Delist ZOb and get both I reckon.

ZOB is a great reserves player who I think helps the development of a lot of the younger group who are playing there. He gives us first use of the ball, works hard and is there when his teammates need him.

He has shown he is capable of getting a stack of the ball at AFL level. If he puts in a hard preseason into improving his skills (like I hope Bell and half our team are doing) and improves in this area then he would be a very decent AFL player.

For me there are quite a few on our list who add a lot less than ZOB does and I would not be delisting him if the decision was mine.

Quigley normally I agree with you and really like your posts but the guy is a list clogger. He is a great NEAFl player but has shown nothing at AFL level.

ZOB is on the rookie list. I'm not sure Whitecross would agree to sign on to the rookie list when GWS has shown interest, and our academy player of choice might be bid on during the National Draft.

It'd probably have to be Bewick or Paine that are delisted.

Wasn't he upgraded?

I really really agree with you on this one Quigs, he's always performed well at AFL level when given the chance I thought.

There's about 3 players on our senior list I'd sooner see go.

Can't say I'd be on the WhiteX bandwagon myself. Much rather another academy type.
The player he was would be a solid pickup. Reliable flanker who used the ball well.
As to whether he's still any good after all the injuries he's had... no idea. Pace was never one of his strong suits, so that would be my no.1 concern. Passing on Astbury suggests we might be less likely to pick up players with significant injury issues just because they want to come here than we have been previously.

Have to disagree. He's looked out of his depth for mine. His last couple of appearances would've marked his card for sure if our reserves hadn't struggled so badly this season.

Didn't say it would necessarily be best for the team, as I can definitely see the reasoning behind Whitecross, but ultimately a mid/half back flanker with decent foot skills isn't as exciting as a 6 foot 6 Sudanese kid. :D
I'd still take Whitecross. The 6 foot 6 excitement machine should bide his time on the rookie list and see if he has the capability to make it. Majak Daw was picked up largely on the excitement factor but ultimately hasn't delivered much (a few decent highlights...).
I know nothing about Chol (or any prospective draftees), other than the fact he would be the good luck story of the draft. If he was just another kid from Ipswich would we still be as interested? I'm sure there's a great marketing component if he is successful but Whitecross can give more than that until Chol proves he can make it.

Hawthorn have had a whinge about the new points system already. Look for it to be changed next year just to **** us over moving forward. If any changes are made that make it near impossible for us to get our academy kids I'll stop following the sport.

Problem is if the club rates Chol but he doesn't make it through to the rookie draft especially given the shallow nature of this draft, and a few clubs with a lot of list spots but not many picks e.g. Geelong.

that's the balancing act of drafting and list management... Whitecross is 25 and could still be expected to give 4-5 years good service. We have a lot of young players who we need to give time to develop.
I guess we're in the fortunate position that we can always wait and see if Chol is nominated by another club in the ND. As long as we have a list spot available we can take him. If we take Chol in the ND then I hope it is 100% for his football potential/ability, and not based on what a possible marketing opportunity he could become.

The problem for non-academy clubs is the advent of future pick trading saves the northern clubs from any drastic changes next year. They won't completely overhaul because teams have already begun planning for next year's draft. The worst that can happen is a change to the value of points. They might look at overhauling the system for 2017

The problem for us is that in a few years time we won't be able to get our hands on the academy kids at all and will be crippled.

Looks like we are planning to have 4 senior list vacancies to the national draft. In Leppa's trade wrap video he mentions people cling up 3 u18 All Australians including 2 local boys (Schache, Hipwood, Keays) and "maybe" another academy player.

The more I see of Hipwood the more I reckon he probably has the most upside of any player in the draft. I reckon we are about to get something very special in Eric, he has Riewoldt/Franklin potential.
U r kidding right , have u watched his tapes. He misses open targets by foot a lot. Riewoldt was #1, buddy top 5, this guy is a 15-25 pick in a weak draft . I hope ur right but from what I have seen he will play a lot of neafl next couple of years.

Yep, watched tapes and seen him live. Thanks for your input, look forward to discussing this in 5 years time

Grant is the crack. That's why you can't see him when he turns side on.
