For people who stress about who players support, Fyfe loved the Tigers and couldn't stand the Dockers, also why didn't Aish nominate the Crows.... so unimportant in many many instances

I think people are just looking for any reason now as to why a draftee wouldn't want to come here... maybe a defense mechanism in the event Schache might leave after two years in a way to defend the club. If we can't secure Schache past 2 years then we have a serious cultural problem and it won't be because Schache was a north supporter.

I reckon Collingwood will come after Schache eventually, even more so with the comparisons to Travis Cloke and the week Josh spent at Collingwood. Still salty over Beams. Regardless though, I reckon he'll turn them down and will be a one club player.

How about we wait until we actually draft a player onto our list before we start speculating which Victorian club will target them at the end of 2017

Schache looks like a dependable kick, which is rare amongst the better young key forwards in the league. As long as he's physically up to it (which he looks to be) and has reasonable forward instincts (which he looks to have), he should get at least three or four shots a game just due to his size and endurance. Those things being the case, I like his chances of being a reliable two goals per game at worst, and if he gets on top of teams in maybe five games per season, you're talking about a 50-60 goal forward.

And (when fit) we have one of the best midfields in the AFL :thumbsu:

i think schache will sign a 1 year extension to his contract pretty early in 2016.

Because having a team effectively selected out of players who would otherwise be picked in the late 20s or worse would continue our mediocrity indefinitely. Go back and dig up the list of players available at our picks over the years who supported the Lions - it's a very very brief list. Even many Queenslanders don't.

I suppose, being touted as a top pick, something that as a kid, I've always looked up to. Any club would be an awesome to get an oppurtunity to play at the next level.

Brisbane Lions, having that connection, with my dad playing with them, I'd be very happy to go up there, pretty amazing, exciting and something I'm really looking forward to and I just hope I can take it with both hands.

LLoyd confirmed on 9's Sunday Footy Show he has been coaching him on set shots.

He's spent a week living with Travis Cloke and is in constant contact with champion goalkicker Matthew Lloyd.

Interesting snippet from the coach in the Chairman's Update, particularly the bit in bold:

Over this Trade Period we have gotten everything we were after. Replacements for the players we lost, kept our draft picks and ability to grab our young Queensland talent through the Hyundai Help For Kids Lions Academy. As an added bonus, we picked up enough points to equate to a future pick 13 for next year’s Draft to secure the services of yet another local Academy player. Peter Schwab and his team have done a great job.

I would assume he has calculated that on the finishing positions of the clubs from whom those future picks are coming? Correct me if I'm wrong but the picks are coming from the Pies and the Saints? If so I expect the Pies to improve slightly but the Saints to fall back which will help

It's the saints 2nd rounder via the Freeman, then Aish trade, and the Kangas 3rd rounder via the Bastinac Trade. Had a quick look, and think they've loaded the 20% discount on to it as well, hence why the mention the academy prospect.

Watching his highlights video he doesn't even seem that slow. Seems like his quick first few steps (Quigley has touched on this a few times) is enough to get him out of trouble and get moving. Seems like he just needs to iron those kicks out, they do seem to up-and-under a fair bit
