If feels like since we drafted Pavlich we have not drafted a good key forward since. That's more than 15 years...

If the solution of getting a key forward by trading is not working then we should really consider our list manager and scouters roles. McCarthy was picked 12th, we could have easily traded to be in the top 10 to grab him before GWS do and we would have given up much less than we will now. And Hogan - not sure why we didn't go more aggressive on this one. GWS stated they wanted an established player (and probably a pick) for the right to draft him in the mini draft. Melbourne got away with murder on that one. Everyone knew he was going to be a gun eventually, needed to be more aggressive.

Let's stop trying to poach other teams key forwards as it has not worked at all over the past 5 years. We need to develop our own, but it starts with being in a position to draft the right one.
Sydney - Tippett, Buddy
Hawthorn - Gunston
West Coast - Josh Kennedy, Josh Hill, Cripps
Adelaide - Jenkins, Betts
Port - Schulz, Dixon
Bulldogs - Boyd, Crameri
Carlton - ?
Geelong - Mitch Clark, Lachie Henderson
Brisbane - ?
Richmond - ?
GWS - ?
Gold Coast - ?
North - Waite
Collingwood - White
Essendon - ?

Lots of teams have boosted their forward lines whether that be tall or short via trades.

Half those have being via free agency and not trades. Wouldn't count Betts, Hill or Cripps key forwards like I was referring to in my original post either.

I miss Adam Campbell.

Are you suggesting Harry McKay might fall to us?

Had to laugh at the photo of Darcy Parish on the website...Makes him look like an extra from a Chris Lilley comedy.
Not really. But Freo were looking at him from what I have heard (not sure how true.). Apparently, the clubs opinions on McKay are mixed, so he might be the sort of player that either goes higher than some think or lower than others think. So I guess he could get to us. Some phantom drafters had us taling Collins with 16 but not sure if he will still be available at 22.

If we're unable to get McCarthy (which is how it's looking atm), we're better off improving our drafting position instead of trading for some mediocre key forward/defender. Im not confident that there will be many good tall options when its our turn to draft.

Crowley had a role to play and he was the best at it, cant ask for anymore than that. He was unlucky to get suspended and delisted but hopefully he gets another go somewhere else.

Yep, and to add to this, let's take Hawthorn.

Gunston, Gibson, Hale, McEvoy, Frawley, Lake, Carlisle (?).

They basically haven't drafted any good talls except top 5 picks in Roughy and Buddy. Almost their entire tall brigade for 14/15 flags are imported.

It's so damn hard, and if nobody wants to move to play with us, it makes it that much harder. We've actually tried more than people think ... Houghton, Sibosado, Murphy, Polak, Kepler, Gumby, Anthony, all the offers to Clark, Riewoldt J, Cloke, Schultz, etc. ... It's just exceedingly difficult with our draft selections and lack of appeal as a destination club.

I wish Crowley the best in the future and took his side when it came to decision that was dealt upon him but what does he honestly think he could do at another club? By the time Round 1 of the 2016 season rolls around he would of been out of the game for 18 months and will be 32. The role he built him self around and into is basically irrelevant and even if he's recruited for it again does he honestly have the fitness and mindset to not only get back into the game but perform his role effectively? Best thing for him would of probably to have been kept on the list and made to play WAFL to see if he can break back into the B22

I would have liked to have seen him stay on but he might do a role at GC, Brisbane or even NM!

It's almost as if our elite culture could be a hinderance in this year's trade... would need a crowbar to get any decent player into a trade I reckon.
