As it stands, 17 & 21 will pretty much cover the academy kids. They are locked and loaded. If we take Bergs compo it is essentially a 3rd round pick. We won't get Bell and Casboult for that, but maybe Bell for one, Jansen for the other. Otherwise, we could always trade a future 3rd rounder as well if we really need to.

We are still not at a point where we NEED to trade Aish. The talk of us today being right into Walker i think shows we have conceded we don't have enough for Casboult. Which shows we still don't intend on trading Aish.

Looking at the draft order, I'm not sure that Hipwood gets a top 10 bid. Particularly if Sydney move up to take Mills. Gold Coast will have Port's pick 10 & GWS will have 7 (Collingwood) & 8. Think there's talent that will be available that trumps Hipwood at the moment. Probably early teens for him with Bulldogs most likely to bid.

Otherwise, I would expect teams to do what happened previously and place a bid to "keep academy clubs honest" & ensure that they get picked about where they would normally go in the draft.

Would be surprised if there is a bid for Wagner or Chol.

I would've thought Gold Coast having pick 10 is more reason to be worried. The opportunity to pick-up a talented Queenslander, with no risk of go home factor, would be hard to overlook.
Clubs with academy kids would be smart to not bid on other academy kids

How will we trade for Bell +/- Casboult then, without losing ability to match 2 early bids?

If we discount Casboult, we could trade pick 17 for Bell and an equivalent pick to maintain our points totals above what the club would consider likely bids to cost.

Then we need to ditch Aish for the compo points.

You need to ditch fear for chill.

What's the thoughts on Mabior Chol? Do we want him? I have been told he has had meetings with 2 clubs (North and can't remember the other one).
Probably with a late pick. And if he gets bid on after 55 we get him for free at the end of the draft really.

Worst case, we can go into debt next year as well. We don't NEED more points for Keays and Hipwood.
It does effect our draft position though - if we can't match av1st round bid our first pick will suffer.

However if we can match Keays and Hipwood, but go into a slight debt matching a third round bid for Chol or something (just an example) it's fine. Club would be prepared to take a small hit on next year's third rounder.

I don't know, it's easy to panic from how I see it.

We've got this laundry list of players who want to come to our team who'd be best 22, and we've got some awesome young kids coming through

If we trade Aish it gets us Astbury, Bell, Casboult and Bastinac. Without costing us our academy kids.

Seems a no brainer at this point.

I get sending a message but this seems to be to the detriment of our list.

A lot of talk today about Hawthorn successfully clustering their picks together so their core all peak at the same time. Makes me think, looking good for us in 5 years time if we can have a core of Andrews, Keays, Hipwood, Schache, could be the core of our side for our next tilt. Not to mention whoever comes good out of our current youngsters. Here's hoping we look back at this draft in 5 years time as a key moment for us.

We are 3 days into a two week trade period. The first part is always theatrical.

Seriously, do I need to post you some valium?

You're confident a trade will happen?

We don't have to trade Aish unless it's a "win-win". Leigh Matthews is past his time to be thinking like that... I just hope that the crew that actually deal with the list management don't listen to him... look at the shape he left our list when he was sacked.

Lol really? We were pushing for premierships (we rolled the dice) and got 3/4 premierships. No free agency in those days either.

Yep, provided Collingwood come to the party with a mutually fair deal. Absolutely no reason for us to be panicking on Day 3 of the trade period.

Leigh got sacked? ...I don't think that word means what you think it means.
