FWIW, Emma Quayle on SEN said the Lions and Giants were the big winners whilst being very complimentary of Carlton.

Disgusting post!!! Even if you are joking its totally unnaceptable. Go Away.If William and Chol were white, they both would be drafted. Fair to say that we need to see some Sudanese players make it at AFL level from the rookie draft before clubs will be willing to select them in the National draft.

I'll add him to our Robertson, Close, Golby and god knows how many others list. What this draft cemented was that if you're well performed in your underage year but injured in your senior year then you're a very good chance of getting drafted to the lions. We love an injured slider
Yeah biggest load of rubbish I have ever read. Sorry but Math is better than Rubin at this stage, and Chol is still seriously green too. William will get rookie listed.....Just a general observation that he thinks the lions recruiters are a bunch of racists?

Does anybody think rookie listing William and Paine is not fait accompli?

Only 4 queenslanders drafted all from Lions academy. You would hope that would grow in the coming years and a few will get picked up in the PSD/Rookie drafts this year. From what I understand, we'd probably need someone else to rookie Paine if we didn't, a la Banfield.
No idea about William. There might still be someone else we rate more highly, and we do have the second pick in the rookie draft.
I really hope we take him though. Even with the academies there just aren't that many draftable Queenslanders around.

Glad to see Buzza given a go, will be interesting to see how he goes.
Senior list:
Key Forwards - Close, Freeman, Walker, Schache, McStay, Hipwood, Skinner
Key Backs - Merrett, Andrews, Clarke, Watts, McStay, Hipwood, Skinner
Starting to put together some real depth there.
Also good to see we drafted two genuine midfielders instead of going for utilities.
Beasley and Gardiner would count as Key Backs IMO. Watts I'm not so sure of, neither McStay. Both of those guys aren't really KPD's despite being taller than the two i've named, they project more as taller Flankers/ rebounding half backs who can cover off taller guys in a pinch or resting tall mids.
Paine up forward.
Being a kpd is more than just height. Both of them are over 191. Just because you're tall doesn't mean you have the game style or attributes to play as a real kpd.Really? Beasley and Gardiner key position and Watts and McStay not? I don't think Beasley or Gardiner will ever be genuine key backs given they're barely 190cm. Watts will fill out (if not delisted beforehand) and while McStay may be better suited to being a 3rd tall I think he'll be capable of playing key position.
Yes it has been slim pickings, though I recall when Garner came out of Sherwood (western magpies) we had a few drafted that year, but I dont think there was any long careers. If you arent really starring at qld under 18's or more importantly in the academy you wont getting drafted out of qld.And four is probably as many as there have been for a number of years.

I find this an interesting argument. I'm not buying into the racism side of things, and I'm going to beg the overly-politically-correct to consider whether they actually think that this is a statement of superiority before going nuts.Yeah biggest load of rubbish I have ever read. ) - but I'd be interested to know how much this plays into recruiting.

agree with you. there have been a couple of posts implying racism re. not drafting william and chol. seeing we passed on wagner what does that say about our views on anglo saxons? what a joke.Yeah biggest load of rubbish I have ever read. brizzy bandit summed it up pretty well.Yep you're right.... Sorry.
We offered them a spot in the Lions Academy over a bunch of other prospects.....
Then invested countless hours into their development both on and off the field...
Then despite them being the absolute best option for our club at the picks we had..... we ignored them because they are black.
You're comment actually cheapens their efforts and journey..... And speaks horrible things about the people at the Lions.
Worst post I've read on BigFooty.
Noticed he lists a lot of midsize players, the big guys seem to come on in the final year.No Lions academy boys in Cals' early 2016 draft lot
