Sitting down eating dinner and i read brenton sandersons profile on the shaq attack. He said he plays like travis cloke (at this stage i almost vomited). Then proceeded to say he moved like cloke but instead of missing he goes back and flushes them everytime.

Impressive stats aswell 34 goals in 10 games in the TAC cup. Its hard not to get excited. As sizematters said earlier he only trains once a week now so hopefully the clubs new fitness staff gets his progession into full time training right.

Not trying to rain on your parade and I am stoked we will be getting Schache. But I find it incredibly hard to believe that a kid at that level only trains once a week when under 11's train twice a week.

He very likely trains with the local Seymour team under close supervision but only makes Bushrangers training once a week.

It was reported somewhere that he only trained with his U18 squad once a week. That's not uncommon with the Bendigo, North Ballarat and Murray teams where kids live a decent distance to the town where they train and it's not feasible for their parents to drive them on a +200km round trip twice a week. The thinking is that given he's had less exposure to that development coaching environment that there's greater scope for potential. I think that potential angle is overrated personally.

Edit: xplo said what I said, only I said it better :p

Peter Bell only trained once a week with Freo towards the end of his career I'm pretty sure.

Something to do with buying a house some distance away after thinking he was going to retire sooner.

Fare point. But it was reported he trained with his main team once a week. Training by yourself or with lower grades still isnt as good as training with a higher skill based team.

FWIW, Brett Anderson has Hippy @ 13 and Keays @ 19 in his Inside Football mock draft :footy:

I'm sure we'd take that
Not that high really if it's near the mark.I think if you went back into the draft history with those numbers one of them won't play 100 games.

If you go back through the draft history, not too many over 200cms play 100 games either. Lace Out having 2cents each way? ;)

We saw with Harris last year, most clubs don't seem to pay much attention to academy players as they know they won't get them. Obviously with Keays and Hipwood being first round talents there as been more eyes on them, but given clubs know we can cover pretty much any bid they're not going to bother trying to make us burn extra points.

I also think Keays saying that playing for the Lions would be a dream come true would be a Wingard-esk deterrent.

I'm quite interested in seeing who we target in the PSD.

Clubs upped their scout numbers considerably in Queensland early last year, they would have seen plenty of the academy boys we had eligible for last years draft. Neither of them really stood out at the time like Keays and Hipwood have. I think Clubs will certainly look to push us a bit in terms of what we pay for them, nothing overly dramatic.

I'm still not expecting a top 15 bid for Hipwood. But I think I'd just about be the only one with that view at the moment. Keays one of the best juniors I've seen come out of Queensland as an 18 year old.

We've got 3 selections basically locked in(Schache, Keays and Hipwood) which is already a nice looking crop.

That's some good insight. Thanks Cotter.

Do you have any picks on who we'll go for in the PSD?

I'm down to Warnock, Jamar or Gorringe.

Never each way Freddie, always win only ;)

We only have four list spots available don't we? If that's still the case I suspect maybe pass on the PSD and grab another academy kid like Chol/Williams late in the ND who both have some nice potential. Another young developing ruck on the list would be handy but I really do like William's potential.

Think we have 5 with Paine being delisted to be re-rookied. Would guess a warnock/Jamar would be a rookie option at most though.

If Paine makes 5 then someone like Warnock would be handy to have in case of emergency, something we're unfortunately quite familiar with in our ruck department. Simpkin who was delisted by Hawthorn has some appeal as an older experienced ball winning mid who can play up forward. Would be handy to have around a young list. Knows what it takes coming from a successful side and gives his all every time.

Yep. Agree. Martin won't play 22 games and the cupboard is pretty bare after that (bar West).

Pick 2 PSD if there is no one else we fancy.

As someone said no need to get Warwick/Jamar on senior list. Rookie them and rely on someone being injured to upgrade them if required.

Alternatively we do have Martin, west as genuine rucks, smith on the rookie list and freeman, Andrews, hipwood. Schace on the list 199cm+. I know protect valuable assets and all that but let's say Martin and west were both unavailable for say two games straight I'd rather give the game time to the kids with a future for us to just learn afl pace, physicality etc. 3 or more games and definitely bring in Archie or another to protect them physically.

Just saw an advertisement for the AFL Draft on 500 Fox.

The whole ad is based on Josh Schache & has his mother do the voice over. When his name is read out as a Lions player will be a great moment for the club but even more importantly will have such significance for Josh & his family. Look out for it. This will be the story of the draft.

I dare you not to get emotional when watching it.
