We're using our third pick to upgrade Sam Gray.

Maybe. According to Cal Twomey we will use our third pick to draft a player. With Mitchell delisted we have scope to draft another player. That could be in the National Draft or PSD.

If we then want a pick in the PSD Paul Stewart will be delisted and redrafted as a rookie.

Chris Davies said we might look at a back up ruck option in the PSD.

It's been said a few times by Davies or insinuated that we were only looking to use 2 picks and if we did create a 3rd spot it'd most likely be for a ruck. That's why it's a bit surprising that we didn't secure a DFA, but in all honesty we may have just missed out there because playing 3rd ruck to Lobbe and Ryder at the Maggies all year isn't that enticing.

Definitely looking forward to drafting 2 really good young mids though. Pace and ball winning ability the key features we need. And get a ruck in the PSD and we'll be laughing.

Cheers and in your opinion what / who / where are our targets this draft

Just to add that I have also come around to thinking we will take another tall forward. I like Matt Allen, Wylie Buzza and Sam Skinner as options. Allen has some potential to play some minutes as a big midfielder while Buzza and Skinner could second ruck. Skinner's probably the more developed player right now but there's something about Buzza's physicality and attack on the ball I like.

Don't worry, I'll change my mind again tomorrow. :D

thanks Ford also read where Allen is Hoff like and could develop as a mid type...

I can definitely see Stewart moving to the rookie list.

With regards to draft options, I'm getting more and more excited about the idea of maybe landing O'Kearney. I don't care that's he's slid down draft boards, he stood out to me in the champs and I see him being a quality AFL player. Unfortunately, his lack of athleticism might see Port not be keen (although it didn't stop us grabbing Mitch Harvey, so y'never know!).

He doesn't, but even so - Ben Jacobs at 16 is a no go... Ben Jacobs at 32 isn't that bad a pick. He's firmly entrenched in the Kangaroos 18 now.

Ben Jacobs Under 18s was primarily playing loose in defence, racking up cheap touches. O'Kearney works hard to cover almost the entire ground to get the ball, forward or back (although he definitely does get some easy touches in the back 50).

I remember Chris Davies saying we would leave an extra spot on our list open so that we could upgrade Krak anytime we needed him

No point doing that, we're almost certain to have one injury by then where the player is on the LTI. We have almost every year that I can recall. If Krak deserves it I'm very confident he will play Rnd 1.

It's far more likely to be salary cap related if we go in with 1 open spot on the list.

O'Kearney screams Sammy C to me. Slow, small, incredibly vanilla but just knows how to get to the right spots and win the footy.

Brett Anderson phantom draft has us taking Partington and Lovell. Can't see the point of having both of them.

Mathieson has slid from a possible top 10 to 28 in Callum Twomey's phantom draft. Would love love love Rhys. He's exactly what we need.

Yes please. I would have been all for taking Mathieson if we had kept pick 10.

I know he stunk it up at the combine but I'd still be backing him to be one of the best players to come out of the draft. He's a good hard at it footballer.

Partington is more outside wouldn't say run and carry more spread with better skills. Lovell is an inside clearence mid who is also an accumulator mid but is thought to be a small pressure forward at afl level (sam gray anyone?). Lovell would be a good pick up as he can play more than one position and can give guys like ah chee gray wingard a spot up forward if they need a chop out

In his Inside Football mock draft, which he would have done late October after the trade period closed, he had us taking Brandon White after bidding for and missing out on Harrison Himmelberg to the GWS and then taking Jock Cornell with GWS not matching it.

He had Partington going at pick 33 to Gold Coast we took White at 38 and Cornell at 43, and he did not have anyone drafting Lovell and his mock draft went to pick 80. He did have us passing at 78, as we hadn't delisted Moore at that stage.

Anyone know when the draft (ie. pick 1) commences tomorrow - Im not attending but am keen to follow it on-line.

I've seen contrasting info on line that it commences 6.30 EST (6pm SA).....but also that it starts 6pm EST (5.30 SA).

Im guessing the preliminary rubbish starts at 5.30 SA time, and pick 1 will be 30 minutes later..?

And we already have Sammy C. We can maybe carry one of those types but I don't think we can carry two.
