Hope not... 1/10 chance to make it as an AFL midfielder due to height, and unlikely to become a small forward as that role is highly specialised nowadays that if you're not Eddie Betts, Cyril Rioli etc. you're not playing AFL.

To be honest I'm actually pretty happy with anyone we choose at our first pick! Seems like just about everyone we think will be there would warrant the selection, the way I see it is:

Collins - a key defender who is ready to go now and would be a replacement for Chappy, seems we have Astbury and Elton earmarked for that role though.

Gresham - a small mid/forward who's similar to Axel Foley and would slide under the radar, finds the ball and uses it well.

Oliver - solid mid that uses the ball well and wins his own footy, personally my favoured pick but feel he may be gone.

Ah Chee - Fwd with X-Factor and great skills, could be anything.

Then you have mids like Dunkley/Clarke/Matheison who are all solid foot soldiers.

Honestly would be happy with any of those as I think last years draft still has a lot to show and stake claim for spots in our side.

1/10? Rubbish. He'll be in the top handful of players from this draft.

Luke Dahlhaus?

I'm not a fan of Gresham with pick 12 but I think he's got more going him than you give him credit for.

Nah man he's gonna be a gun. A tad small but it doesn't work against him. Super quick, great foot skills and goal-sense, and he is a super smart player. As people have said would basically be our Boomer. Would be happy with him for sure if that's indeed the case.

There just aren't enough good sub 180cm players to give me any confidence taking one in the first round. You basically have to throw out all the form you have seen at TAC cup level and hope they adjust to being short in the AFL.

The VFL and other state comps are filled with sub 180cm players because of this reason. You give most of those blokes 10cm and they would be 100+ gamers in the AFL.

Just look at our own Kane Lambert. Top VFL player but will struggle to hold his spot in the AFL team going forward.

Unless Gresham is a particularly good small forward his chances of making it (playing 100+ games) are 1/10 at best. Ah Chee is a much better selection if we are looking at a small forward type, taller and offers more in the role.

As for midfielders, Oliver (187), Balic (187), Dunkley (189) would be better options.

Anyone seen much of greg clark?

Watched a bit of him at the Nationals. WA boy who plays of half back. 193 cm. fabulous kick. No mention of him going early, so Iam hoping he falls to our second pick. But I doubt it. Also 15 + beep test. Shocked he has not been mentioned as an earlier prospect.

I wonder if we use 88 and 106 or whatever they become in the draft. The supposed weakness of the draft might lead to an opportunity to choose from the scraps before the rookie draft and find a player or two.

Boomer Harvey will be a 400 gamer at sub 180. Paul Puopolo, Lewis Taylor, Hayden Ballentyne, Stephen Milne, Sam Mitchell, Luke Dalhaus, Mitch Honeychurch, Kieran Jack, Ben McGlynn, Brandon Jack, Joah Green, Dayne Zorko, Mathew Stokes...

There are more than enough examples of success in sub 180 players in the AFL both contemporary and in recent history.

Let me give you two fairly handy sub 180cm players. Sam Mitchell at 179 and Lachie Neale at 176.
Gresham will be a very good footballer.

I'm hoping for Oliver & Burton, but I'm also not stuck on a player having to be over 180cm if they are good enough

There are a number of sub 180cm players on almost every list that I would take
Eddie Betts (173cm), Rory Laird (178cm), Allen Christiansen (177cm), Dayne Zorko (174cm), Jamie Elliot (178cm), Jarryd Blair (174cm), Zack Merret (179cm), Lachie Neale (176cm), Dion Prestia (175cm), Brandon Matera (175cm), Adam Saad (178cm), Devon Smith (174cm), Sam Mitchell (179cm), Cyril Rioli (177cm), Jack Viney (178cm), Anthony Miles (179cm), Leigh Montagna (178cm), Keiran Jack (178cm), Luke Dahlhaus (178cm), Mitch Honeychurch (176cm), Caleb Daniel (167cm),

Paul Chapman (179cm), Ben Cousins (179cm) & Jason Akermanis (177cm) were all pretty handy too

You could make a premiership midfield out of just those players

I might agree with you if he were sub 170, but the guy's only 178cm, he's not exactly Peter Dinklage. Will be a very good player IMO.

Anthony Miles is not bad either.

What's so special about being tall? i would of thought that would be a disadvantage when you're trying to get the ball off the ground
