Just on Schache's reported lack of speed, I am reading the great J. Brown's autobiography and he mentioned always being told he wasn't quick enough to make it.
How much of a factor is Schache's speed to his effectiveness up forward?

I thought Schache's endurance was quite good compared to others in his age bracket? (Relatively speaking of course when entering AFL level)Much more important for a KPD but a lack of speed does make things harder for a forward and means the defender is always right with you. Brown had great endurance though and could work a defender over. Schache does not although he does have more size than Browny did.
yes. schache is renowned for his indurance. from memory think he had a beep test in the 14's.I thought Schache's endurance was quite good compared to others in his age bracket? (Relatively speaking of course when entering AFL level)

His running capacity is quite good. Needs to translate that into his game more consistently though. Something that will be quite easily done at the next level.
From limited viewing Schache looks to have a lot of footy smarts. He's not just a big kid who beats up on his smaller opponents, he knows when and where to lead and is one of the most natural kicks of he footy I've seen for his size. Has a great action and just makes it look so easy. I could be way off the mark, only seen a few youtube videos.
The buildup to this draft is strange for a draftnut..
due to our position in the draft and academy prospects, there is really no speculation on who we will pick, only what we will have to pay for them. Most years there are dozens of prospects being linked to the club and argued over..
Even the way the season finished with the Doggies win and not having to subsequently choose between Weitering and Schache has taken the stress and hypothetical madness out of the equation.
not sure which is more fun, knowing who we will pick and becoming endeared to them or the nervous tension of who we will be bringing in. From a list building perspective this kind of draft is exactly what we need though.

How do you think he compares with Boyd?He is a smart player. There's some knowledgeable coaches down at his junior club the Seymour Lions and they done plenty of work in that area with him at a young age. I've been watching junior footy for a long time down and I'd say he is comfortably the best set shot kick at goal I've ever seen at that level and his leading patterns are certainly more advanced than most junior Key Forwards that have come through the ranks in recent years.
Pretty confident he'll become one of the better forwards in the competition and I'm confident that will be with us.
I haven't seen a lot, but what I have seen was enough to suggest that you're probably wrong about him being a bit soft. What is Schache physicality like though? Always seems a bit soft from what I have seen... no point being a focal point if he won't put his body on the line, crash packs, engage defenders and just make opposition around him suffer. I think it is important in todays game to have these traits as he will be having 2 defenders hanging off him and a rolling zone covering his leading patterns... has to have more ways to get involved in a game.

Thanks. I just had some queries over his willingness to get physical. Will be interesting how he turns out in 5 years time.I have not seen any indication that he is soft. He is not a big pack crasher but he gets a lot of body on body work and he usually comes out in front.
On the comparison with Boyd I would see Boyd as the far better prospect at this stage. Boyd for me has been the best junior forward to come along in the last 10 years.
our first pick after schache at 2 is 38 at the moment, with most pundits saying this is a shallow draft would there be much worth taking at that pick? i would say there is no way hipwood and keays won't be bid on before 38. if they are bid on a lot lower than we thought i'd go for has much academy talent as we can unless our recruiters clearly rate another prospect in the 40,s better than william, chol, wagner etc.The interest may come in if Keays and Hipwood are bid for a little later than anticipated, possibly giving us an earlier pick than thought. The question then becomes: Is there a non-academy kid we think is worth taking who we rank ahead of William, Chol or Wagner? Unlikely with the way points/picks are shunted to the end with first round bids. But if a bid for Keays slid into the 2nd round it might change things.
