An article on Nick O'Kearney who spent with the Tigers this year:
http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl...forge-afl-career/story-e6frf3e3-1227611267252

O’Kearney’s sensational 2015 campaign came after making a big impression on the under 18s landscape in 2014, which included winning Calder’s best-and-fairest as a 17-year-old. In an attempt to make him a more complete player, O’Kearney has worked tirelessly on his inside game this year, immersing himself in more contested situations and improving his effectiveness via hands in tight.

He modelled his game on one of the AFL’s best inside midfielders — who he was lucky enough to work with on a few occasions during a training stint at Richmond. “I have really concentrated on the way Trent Cotchin goes about his work on-field as both a leader and an inside mid, combined with his off-field attributes of professionalism,” he said.

For all of the positives, however, recruiters struggle to see past his flaws. Once touted a first-round prospect, O’Kearney now seems likely to be picked later in the draft, with AFL clubs questioning his ball use.

Some more on the campaigner:

The man likely to join Carlton as the No.1 pick was watching The Chosen Few 2 documentary on AFL captains this year when Tiger Trent Cotchin declared: “I’m not one of the boys”. It resonated because Weitering has always felt the same way. “I found it interesting, especially when you’ve got your Jack Riewoldts and Dustin Martins at that club,” he said.

“He’s more than happy to do his job — captain the club, play, train, eat, sleep and whatever else — but he just loves going home to his family. "I’ve never been ‘one of the boys’ as Cotchin said. It’s not so much fitting in, it’s more sacrificing the luxuries — well, it depends on your point of view as I don’t think it’s a massive luxury going out and partying. "That’s for Dustin Martin and Dane Swan to do in Las Vegas, I’m sure they’re enjoying themselves but that’s not for me. And it’s not for Cotchin, either.”

Instead, Weitering is content spending time alone be it at home or out on the paddleboard. Weitering’s mum Tanya nicknamed him “the old man of the family” growing up and she has joked to clubs he was born a 30-year-old.

You watch.Draft Night will be completely different.
The general consensus is that the top 10 is basically set, once it gets to Carlton's 2nd pick everything starts to change and people are unsure. A lot of people have linked us to Ah Chee- But there is no solid evidence like in the past...

I just don't see Ah Chee being a FJ pick, Burton's recent medicals didn't turn out too flash- So I'm expecting him to fall past Pick 20. + Oliver won't get past Pick 10, so really not sure who we'll go at this stage.

Plenty of options at pick 12. At a later pick or rookie selection though... I wouldn't be surprised to see a Nathan Drummond type selection in David Mennen. Played prelim and grand finals for Benalla in GVFL, youngest player on the ground, many judged him BOG in both. Has a beautiful kick on both sides, decent size, good pace...

As we need to replace Chaplin asap then Collins should be a priority. He's a monster and with Rance and Grimes beside him he would be an instant success
He's a no brainer for me bc we have the option of rooming him in by rotating his spot with Dave and Todd for the season. Chaplin has let us down in three EF now and he's the weakest link down back in the talls dept.
it will also free up $450k in 2017
Collins is ready made to go and like the crows Talia he will adjust quickly
He's my man
You make good sense TI.We got our mid types last year in Cellis,Drumond,Short/Butler etc.Getting Collins has merit.
Another option:#12-Ah Chee/Burton/Gresham
and take your boy Hartley or Glass-McCasker @48

I just watched his highlights and the kid can play in fact his reel is better than a lot of the so called top 20 picks!
Such a beautiful kick. Would be stoked if he is still at our pick 2!

Very sound logic, need to sneak a KPD in somewhere.
we'd be in deep sh!t if Rance was ever to get injured.

I like Mennen, he's a neat player. I'd prefer the bloke who played on the opposite HBF at the Champs though - Kurt Mutimer. If he gets through to our second pick we've got a bargain.

Gresham is a little beauty. I have no doubt he'll make it.

Thanks mate. I must admit the journos seem to have their top 10's all over the place. Which either means the top 10 isn't set, or the journos are ignorant bumpkins. Option 2 seems like the safe bet :p. Although it does sound a bit like if someone has a surprise pick the whole order could change a lot. Interesting times. We'll get someone worthwhile to pick. Quite who we don't know. usually there are rumours that are fairly accurate. This year there is not much for the RFC.

Really like Mutimer, smoothest kicking action around.

One thing that interests me a little in regards to this pick is that I cannot see our first round draft pick playing much - if at all in his first season. Even if he did, would it likely be towards the end of the year? Does that impact on a decision? Say someone like Burton who gets a longer recovery time and more time to work back into the game. I dunno but food for thought

I really want Gresham. He'll be a little gun. If it's a choice between him and Ah Chee, it's a close one, because I love Ah Chee's skill set and attitude. But there's some risk of him becoming a type who only impacts when things are going his way. Gresham is as consistent a footballer as they come - he basically carried his TAC team this year. There's virtually no risk of him not showing up for a match, ever.

He's a better ground ball player than Ah Chee which is something we need more than aerial specialists IMO. We have Lennon, Deledio, Riewoldt, Vickery and so on up forward who can all clunk a grab, but only really Martin who's dangerous at ground level. Gresham will add another dimension, plus the ability to rack up a shedload of possessions and get the ball moving in our direction from the coal face. Ah Chee doesn't, and won't ever have that ability IMO.

Gresham is a more complete footballer. Plus he's a Knight, we love those. I'm sure we'll be all over him if available.

According to Emma Quayle on Facebook we have given up on Oliver now, as he seems destined to go top 10. We have instead focused on Ah Chee, Burton, Milera and Rioli.

I personally have heard we are firming at Collins for our first.

Stoked on any of them as others have also said.

But I really like the idea of Collins.

Defensive class is rare and therfor valuable, which means we will have to pay for a Hen's dentist if we don't draft one and one of either Astbury or Elton don't come on.

The fact that he is a Tigers fan and has posters of Rance on his wall is just cream on top.

Add to the fact he is already a solid build and could be right to go from round 1. 94 kg already, so has the frame to come straight in.

straight into the best backline in the comp? dont think so....
we have already Yarran to be opposite flank to Houli with Chaplain
we have Rance Grimes and Vlastuin
unless he takes Chaplain spot straight away it's very unlikely he will play unless an injury
we also have Elton, Astbury Griffiths who can play tall and Batchelor, Hunt, Drummond, Conca looking in
we really lack a ruck but can't get one
we lack a small fwd but Edwards will cover
we lack more class in the midfield which we just need to draft

There are very very few KPs that just come straight in. Especially into a very good backline.

Astbury and Elton have next dibs on a spot. TBH I reckon Chappy is on his last legs. His footy brain is as good as ever, but he seemed a bit slower in 2015. He provides leadership and smarts to the backline. I reckon if Dave can get up and going Chappy might just be forced out in 2016.

BTW It's Chaplin
