Any chance Aaron Francis, if he were available at our pick, could play forward? He reads it beautifully. I'd lean towards taking him regardless if he's at our pick (obviously behind Schache and Weitering). Just seems like a natural footballer who could play anywhere ala Brendon Goddard.

Also I'm still on the Maris Olekalns train. Showed some good stuff against Vic Metro. An intelligent outside mid, strikes me as a Bernie Vince or Shaun Burgoyne type ceiling, albeit currently in a Sam Colquhoun/Darcy Byrne-Jones frame.
It would be a dream to get Francis with our first pick and Burton with our second. Stranger things have happened...

Francis looks like a natural defender. Giving run off half back and a chop out for teammates. Is certainly capable of swinging forward in a game to kick a few goals if need be but wouldn't settle as a forward I don't think. Could turn into a Goddard type handyman on the field, plugging gaps everywhere.

Besides there is very little chance he slides out of top 3. Unless we're planning on challenging for wooden spoon (and let's pray that doesn't happen) he won't be wearing the teal, black and white.

At least until he asks for a trade home in three years time ;)

Aaron Francis already plays like a 2015 Easton Wood. His potential is to be able to play forward and in the midfield. That's why he's so exciting.

Twomey did his Top 20 and Partington wasn't named, which I found interesting, but I'm not that disagreeable to. He still had Burton in there.

I really think Burton is the wild card. Lever didn't play at all in his draft year and still went 13 off his potential. I think Burton is similar.

Too risky for a 1st round pick - pick 7 based on the current ladder.

Second round if available.

That's the thing though... Why is it risky if you rate how good he can be? Drafting is such a crazy specific science.

We keep seeing posters on here talking about how we picked Butcher, Moore and Pittard before Fyfe.

We've read why we couldn't "risk" taking Fyfe.

With a draft rated so low as this one, why not take a risk on a very highly rated junior like Burton?

Why is Francis named at CHF? The 2 games I saw he was at FB.

He's not exactly, they've named 6 forwards, 6 midfielders, 6 defenders and 4 interchange. He's in the group of 6 forwards so you would have expected him among the defenders.

This years draft seems to be rated incredibly low. I can see why we have tied up the majority of our list as teams will not be drafting many players this year. It seems like a year to take risks. I would be happy to take Burton with our first pick because I would prefer to pick someone with massive upside rather than a generic role player. Tim Sullivan would be a similar long term pick for later in the draft.

Top end is still more than decent.... Falls away fairly quickly tho.

Regards the draft and under 18's championships and so on , ive had a bit of eye on this for a while . While Phillips and co do well with the state team , we don't seem to get that many drafted really . Perhaps we in SA promote the slim , fast , running types over those that are more traditional types of footballers ? , recently SA won the national championships only to have 3 or 4 lads picked in the 18's national side , says something I think.

From when we beat Vic Metro, he was described as putting on an aerial masterclass in defence. I guess it's like when Pav gets in the senior AA team as a rover.

SA downs Vic Metro
TALL defender Aaron Francis has produced an aerial master-class to lead South Australia to a 25-point win over Vic Metro at AAMI Stadium on Saturday.

The highly rated backman, who has already played several senior games at SANFL level, took 12 marks, including 11 intercepts, to drive SA to its first win of the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships.

Francis, who is 191cm and 88kg, also finished with 17 disposals and six rebound 50s in the best on ground display, reinforcing his great talent.

Same size as Paul Stewart shame it's too small for a key forward role based on modern KPI's. ;)

Do we need another young defender? Unless we are trading so me. Going by the good judges here I hope we go for Burton.

no way is schache falling to us barring some shocking accident like he breaks his leg pre draft which of course I hope doesn't happen.

Also Jonts whyndo you think Francis will be at our pick. Seems a huge consensus around him being a top pick beofre champs , then at champs stamped himself as a top 3 pick. Maybe 4 or 5 at latest allowing for some absolute bolters.

Drop down a couple of picks as he is from S.A.

When Vic Country dominates, they went undefeated, there is a good chance it will be a relatively weak draft.

I like that there is a lot of decent vic country prospects.

We like to draft vic country boys , we have a good history with keeping country boys , we have a list full of country boys already so new vic country draftees will like that.

Parish , Mathieson , curnow , Collins , cole , McKay

we have just as many Vic metro kids as country kids
Gray, Lobbe, Trengove, Moore, O'Shea, Young, Bryne-Jones, Amon, are all Vic metro kids directly drafted
Carlile, Boak, Butcher, Pittard, Wines, Clurrey, Impey, Palmer are the Vic country kids directly drafted

Jeepers, I knew he was listed as weighing a bit, but I didn't expect Charlie Curnow to look this beefy.

Looks a helluva lot bigger than his brother.

He's the most intriguing one for me. Didn't play in the Championships as he recovers from a knee (dislocation in a game, no structural damage, should be 100% by the Draft Combine).

His regional manager described him as:

He is what regional manager Michael Turner describes as “a prototype”, mixing the speed of his brother Ed, who plays for Carlton, and the size of No.1 draft pick Paddy McCartin.

“Not too many kids come along like Charlie,” Turner said.

“You can virtually play him in any position on the ground, especially at TAC Cup level.

“He’s got that Curnow family athletic ability. There’s not too many players like him in that regard.”

Haven't gotten to see him play though. But I'd imagine we'd have an eye on him for sure.

I would be over the moon to land this boy but just get a feeling he'll get piped before us.

What I would do for a pick between 15-25 where we could have a chance and landing bonner. Boy can play
