Clarke will sell himself to the highest bidder this time next year as an uFA which should still work out favorably for Freo in terms of an extra pick.

Yeah but we won't be getting Luey then. I can only gather they think Moller will be ready to go [as in perform] in a year or so.

Someone on the mainboard said Bennell was staying at Mark Williams place at the moment. No sure how true.
Saw it coming , if you are midfield player you lower your eye got ridwolt , deleloi ( sorry for spelling , Vickery, Ben Griffen. Also can rest forward interchange with martin or crotchin all got the speed as well. Freo who pav ( maybe retire , maybe can get some one else in trade but like me not 100% can get him) Faye. Walters the people in freo said he must not spend time in midfield.

I wonder if the afl would entertain the idea of clubs holding picks until the next years draft.

Clubs would still need to take a minimum 3 picks, but could hold a pick until next year.

Ie. We bank our first pick this year and only use picks 2,3,4 ( hypothetical considering we are going to be big players this trade period).

We could then have 2 first round picks next year in a much stronger draft. Basically after the first 20 pics this year it's a bit of a gamble.

Would add another element to the trade period. I also think they should revert to the old father/son rule. Third round pick. If a club has been able to secure a kid via the rule due to the player committing to the club over a long time, that club should get them easier than this bidding system.

Nah, teams would save their picks for the better draft and who would be the real pick 9 say, that years or the one before

Don't want to be negative but....

- Cams negotiations will be tough and a very good chance it'll fall over

- the noise from Richmond Inc. pics on other threads make the bennell trade more unlikely by the day

- Eagles are still in the box seat for Jetta even if our interest has increased (likely due to bennell probability)

I'd like to be positive, McCarthy and bennell are the two I really want us to land, meh over Jetta

We really need to land a couple of decent fish - hard decisions will have to be made but if we aren't successful, we unfortunately will slide seriously next season

Maybe I'm just negative because of those 2 f'n teams playing tomorrow - couldn't think of anything worse

Nah you are being honest and realistic, would like your opinion that if Cant get the two where we should improve who you like to put more game into.

Tbh, I'm not sure.

I actually think even if we were to land both bennell + McCarthy we will be lucky to make the 6 next year, but contending again in 2-3 due to development.

Freo has always been about playing you're role, which means we can have that moneyball type of structure but we still need some extra class to have that difference when needed.

I believe Barlow has a year left, D.Pearce also (which will affect hills game should he leave) ballas maybe 2, same for mundy, Johnson, sandi, griff, Dawson.

Clancee, mz and Debeor wouldn't make any top 4 team

RTB should be the one with the first contract extension of 2016 - what he's been able to do minus the quality we've had minus what we have moving forward is second to none

So yeah, we really do need McCarthy + bennell, plus role players like shoenmskers, litherlands of the world

Tbh, I think we will be lucky to make the 8 next season. Opinion only!

Given the reported strength of next years draft, a dip for a season or two might not be the worst thing in the world. Might also serve as an incentive for Ross to try a new gameplan.

I know you hate him but will you give tab more oppotunity in afl even playing at the back as a spoiler.
I didn't mention Tabs or A.Pearce as I reckon they're almost certain to play. I don't hate Tabs per ce, but I have serious doubts on him ever making the grade. He might actually shine a bit more if he gets time as the prime target. He really disappointed with some of his lack of movement and non attempts at losing his man in the Port game where he was the number one guy though. If he works on his patterns (and actually moves rather than just standing still with a man on him in a crowded fwd line expecting the ball to be kicked to him), and learns how to take a mark, he could turn it around pretty quickly.

At least you give the guy a chance there is hope, would like him to play back a bit in peel game never known might be another Chris tarrant. Hope moeller and Hurley make a rapid progress this pre season.

Well Moller seemed, to me at least, to make terrific progress this year.
Hurley has shown a little bit as well.

Of course the McCarthy trade will be tough. If we want him,we'll have to pay.If we can get a pick inside the top 10,things will get real interesting.

Signing Jetta would be a scwabby like move.

We have many holes in our list around kpps, and we don't need another front runner holding out our good young kids.

What are we willing to pay ? Alex Pearce ? You would think the noise made by McCarthy manager would nearly make it untenable for him to return.
IMO GWS will either want a very high pick or a very high quality player, they need to make there list smaller so two or three middle road players won't work.
Prepare to be done over if McCarthy is the ultimate goal.

Picks 1-10 are actually called 'high' picks.
