Clayton Oliver would be a good get if he lasts to our first pick.
Hard nut, stands up in a tackle, dishes them out too, not a skinny kid, seems a ready to go inside mid in the mold of another bloke called "Oliver".

We've only had one player with the surname oliver.

HaroldOliver relative?

Cal Twomey on AFL:

PORT ADELAIDEPick 32: Recruiting manager Geoff Parker will again have to twiddle his thumbs for the first half an hour of draft night before getting into things. Some defensive back-up might be on the cards with their first pick, and West Australian Jesse Glass-McCasker has height (196cm, 95kg) and speed (3.06 seconds over 20 metres at the combine) on his side.

Around the mark: Aidyn Johnson, Cameron Hewett, Brandon White

Aidyn Johnson (VIC – MID)
Height: 184cm, Weight: 75kg, DOB: 31/10/1997
Recruited from: Bendigo Pioneers
Range: 20-undrafted

Cameron Hewett is the type of player I'd pick out of the 4 listed.

Don't think we need any defenders this year.

4 positions I want us to address are...(In order of preference)
Tall Inside Mid
Ruckman that can play forward (or KPF that can ruck)
Specialist small forward
Outside mid/forward flanker

I wouldn't mind picking up Mitch Golby (delisted by Brisbane). He was looking like developing in to a more than solid AFL player early in his career under Voss's coaching. The wheels have fallen off big time in the past two years, in part due to injury, but he's a good size and a beautiful kick. As far as ready made midfielders go we could do far worse.

In a weak draft some state players will come into focus for the rookie list:

TOM KEOUGH
West Adelaide, 23, 194cm, 91kgA versatile key defender who can play tall or small, Keough received the Fos Williams Medal after restricting WA goalsneak Shane Yarran in this year's state game. The 23-year-old has developed into of the SANFL's premier tall backmen, played in Wests' premiership triumph this season and attracted sufficient interest from AFL clubs to earn an invitation to the state combine.

PAT LEVICKI
Norwood, 23, 196cm, 90kg The powerfully-built tall defender impressed with his high-leaping at the SA state combine, registering a 91cm running jump and 76cm standing vertical jump. The mobile big man played only one senior SANFL game last year, which spurred him to undertake a huge pre-season program where he bulked up and also improved his running and kicking. Levicki appeared in 14 senior matches in a breakout 2015 and flew onto recruiters' radars.

I think we're good for tall defenders. We have a good core in Hombsch, Carlile, Trengove and Jonas (ordered by importance) and they have back up in Clurey, Austin and floaters like Westoff and O'Shea.

With this in mind I'm keen on getting a couple midfield beasts with equal parts mongrel and speed.

Do we? Perhaps another ruckman can be taken via the rookie list. I'm with Ford - use the two picks in the main draft to target tall midfieders.

Def rookie selection.

Im expecting the likes of partington, clarke etc to just be pinched right under out noses i.e pick 25-30.

Aidyn johnson apparently has the potential to be the best wingman of this years draft but along with the injuries has a poor attitude and doesnt really commit to the off field areas 100%.

Hewett looms as a good pick but has a really poor and inconsistent kick. Smooth mover though

These are the sort of guys you get with our time at the draft. Tom cole and fiorini are two guys with good disposal who could also be avaliable at our pick albeit not that clearence machine type mid

Give Ken a call please:cool:

Talking to my mate who is a teacher, apparently Port interviewed on of his students, Josh Schoenfeld at the draft combine. He broke the 3km time trial record and got a 16.2 beep test which is second all-time best behind Hartung. Sounds like he's a really good athlete, but not elite with his skills. He could fit our game plan well and could be a good project if we can get his skills into above average range.

Very Impressive highlights for Golby

was there a handshake agreement involved with Richmond and Moore's delisting? they did help us get Dixon after all
mmmmm ... good point. If Richmond were interested but didnt want to pay Moore what he wanted, this could be a way around it

From smithy7 's posted article in the list management thread "Their two selections will be young talent for the future."

Come on down brandon white and aidyn johnson

Partington may slide. Oliver definitely wont, 2-3 clubs keen with first rounders.

Tahana probably who im most keen on, and hewett

For me i dont want unskilled players running around in Port jumpers. We have had far to many.

Wouldn't say he is unskilled, just that his game is heavily built around his fitness and athleticism. Hasn't struck me as a class above in the games I've seen him so not so sure he's AFL material, but often players' defensive efforts go unheralded at junior levels so quite possible I haven't acknowledged this aspect of his game.

2012 was a long time ago in footy. Those highlights make him look like an extreme upgrade on Kane Mitchell, or a mostly outside poor man's Polec, but in 2015 sadly the knock on him week in week out in NEAFL was his poor use of the ball. The wheels fell off for some reason. Source: thread in Brisbane Lions "Roster Watch" sub forum.
