Not really on the radar of the bigfooty or the media draft profilers and I have never seen him play, but bloody hell Matthew Debruin has the most impressive highlights package I've seen in a while. On face value 10 disposals per game from a 19 year old isn't particularly much to write home about, but well worth a watch on the draft machine.

I actually looked up his info up on Inside Football's draft guide a couple of hours ago. I was looking for some info on a couple of Vic Country kids and saw he was from Pakenham and wondered if my nephew knew anything about him as he is charge of sports program at Lakeside Lutheran school at Pakenham. He plays for Gippsland Power.

His Inside Football profiles says " Matty is a super quick athlete who had an Athletics Australia scholarship , but had a gap year with that because he was moving from junior to senior athletics. Hadn't played much footy in the past 2 years after being in the Power's Under 16 team three years ago. He's got better and better as the year went. Can run and carry and had some impact with his line breaking speed and vertical jump." - Gippsland Power coach Leigh Brown.

I looked up his athletics profile he is a hurdler and he has a best time of 13.76 sec for the 110m hurdles in 2014 and 52.48 sec for 400m hurdles in 2015. To get an idea of what sort of speed that might translate to I looked up Oz record holder Kyle Van Dur Kype's times and in 1994 when he was 23 he ran a 10.47 for the 100m and a 13.45 for the 110m hurdle that year. I figured that means Deruin would run 100m in around 11 flat.

And from his profile in that link you put in your post it confirmed his speed
A former athlete who has a personal best of just over 11 seconds in the 100m sprint, Debruin returned to the Gippsland Power last season and kicked 10 goals from 18 games. Has explosive power to go with his obvious running ability, and can play in a variety of roles as he showed at the Power last season.

So who are on our list of pick if slides? Realistically
1 Ah chee *unlikely
2 B McKay
3 Rioli
4 R Clarke
5 Cunningham

I hope mckay slides. Great understudy to alipate and jackson. A prospect for a few years down the track, but i think he goes to WB before our pick. Ah chee, that goes without saying... Would be good to have 2 brothers going around again.

Knigttmare's response to a question about De Bruin on 12 November

what are your thoughts on Matt De Bruin?. got some serious pace

Good height, excellent athlete but a raw talent. Production below average. Skills below average overall and very low hurt factor. Not a contested ball winner. He is a development project and rookie chance.

and on 3 September - which given he was concentrating on athletics for 2 years and went to 2014 World Junior Championships makes sense

KM, just wondering if you know anything about Matt De Bruin, from Gippsland Power. I like his speed and agility. Rookie draft chance?

He has been invited to the state screenings so like those others he is a rookie chance with a couple of clubs at least considering him, without his chances being particularly high.

De Bruin has shown good improvement over the second half of the season after a quiet first half of the season, and with his eye-catching game v Sandringham it will be those glimpses of something in addition to his improvement that will be what makes his case.

Failing getting drafted this year, given his improvement, De Bruin is one of those who I'd consider worth seeing again next season as he may just require that one more year developing.

Lovell looks like a pretty likely type. If Ben Mckay is not around at 32ish, i would be pretty happy to take him, if he is available.

Looks like Sam Blease.

Teshevski-Beckwith is a smoky im interested in.

Peter Matera's son is in this years draft. Plays nothing like his old man but has something special about him - even though WCE rejected him as a father/son.

Couple of rangy, quick midfielders who tend to be in discussions around where our first pick will be are Declan Mountford and David Cunningham. Mountford better inside with his contested work and has a nicer kick on him in my opinion, but Cunningham has the kind of speed which is going to really stand out at AFL level whereas Mountford is probably more middle of the road.
Mountford looks good - loves a goal as well

Found this bit about De Bruin - no figures just states the facts, 57 Victorians went to the state combine ( another 41 went to the National combine).

GIPPSLAND Power is hopeful up to half a dozen of its TAC Cup contingent will be picked up by AFL clubs next month following strong results at the national and state draft combines over the weekend.

Five of the Power's senior list - Sam Skinner, Ben McKay, Harry McKay, Nash Holmes and Josh Dunkley - made their case at the National Draft Combine over the weekend, while Matt Debruin, Tom Papley and Deven Costigan were invited to state testing on Sunday. The two metre tall McKay twins from Warragul were impressive during testing after coming out of the woodwork to join the Power ranks this season from outside the club's development system.
....
At Sunday's state draft track and field star Debruin shone, topping the standings for 20 metre and repeated sprints along with fourth best in the agility ratings.

For a shallow draft there seems a plethora of options for our late entry into the picking process

Cal Twomey's phantom draft only goes to pick 30.

He does a club by club analysis and links us to Aidyn Johnson, Mason Redman and the action hero named Dan Houston with our third pick (Cal thinks we will use our third pick). Dan is a 187cm medium forward from Oakleigh Chargers.

So who does everyone want as a realistic pick 32(ish), and why?

Partington or Johnson would be my two favourites. Cunningham or Clarke if they slide which is a mild possibility.

Cant believe the hype over Clayton Oliver.

Cant believe the hype over Clayton Oliver.
First real time I had heard of him was today. I had seen his picture before hard to miss the carrot top but I hadnt read anything substantial about him before the HS mock draft article.

Hes basically gone from being a late 2nd/early 3rd pick to now being one of the first 'open' picks in the draft based off winning the Morrish Medal and a good result in the agility test and ok sprint result at the combine (didnt do any endurance testing or repeat sprints). All this despite not being selected for the Championships.

I just dont get the hype over him. He could end up doing a Wines. But he could also be a huge mistake if someone picks him that high. Its a hard one to read because he didnt play Champs.

Ross Tungatalum a lazy 8 goals on the weekend playing mid forward. Ridiculous talent.

His names Oliver and he's a big bodied inside midfielder ..... See where I'm going with this.
