Sorry guys couldn't find anywhere else to put this, here's Jacob Hopper's contribution against VFL bodies on the weekend.

Jacob Hopper: 18 disposals (including 14 contested possessions), 7 clearances, 3 Rebound 50s and 12 tackles.

Really starting to establish himself as a top 10 prospect for the coming draft, as the statistics show he's very hard at it and very good inside. Got clean hands, terrific awareness and is hard at the footy.

If the draft was held tomorrow and the academies didn't exist, some clubs would choose Callum Mills. The midfielder has been out for the past few weeks because of a stress reaction in his shin, and won't play for another four or five weeks. But last year he was brave, versatile, competitive and influential. He has already made a good start. Those who didn't choose him might opt for Jacob Hopper, who missed much of last year through knee and hand injuries but has started this one well and looks as comfortable as anyone around the ball: hard and hungry but composed at the same time. Playing for the AFL Academy against Werribee on Sunday, he laid 12 tackles.

Or...

"If the draft was held tomorrow and the academies didn't exist, it's likely that no club would have a chance to choose Callum Mills. Those who couldn't choose him would also not be able to opt for Jacob Hopper, as neither would have nominated or would be considered marginal talents at best given the years of NSW "talent" prior to the establishment of the academies."

THE AFL’s northern academies are set to bear more fruit with Riverina teen Jacob Hopper almost certain to be Greater Western Sydney’s first-round pick in November.
The AFL Academy midfielder has huge raps, despite knee surgery last year, and could end up going only a few picks behind likely No. 1 selection Callum Mills. The 186cm midfielder has divided his time between the NSW-ACT Rams and Ballarat’s St Patrick’s College after growing up in the country town of Leeton, near Wagga Wagga.

See what happens when you put a bit of effort into identifying and nurturing young talented players in NSW?

Who woulda thunk it - it pays off and good players are produced.

But all you will hear out of a bleating myopic Melbourne "establishment" is - oh s#it NSW have produced a couple of very good players over a couple of years!!!IT MUST BE STOPPED!!!! NSW CAN'T BE ALLOWED TO DO THIS - THIS IS OUR GAME. HOW DARE YOU PRODUCE BETTER PLAYERS THAN US! SHUT IT DOWN. THE SKY IS FALLING! SHUT IT DOWN.

ATM it seems to be working out, GWS getting some good kids from the southern half of the state and Sydney getting some from Sydney and further north.

Just a matter of time before WS itself starts throwing up some good kids

Hope so. Would be great to see a Penrith or Blacktown kid make it to the Giants Senior list. Imagine the public affairs drive around that story.

Another great game for Hopper on the weekend, don't have his exact numbers yet but was better than a number of Blues listed players, Jacob just keeps on getting his hands on the footy first.

Pennant Hills and Cambelltown have always had decent aussie rules participation, so would hope to see some talent coming out of there in the near future.

But to have the whole of South-West NSW and Canberra - that ain't bad territory to have to yourself! No wonder Eddie's mad!!

Realistically we can only get dibs on one great get from the academy. If we have two top kids we need to pick which one gets our first round pick; clubs can seek to outbid us.

Steele probably will turn out to be one, but it was only our deft trading that meant we had three extra picks to use. we are unlikely to be so lucky in later years.

That one pick can still be worth a lot. Isaac Heeney was taken by the swans at 19 when he was a top 3 pick, that's a massive advantage in the scheme of things. If the Giants are getting a similar advantage every year, it's worth a fair bit.

True, but it's only relative based on where said kid would have gone compared to where our first draft pick is. If a kid is rated top 10 and our pick is 10-12 there's hardly the same advantage as the Swans had with Heeney.

You'd need a top kid every year and statistically that's not likely to happen.

With the Sudanese population around Blacktown surely we can uncover our own (but talented) Majak Daw?

I hear your sentiment. I think the Vic clubs get it a bit easy too. But don't kid yourself that your not the only ones being screwed. For example, any F/S prospects from Melbourne clubs must only have played 100 games, yet for port, it's 200. In fact its 200 games for about 4 SANFL clubs - something we didnt/don't want, we wanted the 100 game Port only rule in line with Victoria. I know that sounds like a sweet deal but in actual fact we have only taken Brett Ebert this way and the crows haven't taken one player.

Yet, Jono Brown goes to brizzy after his dad played 51 games for Fitzroy.
The crows didn't get gibbs and even I think that's poo.

Bulldogs currently have 4 F/S in their 25.

The whole thing is a joke IMO and needs changing. I like the F/S and academy in theory but hate the rules. See Ablett, Hawkins etc. I know they've changed it but the swans getting Heaney and Mitchell at such a cheap rate over the last couple years isn't right, especially with a bigger salary cap.

I want you to have access to NSW players, just at the correct price.
