined for each pick at the beginning of the draft, or the more academy/father sons that are selected pushing picks down the order does that reduce the point value of our pick to its new position in the draft?

The latter.

The latter.

So we could essentially be forced into a deficit if there are a large amount of father sons/academy kids picked in the first round

No, because the picks that are ultimately going to be used on bidding would be getting pushed back as well.

Ah, no wonder they need computers to do the live modelling because it is really difficult to conceptualise all the possible outcomes.

Apparently Keays had one of the slowest 20m times of any midfielder, with only Nick O'Kearney trailing him. Should bump him down the rankings a bit which is only beneficial for us.
I've never understood the need for a quick 20 metre time.

I'm thinking Voss, Black & Sam Mitchell wouldn't test that well either.

Voss would have before the leg break in my opinion.

in theory it's possible a we could move up the draft order for an academy or father-son-selection. If Sydney manage to trade in an additional late first round selection but then require this and their own first round pick to pay for Mills then one of their picks would slot in for the pick where Mills is taken and the second pick would slide down the draft order for the relative number of points. Brisbane's subsequent picks would move up the draft order by a pick.

You don't have to be explosively quick to be a great footballer, but gee it's pretty useful if you have it. Juddy's first 5 or 6 steps were his best weapon.
