Q for those who watch these things more closely, or who have better powers of perception:

What's a sign(s) that an underage inside mid, especially one who is more physically developed like Oliver, who's beaten up on others at TAC Cup level, will have a lower ceiling? I sense plenty go well at juniors, but fail to translate. Arnot was no star, but he's an example. Many highly regarded and honoured (at junior level) insiders go by the wayside once the others catch up (Bulldogs had a Morrish medal winner I think - keg on legs - who was picked late and then found out at senior level).

I like the urgency seen in Oliver's tape, but wasn't he playing against weaker/ diluted TAC Cup teams during the Champs, perhaps inflating his numbers?

What suggests Oliver will go to the next level and not just do well when he first hits AFL (different player, but ala Daniel Rich) due to size & physicality, then plateau or regress? It's great that he models his game on Rockliff and that Carlton rising star runner-up (legit forgot his name for this minute and because he's Carlton I'm not even going to try to look up the knob's name), but both those guys are hard at it, with so-so disposal. A worry?

Devil's advocate stuff - I'm not slotting him. Cheers in advance
To dismiss some of your thoughts . He isn't a keg on legs , he is actually light enough and certainly not someone you would say is fully developed physically .
His form really escalated in that later half of the season , post champs after playing VFL and also getting a boot up the arse for a mis-demeanour .
What he is a is true red head , high spirited and doesn't like being beaten.
In the wrong environment he is likely to be a fail .
In the right environment he is likely to be a out and out star.
He would not have been a good fit for RFC prior to newman's reign as captain .

Thanks for that. Very clear and insightful. I now know a bit more about him and why we would/n't pick him

Sounds like most draft watchers here would prefer Oliver be gone by our pick than pass on him. Always a solid sign
Im Torn between the 2 of them really with Burton & gresham coming equal 3rd but leaning towards Ah Chee

Just add some spice to our team

All four should be good players so I think at least 1 of them will be at the tigers which should be a positive
Oliver is the only one of the four that I would expect to play early next year and in the midfield . the rest are longer term and as such carry a lot more risk IMO .

The whole 10-15 range seems very much up in the air to me which is a good thing for us, who will likely end up having probably 15, because we should get someone pretty highly rated. There's a whole bunch that I would be happy with and a few of them are going to have to be on the table at our pick so I'm just going to sit back and be pretty confident that we will get a good kid.

FWIW i think if Burton is on the board we would grab him although given we have got Townsend (who i have alot of hope for) and Moore, we may not look for another inside bull, personally i would love oliver or burton but see oliver as more of an immediate need.
Isn't Burton a medium/utility Froward not an on baller?

Anyone else see/hear dan Richardson mention that there are some good small forwards in this draft?
I'd paste a link but I found it in the app
If we spend the first on anything other than a mid. FJ should be sacked immediately , whilst loss and anyone older than him on the list should punch him in the gob as it will all but confirm they don't play in a GF or be given multiple opportunities to play in one .

He should be taking best available regardless of position

What makes you think the mids at our pick will be good enough? Will Oliver last and are others good enough?

Are you saying Conca not good enough and FJ should be sacked? We are getting numbers up now and if guys like Yarran get a gig it really means others are not good enough so what does that mean for the creators? Or do they continue to get blank cheques?

I am curious why we did not pick up Gorringe? We might not have any recognisable next year. We really must be hoping we are pick Goldstein or another FA target I guess.

Those putting money in the FTF fund and the players must really be getting anxious from the off fields efforts this year.

At least they got Kennedy and Moore at value to provide some chance for holes to be addressed

Gorringe is a spud if he was any good everyone would be in to him. Mature ruckman who are good are like gold and outside of KPF or Backs are the most highly prized recruits for mature agers I would say that's why we didnt look at him.

As far as Achee goes he may be able to take hangers but does he chase and tackle and harass like a banjee and does he rove and crumb? That's what we need in a small fwd IMO

So I take it you won't be happy with Ah Chee being called out on draft night?

If our list was in the same shape as 2009 we would take Oliver at 12.
In 2015 we will take AhChee.
I was a fan of the safe pick but we need/can afford to take a risk this year.

Authorised by the Australian government Canberra.

Sorry, but you forgot to put in the 'spoken by' part therefore it does not count.

No I won't and nor will you when he pisses off back home in two years time after ducking the club around with soft cocked down hill skiing efforts, trying to build a highlights package and being dropped to the VFL .
We do not need to be spending a first round pick on a bloke who is not going to address the problem which has seen the club belted in 3 consecutive years finals .
