Just realised with Schache, Keays and Hipwood we're getting 3 more lefties. Our list must have the least amount of left footers of any AFL club so they will be a handy addition.

I thought I’d quickly do the maths and figure out what our best and worst case scenarios are tonight:
...

EDIT: Nope, I'm pretty sure a lot of this is wrong. I'll take another look at it and update. Apologies to anyone who read this and got the wrong idea.

Don't worry about it, it defies working out because our picks will move - first down the order as the first couple of academy bids are matched, then up the order as Sydney and GWS use their picks to match those bids. As far as I can work out, we'll be able to match bids for Hipwood and Keays barring anything bizarre happening, and then the question is whether we have that left over second rounder or not. (And even if we do, might we use that to match a third academy player? Apparently the Bulldogs have an eye on Rueben Williams...)

Just did a little back of the envelope based on Twomey's phantom draft.

Our picks 38-42 will rise to be 36-40 due to the Swans burning three picks to get Mills. If his predictions are right and Hipwood goes at 12 and Keays goes at 21, we would have a second rounder left over (which will rise to be pick 36) and another of our second rounders would drop back to pick 56.

I think.

Does anyone know what jumper number Laurence Schahce wore when playing for the Bears? Be nice to see young Josh get that same number jumper tonight when he goes on stage.

23

Same at Woodville in the SANFL as well IIRC.

23, amazing story for the young man.

I really like Johnson, could be anything. Kicking is a bit up and down but his speed and sidestep ability is breathtaking. If developed properly, he'll be a star. I think he could go as high as pick 20.

Think majority of the others on your list will slip through.

Because of his injuries ( ie like J Mcgrath),this may go against him therefore I am hoping he slips. If he does make it thru to the rookie draft - the lions should be treating as a high priority. What do think of m daw, interested on your view?

Thanks for the replies boys and girls. So the number is free. Be a great moment tonight.

In the pre-show leppa was interviewed and mentioned that Josh's dad actually passed 23 on to him. Quite special if it happens.

Literally though, what are the chances that #23 is suddenly opened in a time where our club needs a full forward to stand up and that full forward seems to be the son who played for us with that number 23 so many years ago. Just gotta love the footy.

The guernsey he gets tonight won't have a number on it per AFL rules. He will be given the 23 in a press conference next week.

23. His father handed it to Leppa himself who gets to hand it back to Josh tonight. Great stuff. :thumbsu:

Leppa got his jumper from Laurence Schache and 23 years later Leppa is there presenting the jumper to Josh. Great story

Really hope #23 is on the back of the guernsey for the jumper presentation

It'll be interesting to see what we do after Schache/Hipwood/Keays. We could have a pick at around 40 still hopefully if the bidding before isn't too high. Would only leave us with one senior list spot however if that eventuates. If two of our other academy players get bids, like Wagner and William we'd have to let one go due to a lack of senior spots, but that's the nature of the game now I guess.

Yeah, injuries the main reason he isn't largely considered a top 25 pick imo. They've stopped him from showing improvement. I'd be very very surprised if he slipped that far though.

I'd pass on Daw. We've got better options. He'd be a wasted list spot.

Leppitsch on Draft Show now. Asked about possible early bidding by rival clubs in order to force us to use more points to match.

Leppa didn't exactly shut it down. Pretty much just said 'we hope it doesn't happen'.

Hmmm.
