I'd have probably given Bewick the heave-ho too FWIW. Not sure his senior form has been much more impressive over the last 2 years.

Had the same thought. Probably the only thing that saves him is he has a few tricks that others don't.

Including the ability to be a run with player. We don't have enough pace generally to be delisting him at this stage.

I think Bewick is worth holding onto, at worst for depth, at best for his ability to have an impact running forward. He is also another player realistically pushing for selection which means that everyone has to perform well in the twos and make sure they take every chance when they get into the starting 22. That is a healthy thing.

Hopefully we see a more settled structure for some of our players. I think bewick has proven he can be very effective up forward and hopefully he is given some more time to develop up there. In a team with better midfield depth and a bit better forward delivery, I reckon he could be a good target in a Gunston like role.

He's more like a poor man's Notting. I think for the most part if you haven't developed fully at age 25 then odds on you won't. At times he can be very effective I'll grant you, but he goes missing way too much for too long.

Bewick adds value with depth. He doesnt start next year as best 22, but he would probably still be in a 30 man squad. You need to bat down to about 30 to have enough depth to cover injuries.

The one year contract and relatively modest expectations ("we look forward to (him having) a good season") say it all.

For instance, the Lions hold five straight selections from No.38-42, but they might only enter the draft with four open list spots.

The picks will remain so they can match early bids on academy pair Ben Keays and Eric Hipwood. If that happens and the leftover selections are shifted to the end of the draft, they will disappear if the Lions don't have list spots available.

We'd all pretty much assumed it by now, but AFL media (not officially the AFL, of course) specifically states that picks in excess of available list spots are still available for academy selections.

Five spots. The movements suggest Whitecross is a likely recruit, which leaves four spots. I'm guessing it just means we rate Bewick above three (or maybe two, without Whitecross) out of the four of Chol/William/Wagner/Weller.
I think we have 6 spots to fill..... 10 senior players off list, only 4 on so far. We will prob sign Whitecross as delisted free agent during that period, then that will mean we will take 4 players in the draft and 1 in the pre season draft or just 5 in the draft depending on if they know who they want.

It could unfold like this...

DFA Whitecross
DP1 Schache
DP2 Keayes
DP3 Hipwood
DP4 Hartley (FB Coburg)
PSD ?best forgotten player of draft ala Rockliff.

Currently one rookie spot , but wouldn't b surprised if there is 2, Hammelman might be let go, really struggled this year and how is he going to ever get a game...

If 2 Rookie Spots... In order..
*Grimley (Hawks)
*overlooked small defender

Jordan Bourke was on senior list this year

No he wasn't. He started off on the rookie list and was promoted part way through the year. However once the season finishes he's back to being a rookie unless officially promoted through the draft (or, in his case, delisted).

oh my bad, I thought we had an extra spot on our list and he was promoted into that spot. How many can we have on the senior list?

We can have up to 40, which is the same as what we had this year. Sounds like we'll have the same again next season.

If a team goes with 38 or 39 they can promote a rookie or two at the beginning of the year for the full season.

Thanks for cleaning that up for me... In that case we'll use the pics in the draft and won't worry about PSD.

Shouldn't have given Bewick one more go around, doesn't do enough. Flashy, inconsistent, never kicks a goal when you need him too. Wasted a spot on our list for 2016. He from all reports is a great bloke ... So he has got another contract based on his awesomeness , I'm amazed!

The NEAFL team could be very strong... Depending on our injury curse.

B: Harwood Merrett Beasley
HB:McGrath Hipwood Watts
C: Robertson Jansen. C.Beams
HF:Green. Close. Bewick
F: Lester. Schache Paparone
Fol:West. Keayes. Evans
Int:Smith, McGuiness, C.Hanley, Clayton, Paine, DP (hopefully Hartley), Rook (grimley Hawks), rook (someone to replace Hammelman).

When do the markets come out for the NEAFL ??

If Merrett's fit, he'll be in the ones.
Some notable depth however
