You don't have to be explosively quick to be a great footballer, but gee it's pretty useful if you have it. Juddy's first 5 or 6 steps were his best weapon.

I thought his eye gouge and arm bar were up there as weapons too, myself.

Hey guys, I saw Hipwood on the Fox Footy Draft Combine wrap up tonight and they said he'll go very early to the Lions. Having done a quick Google search, I see that he's a mammoth 200cm.

Can you guys give me a quick run down on his background and playing style? I think I read he's a defender, so is he likely to fill out or will he stay a string bean style defender?

I love seeing home grown talent, so any info is appreciated!

200cm, agile, pacey, athletic. good overhead mark, good footskills (although occasionally goes for too much with his kicks). Definitely has a bit of X-factor About him. He has played forward and back and done well in both roles at U18 and NEAFL level. Was an average heigjt running player as a younger player but had a rapid growth spurt in the last few years.

Very skinny and plays more like a flanker but projects as a mobile KPP. More than likely a defender but could just as easily turn into a dangerous forward, or at least a swingman as he is a noted goal kicker. hopefully can add some size but it's hard to say. i would think he is less likely too bulk up than say Harris Andrews who some have likened him to

I hope Schwabby doesn't have fat fingers. I hope they don't use predictive text.

"How the hell did we end up with this Schumpton guy at pick 2!?"
I realised too late that the gag could have been so much better if I had of gone for Schumway. Undersized American import, likely to leave for the Cats as soon as he can.

He sprouted late so he's grown up playing like a tall flanker, and still moves like that. I've heard people argue that his field kicking hasn't calibrated to his extra height yet. Makes sense.

If the club trades for Casboult and Bell, what does that leave for Keays and Hipwood?

Pick 2 for Schache, obviously. But just say pick 17 is traded to Carlton for Casboult and Bell, will pick 21, 39, 57, 75, 93, and 111 be enough for the the other two?

Leunberger compo + whatever we get for Aish in there as well

Just so you know any pick after 73 has no value to it. The answer would be probably not with the other two, however add in a compo pick at 22 then probably.

DB and TW just said how funny would it be if Carlton took Schache instead of Weitering.

Haha.

Hah.

Ha...

Or he tells Carlton he wants to go there and then we will have Weitering and Schache in our side for 2018

I agree with them. It would be pretty funny if Carlton passed up the absolute consensus #1 player in the draft, a rare combination of gun footballer and athlete that oozes professionalism and leadership AND fits a position of need.

But they wont.

Anyway...

The start of it, he thinks, might actually have been the most encouraging, when he spent a week at the Brisbane Lions in January as part of the AFL Academy program.

He flew up on a Sunday by himself, stayed with Lions pair Sam Mayes and Marco Paparone, and at 7am the next morning was running a two-kilometre time trial in 30-degree heat.

He was so tired he barely used his mobile phone all week, but Weitering's stint at the Lions left him confident about what lies ahead.

""I did everything there – all the drills, all the weights and I was treated as another player. I absolutely loved it."

Hello Aaron Francis if that is the case.

Yeah, if we had to settle for the next Fyfe instead of the next Lloyd* - whatever would we do?

*but we won't have to.

Carlton shopping around Casboult is more of an indication of how they rate him and how he fits into their structure/gameplan rather than how interested they are in Schache.

Weitering will go pick one.
Schache will be a Lion come draft night.

This. Clearly Bolton is aiming for a forward setup that doesn't include a player of Casboult's type. We on the other hand have plenty of room for a hulking gorilla who can provide a contested marking option and take a quality defender while our young talls develop around him, as well as pinch hit in the ruck.

I am honestly feeling sorry for the people worried about Schache. We'll get him guys.
