The " I visit the coast regularly but i wouldnt want to live there, its a great place to party etc etc" comment is so common from southerners. Im obviously biased as I was born in Southport and have lived on the GC for over 30 years but the Gold Coast has so much more to offer than just the tacky party scene and theme parks. It really is such a small part of the Gold Coast if you live here. The tourists really miss the best part of the Gold Coast as they don't really get to settle into the lifestyle.

We have an amazing hinterland, you can live on acres of land and be a 20 minute drive from the beach. Great waterways and offshore fishing, amazing beaches and surfing. Good employment opportunities. Cheap house prices (sort of) ... Also we have pretty much the best year round climate in the world as well. Oh and Gary Ablett!

Not having a dig at you at all either mate, im sure Adelaide is equally as great in different ways. Living in Australia, we are all pretty bloody lucky ! These draft kids should embrace wherever they end up as it would all be such a good experience!
I have a bunch of cousins that live up there. Ormeau to labrador. A great part of australia. Yeah its great. I guess us 'southerners' just enjoy what we have down here too. Agree with the kids embracing wherever they end up quote though.

I visit the coast reguarly but i wouldnt want to live there. Great place to party and for a holiday break. Adelaide is a great place to live and raise a family. Sure it doesnt have all the glitz and glamour of the gc but its still a nice place to live, especially when your getting payed well and living in the better suburbs.
Adelaide is a great little City

Unfortunately most people that visit the coast think that Surfers is the City and this couldn't be further from the truth. Surfers is for Tourists. Locals avoid it, calling Surfer - the GC is the same as calling Kings cross - Sydney of King St - Melbourne.

110% the only time any of our circle of friends (30+) people goes to Surfers is to take the kids to Time Zone when Tommy Time Zone strikes.

Agree RE: the talk of 'glitz and glamour' and it being a good place to holiday but a terrible place to live. I heard Bomber Thompson say a couple of months ago say that the GC has 'no soul'. Is he serious? That's such a horrible thing to say. What a jarring insult to the some 600,000 people that live there and HAVE lived there for decades.

Surfers is not Gold Coast for crying out loud. If you visit GC and only hit up Surfers you're doing it very wrong.

That's very true. The suburb of Surfers Paradise has given the Gold Coast a bad reputation among southerners. As you said, locals avoid it more often than not. In fact, Suns players avoid it too. You'll notice Suns players will opt to hang out in Broadbeach or Burleigh. The reason being that those suburbs don't have the tacky party scene attached.

Even the Gold Coast City Council knows it is bad and wants to create a CBD in Southport that is nearly the polar opposite to Surfers Paradise. They have already outlawed nightclubs and sex shops in Southport and they are even trying to ban smoking! Surfers Paradise exists for economical reasons - to get that southern dollar. It's basically the Las Vegas strip of the Gold Coast. There is nothing real or tangible about Surfers Paradise, it's all designed to get your money.

Forty years ago Surfers was quite nice until the tourists ruined it. The only locals I've ever known who go there regularly are those that work or have businesses there. It's just one big tourist resort. It's not the real Gold Coast. Go down to Burleigh and further south especially Northern NSW is some of the most beautiful spots in the world.

If we do pick up Francis and he plays first game of the year, do we move someone like KK to the wing and slot him in at half back or another option?

Francis slots in next to Thompson and Saad on the full back line with Mal, May and KK on the half back line.. he is effectively replacing Schade or Mckenzie who have been trying to play that role in recent times.. I gotta say im salivating at the prospect..

The plan at the start of the year was to play KK on the wing. Has a big tank, one of the biggest at the club.
Suspect they will try that again. Have enough guys to run off half back, but not many that have the tank
and kicking ability to be a good winger. And we need wingers.

He has played best at hb so far, but using that running ability more will be good for the team.

If we do draft Francis, even more likely KK will move up the ground.

Cant agree with this Strop... Kk can pick and choose his attacking foray's from half back and use his precision kicking to set up play like a quarter back... he is also a good size to man up and out dual many quality forwards.. I reckon half back is a more important spot than wing revolutionised by the great Peter Matera. I hope Rosa and Rishca start on the wings.. we can also try Hall and Sexton there.. leave KK at Half Back...

SO as I read that phantom draft, my first thought was f*** yeah, if we snag Francis, and Hibberd is still available at our next pick and we take him it will be a great draft. But then I thought would we take Francis and Hibberd if both were available? As much as I would love to, I don't see why we would need two third tall/running defenders from this draft when we could take a mid or half-forward.
In conclusion, I still have no idea who we should take at any of our picks or who we are actually linked to, and the phantom drafts are just confusing me more. :)

Take the best available, hibberd is a bit of an unknown as he had a few injuries. Take the chance with him at 16

Cheers Ben, that was a great read... they talk about the new bidding system and how Carlton may bid for Mills no. 1 as they know the Swans have to take him otherwise there draft is cactus.. they along with gws and brissy have already declared their hands by stockpiling late picks... it made me think that if they do select Mills and Sydney dont match.. brissy take Schach.. we will miss out on Weitering because we traded down.. that would be devastating

No way Kade is put on a wing again. He was trialed there in the first few weeks this year and was so bad he was nearly dropped! Rocket later admitted that this was his mistake because he looks like the perfect winger, but he just hasn't got the nous to play there. He is borderline AA at half-back. Leave him there.

Remember with Harbrow back and ideally not injured, he'll be back and hitting targets again. I suspect he will play on a wing at times too. Not to mention Rosa, Shaw and Matera.
