If Curnow can play the 3rd tall then he probably suits us down to the ground from a needs basis.

Thinking if we want him at #3 we could then have a crack at his brother Ed, the quintessential B grader, to make sure he feels right at home at the Suns and reduce the flight risk. Averaging 21 touches last 2 years, 26 next year, elite fitness, can tag (Carlton have got too many taggers), and possibly convert him to a lock down back pocket with his propensity for tagging. Surely he would jump at the chance to play with his brother and a club on the verge of success.

If we were only going to use our first 2 picks on draftees I would be confident our pick 2nd rounder would be more than enough to get the job done (maybe they could send us a 2016 3rd rounder as well), or else they can have McKenzie.
Don't mind the sound of it. Just not sure many teams are actively trying to recruit BAD kicks to play in their back half. You reckon Carlton would think of taking a Gorringe + Mckenzie + one of our second rounders for Curnow + Yarran?

Fair point - his kicking is limited at best. You could compare him to a younger improved version of Andrew Raines - professional, better offensively, not quite as good a tagger. Not a game changer just a solid player and citizen who can provide experience.

Given the blues need all the picks they can get we can throw in our 3rd rd pick to sweeten the deal - 25 + 43 + Gorringe + McKenzie = Curnow + Yarran

Will we pick 3rd? Does it matter if we pick 4th instead?

The Bombers a decent chance to not win another game. Only the game against us is in play given their recent form.
We have home games against the Bombers and then against a potentially weakened Port.
Port a real chance to be officially out of the finals by then. They have to beat both the Giants and the Hawks in the next 2 weeks to even stay in the hunt, plus hope a few other teams lose. If they are out they might be putting a few players away early to get ready for the pre-season.

3rd or 4th pick? Win 2 games and pick 4th for me. Will get one of Francis or Parish, or one of a few candidates for draft bolter. Sounds good. Wins sound good. Home wins sound really good.

Agree, now that pick 2 is gone we need to win as many games as possible to help create a feeling that the club has turned the corner and give some energy to the upcoming pre season.

Knightmare in his thread saying Charlie Curnow and Francis are fighting for that 3rd best player.

Curnow stands 191 and 95kg as a Powerful mid/forward
Disslocated his knee earlier this year and hasnt played since
Curnow is a real talent and may have the most upside of any. Big question Ben is do you risk pick 3-4 on someone coming off a dislocated kneecap? High risk, high return maybe.

Just on that, did anyone attend the draft in Gold Coast? Could you attend? (Tickets or walk in?) Cheers
I went last year. You had to register for them online, but because they were free, many didn't show up despite it being a 'sell out'. It was an awesome atmosphere around Broadbeach though. Lots of people in their club gear, lots coaches and club honchos roaming around. Saw the Lions group at a Tepanyaki place beforehand, saw Malthouse and the Carlton guys walking through the Broadbeach mall, saw Ashcroft and the GC team walking along the beach promenade, saw the North Melbourne crew jaywalking and almost getting hit by a car on their way to the draft.

Was an awesome atmosphere, that's for sure.

Having 'Home of the Gold Coast Suns' on every light pole and street corner gave it a great vibe, too.

I am hearing you, but look Joel Selwood. Had a wrecked knee,
Judd had shoulder reco's.

If any team can play the high risk high reward game its the Gold Coast Suns..
We're not a bottom 2-3 club with a full list.

I'm only thinking out loud.. We need a big midfielder
And we need a mid sized forward

He is both..

I have watched Rueben play a couple of times this year, very talented but very raw. Personally don't think he is worth a senior spot yet, rookie only if still available

Reuben William is really promising and now tipped in some draft boards 40-50. Excitement machine in a few years. Gun kid too.
I'm with Corkie - think both these kids are over-rated .
While I respect them and the introduction of multi cultural opportunity - these guys are learning the game. They have potential but are not natural footballers. (Think Majak Daw)
I saw Williams play NEAFL at the weekend. I'm told he had 11 marks (probably all from chip kicks given to him by Lions Academy mate Keays ). For me he didn't he influence the game at all. Showed no excitement.....but he was up against a good opposition

I'd rather we stick with our own - Budarick , Scheer, Joyce , Spencer -all contributed - playing specific roles in a team that won easiy by 89 points (should have been well over 100)

If Dixon leaves, I guess the chances are pretty high that Brooksby will be elevated from rookie list as well as Saad?

Maybe only 2 x kids drafted + 2 x rookie elevations (Saad/Brooksby) + cpl of players traded in.

I'm not a fan of William, but I do like the look of both the QLD ruckmen from the championships. Both Chol and Nate Dennis would be good pick ups for the rookie list, and I doubt brisbane would take both of them. Give them a couple of years to pack on the muscle and see what happens.

What's Cal like with his drafts? Has he been accurate in the past?
If I remember correctly, he was all right last year, but I'm not 100% sure. He gets quite a lot of information being the draft/combine analysis, so he should be around the mark. But it is only August, so the order is likely to change alot between his first phantom and the actual draft.

EDIT: Found his phantom from this time last year. A bit hit and miss.

Cal mixes with the right people obviously. His last phantom was a week before the 2014 draft. Said we'll take Wright at 8, Cockatoo if available at 15 (if not then Garlett) and had us linked to Josh Glenn at pick 30. He had Touk at 20 and already gone. He gets the right mail usually.
