I must admit I was being dramatic.
No chance we wouldn't pick them up 1 way or another.. Just stating the fact if they lower the value of the draft picks.
We've been stooged!!
I was thinking that it would be the reverse - that teams up the draft order would make ambit bids knowing that teams have traded down the order and are committed to the academy players, and as a result the AFL would be policing teams making the Northern teams pay too much. This would have hopefully worked in our favour next year as rules may have been put in place to prevent or dissuade teams from this behavior.

You wouldn't think the AFL would change the rules after 1 year to disadvantage the teams they are bank rolling who they need to start having success (GWS, GC & Brisbane) to hopefully get those teams to getting nearer to being able to operate independently.

I'm hoping Scheer and Bowes don't have sensational years knowing they have a commitment from the Suns from us to pick them up. Hopefully they fly under the radar and take one for the team and get themselves ready for a big 2017 with another 2 1st rd young guns coming on board.

Personally hoping for 2 of Petrevski-Seton, Brodie, Berry or Ainsworth

I think Gold Coast should take Mathieson and Tucker with its first two picks. I think Gold Coast need a Callan Ward type to be a reliable inside presence that frees up Ablett, O'Meara, Swallow and Prestia to do damage outside. They don't have to be amazingly skilled, just strong, honest, consistent and fast with their hands. Mathieson's better than say Oliver because he has done the business for two years, while Oliver performed for half a season. I think Mathieson's style would suit GC's midfield better too.

Tucker gives you a pure outside runner. Garlett, Saad, Hall, Matera and Jack Martin aren't really pure wingers, but Tucker probably is. He helps your kicking issues and gives that run and carry that Rocket loves.

Touk Miller, Jesse Lonergan and Rhys Mathieson is a great core of inside players. Swallow, Prestia, O'Meara as inside/outside types and Matera, Hall, Garlett, Martin, Tucker and Saad as outside types..... this is going to be one hell of a midfield

I agree with this in as far as a top notch inside mid would be a welcome addition. If Mathieson is as advertised he would balance us up no end and provide some much needed depth for our grunt men. As much as Jaeger and Gary get in an under with the best of them, would much prefer to see them play more outside than in.
It seem that Mathieson maybe available at 16 though, Francis is still what we need at 6.
I have never seen so much difference of opinion between the so called "draft experts" this close to draft date before. But I'm going to have a go at a top ten (ignoring academy kids) and our other picks.

1 Carl Weitering
2 Bris Schache
3 Melb Wiederman
4 Ess Parish
5 Ess Curnow
6 GC Francis
7 Melb Oliver
8 Carlton Mckay H
9 Adelaide Milera
10 GWS Collins

16 GC Burton/Mathieson/Greshem

29 GC Clarke/Partington/Mackay B

56 GC Small forward - Kerbatieth

If I was Melbourne, I would choose a midfielder with more outside than inside skill at this stage. I can't think of a single player in their side that gives them outside run (in development or not). I think they would be better off choosing a player like Milera over Oliver.

I don't even care who Melbourne pick with pick 7 it's more the handful in front of our picks I'm worried about then behind

Not worried.
Clayton and the boys seem to have a few players they like and want to draft.
Will get players they want at picks 6 and 16.

Hoping Weidemann checks out health wise, which means he is more likely to go at pick 3, 4 or 5.
Also good news that Oliver has come on so strong late in the year as well.
Means more options for us at 6.

Must admit:
- we added 2MP, Garlett, Touk, Saad, Brooksby last year
- we will have academy players plus extra picks next year
- so hoping we take a risk with 6, 16 or 29 this year. Maybe Curnow at 6. Maybe Burton from SA.

With Burton, there's a chance he might not play any footy at all next year..
Just spending time working on his leg and fitness..
But whoever gets him will have a massive steal
Is a top 3 player talent wise..
If someone gets him over pick 15 you've got a 10 year plus star player

What if he never fully recovers from his injury? Anyone that takes him is taking a risk, just depends on if they think the risk will pay off.

Knightmare's updated mock draft - GC getting Francis, Hibberd and Lovell - like that mix given next year is a midfield draft and the roles played by the incoming academy prospects.

Personally don't see the need to take big chances at this draft with first couple of picks when solid known quantities, such as what Knightmare has us taking, are available that would look to be a good fit.

Francis - looks a good swingman that is better as a game changing back that fits like a glove in our backline but can also have a scoreboard impact if swung forward
Hibberd - love his physical attributes, character and his highlights package - prototypical flanker/wingman good outside player who also looks a good 1 v 1 player when in space
Lovell - think he can come in and dominate NEAFL straight away like he did U18 Championships, provide midfield depth, and press his claims for a spot on the bench in his 1st year as a player who can find the ball a lot and kick a goal

Leslie wasn't a project player. It took May & Thompson 2-3 years to become overnight sensations remember.
I think anyone classified as a KPP is a project player , look at 2MP we picked him at pick 8 , but wont really bear fruit for a while yet.

I like his picks also.

Just have the thought we need someone with some decent forward half skills.
After Losing Harley and Dicko

Yes Francis can push forward but think both Francis and Hibbered would be over kill in the backline when were slightly inadequate up forward

The good thing about having #6 and #16 is that you don't need to force anything.
Take the best player at 6.
Balance out the list from there.

Two years ago it was KK (run and kick), then balance out with Leslie (kpp) and Lemmens.
Last year it was 2MP (kpp), so it just made sense to take Garlett (speed and skill) and Miller (big tank, hard).

Expecting the same this year.
Best player at 6.
Go from there with the next 2 picks.
End up with at least player with size.
End up with at least one player who can run. Either a big tank or electric speed.

If we take Oliver or Milera at #6, expect pick #16 to have some size.
Maybe one of the McKay boys. Maybe Burton or even Himmelburg as a leading medium forward.

But Lovell at 29 makes too much sense.
