Doubtless Dixon could play in ruck but that is not what we got him for. Look at our list and we have one less genuine ruckman than we had last year, two if you include Harvey. There is also the WADA thing hanging about and if Ryder gets suspended we will rely on Lobbe again. Westhoff has never really impressed me as a ruckman and Trengove is our tallest defender.
Then there is RossFC's point about our SANFL depth.
I would have thought it was pretty obvious that we need another genuine ruckman on our list.

I'm pretty confident in how Lobbe would go if he has to play as a sole ruckman. There have been many situations where a player performs when he is the last man standing.

What do you think of Darcy Cameron? Has been mentioned as a mature age WAFL prospect and looked a good pure ruck even in his u18 days. Still young. Worth a rookie spot?

WAFL mature age prospects

Darcy Cameron (Claremont)

Age: 20

Position: Ruckman/key forward

2015 WAFL average numbers: 17 hit-outs, 10 disposals and 4 marks from 11 matches (11 goals overall)

AS A pure ruckman, Cameron as overlooked by AFL clubs over the past two years. But in 2015, he added another dynamic to his game, playing — and impressing — a lot more in the forward line. And it might have put him back on the draft radar. As well as averaging 17 hit-outs per game (including a whopping 61 in Round 18), Cameron booted 11 goals from 11 games. At 204cm and 104kg, Cameron is an agile big man with excellent skills and provides a solid marking target around the ground.

He played most of his footy in the reserves this year...

Perennial bigfooty favourite to name drop, but I just don't see it with him.

I don't think there's any draft relevant rucks in the WAFL. Nathan Blakely, brother of Fremantle's Conor would be the most likely but even then I doubt he has the size.

Rookie Mark Jamar unless it looks like he will get picked by another club as a DFA.

I'm sorta hoping we get a ruck that is built well and is between 20-24 years old that also has potential to play AFL in a few years. If he can play forward it's a bonus.

Pretty much a direct replacement for Redden.

A lot of the dominant rucks in the state leagues are undersized for the AFL. 195-197cm mark. The rise in the height of KPP's has had the effect of killing ruck depth across the country.

I guess it depends if any of those undersized players have a good leap on them in ruck contests while still being built solidly.

From what I've seen of Frampton he will be ready to lead the sanfl ruck if not next year certainly the year after. He probably could do it next year. But it would be in his best interests to develop his forward game to build his versatility. That's what his true value would be down the track.

Get Jamar and he can lead the ruck next year giving Frampton the opportunity to build his forward line game. Jamar would also act as a ruck coach for him both at training and during games.

If the unthinkable happens and Ryder is suspended and Lobbe is injured at the same time Jamar comes in as the break glass option. A 194cm state league ruckman would be obliterated at AFL level.

I still remember the st kilda game when primus threw o'shea in the ruck -shudders-

100% Agree. Not only a mentor to Frampton but he's said he wants to go into coaching and could really help Lobbe and Ryder as well.

According to the sen draft guide Davin Ferriera was a member of the Port Adelaide indigenous academy.

One other observation, Gippsland coach Leigh Brown considers the once highly rated (did his acl) Sam Skinner to be a key forward / ruck. He is usually described as a key back.

Flicking through the inside footy draft profiles and noticed 208cm 103kg ruckman Kyle Galloway. Only been playing footy for three years and his stats line is nothing special exept that in 5 TAC cup games he averaged 15.4 tackles and in his only under 18's game he had 14.

Rookie lists are designed for kids like that.

Ah yes. When the first three or four are incapacitated our preparedness will pay off.

What first three or four? We only have two genuine AFL ready ruckmen in Ryder and Lobbe. The rest are an untried kid and a couple of 'stop gaps'. Frampton won't last long if you are going to ask him to carry the SANFL rucks for the entire season. If the WADA decision goes against us that number could be reduced even further.

From what I am reading in this thread no one is saying we should use the 32 pick on a ruckman or that we have to have another ruckman on the Senior List. An experienced ruckman on the Rookie List will do. That guy could support Frampton and act as insurance if we have injury or suspension.[/QUOTE]

Would be interested why Davin didn't finish the season at Norwood whether it's family issues or homesickness? Plenty to like about him. Noticed he's a Gold Coast supporter as well checking him out after his first Norwood game. Would that be a draft first?

The Roar likes him:
52. Kyle Galloway – Deniliquin (Ruckman 206cm/105kgs)

He’s a big, big boy and is still growing. Just 5cm shorter than Sandilands he has developed quickly and could go early if recruiters want him bad enough. Has done enough to show he could be a future star.

Frampton ain't ready.

People say this, but honestly, i'd be happy to back him in.

Hawthorn won a flag with 0 game, 20 year old Renouf as their 3rd ruck, who played in each of their finals that year. In 2002, 2nd year, 20yo ruck Jamie Charman played in 20 games for Brisbane on their way to a premiership and only missed out due to injury. In 2003 in his 3rd year he led Brisbane to a premiership. Geelongs Ruck contingent in 2011? 50 year old Ottens, 11 game Trent West, 2 game Dawson Simpson and 0 game Nathan Vardy.

If we don't get a break glass ruckman, then it's not the end of the world.

Still, having said that, I think we'll rookie list someone.

WTF?

What do we not already know about Kane?
Surely this list should be for blokes we want to have a decent look at from elsewhere?

Are we taking the **** here?

It's just a AFL technicality for paperwork probably insurance?

I asked this too yesterday, and the advice I received was that this covers him (and I guess us) in the event of injury.

Fair enough then.

It lets him train with the rest of the boys for the three or four weeks before the rookie draft. It's not about seeing what he can do rather ensuring he doesn't start behind in preseason training.

Really not sure what the issue is.

It is interesting that there is only one kid from outside of their clubs program on that list, golds from GWS training with collingwood. Better the devil you know?

I would have thought this would be a great opportunity to try before you buy, either in the draft or the later DFA periods.

Moore will probably go so thats
X1 big bodied mid who can actually play to potentially help out wines
X1 ruckman - stocks are thin with lobbe and ryder in our best 22 then relying on a 2nd year ruckman in frampton next year isnt going to work at all
X1 outside mid who can kick and is taller than 185 preferably. Arguably already filled this need with toump so lower down on the list.
X1 small crumbing forward to develop; amon is kind of developing in this role in the sanfl but thats about it and i think the club sees him as an efficient kicking mid in the future

Amon's foot skills are too good to waste as a crumbing forward. I would like to see him eventually play off a wing.
