No wonder Brisbane are in strife if they're paying a player like Leuenberger $600k.
It was 3 years ago when we had no other ruckman, there were fewer top class ruckmen in the AFL and we had to fend off GWS. Many clubs would have offered him $600K.

And it's not like we've been stretched in the salary cap department recently and he's still a quality ruckman when he can get on the park.

HAHA you need a new list manager or Brisbane back ended is contract for some reason.
Front ended.

Brisbane, like every other club, is required to pay 95% of the salary cap limit. They were only able to to do this by front ending contracts. Even then, the Lions will still be able to pay 105% of the cap this coming season, if they wish.

Colin Garland is a free agent at Melbourne, theres no reason why the club wouldn't have signed him on but another low Melbourne finish will most likely see him wanting out. 27 years old so still quite a few years left, anyone heard anything about him?

leuenberger is an injury prone average ruckman. wouldn't be worth anymore than 350k a year.

if i was looking for a ruckman i would look way past him
And get who? Kruezer? Another average at best ruckman. Or Zac Smith. Who is being kept out of the suns team by (cant remember the guys name).

Not having a go. But theres a lot of hate in this thread going lueys way thats unfounded. And i think its from people being worried he might get a decent paycheck and net us band one (dreaming i know).

Yep would much rather Kreuzer or Zac smith over leuenberger.
Much more upside than him

And yes you Brisbane supporters are dreaming if you think anyone is stupid enough to pay 500k plus for him to get you band one.

He will get 350k max, 2nd round compo

It's not hate, don't be a victim. Most people just don't think he's work $600k a season based on his history.

not sure why you're getting upset

It's not dislike, it's just that the general consensus is that he isn't worth $600k whereas many Brisbane fans thinks he is.

Essentially he is worth what anyone is prepared to pay him so there is still a chance that he can get a $600k a year salary

I've always liked Garland.
What sort of $$ would he command?

There was a rumor going around that GWS really want to the 1# pick off Carlton when they looked like finishing last until they beat Melbourne because they really want Wietering now Brisbane looks like finishing last do they still look at trading with Brisbane for pick 1#

Fare enough then. I think thats where most brissie fans are at in regards to what he could be worth to a team. If a team feels they are in there window and need a decent ruck then he is a chance of a good contract. Slim chance though.

No. They want Weitering so pick 2 will get him.

I don't think you'll find "many" Brisbane fans thinking he is worth $600k or getting anywhere near that, just that there's a chance he may if conditions and stars align - similar to yourself. Maybe if there's a bidding war between ruck-needy teams when there aren't any other similar rucks on the market, e.g. Kreuzer re-signing. I'd peg it at maybe 20% chance of happening at best.

Most of those talking up the pick 2 compo are either doing so from a "Frawley compo/priority pick" conspiracy theory rather than an expectation of the $600k pay day, or are just pointing out to those stating that it's impossible that Leuenberger could get the first round compo that actually it's not (also true).

Is this the worst article of the year?

Dream trade: Jaeger O'Meara. The gun young midfielder decides the surf coast suits more than the Gold Coast, and Geelong jumps at the chance for some more compensation for the loss of Gary Ablett. The Suns, desperate for experience, take Mathew Stokes, Steve Johnson, Tom Lonergan and Andrew Mackie as a package deal in return.

I know it's a "dream trade", but come on...

His chances of getting a band 1 comp type of salary are probably dependant on how desperate a club is for a #1 ruckman and how many there are on the market.

Definitely possible.

I don't think that's even the worst.

Dream trade: Jesse Hogan. Luring the young Demons star to Fremantle would be the coup to end all coups, but Melbourne would require something better than what Fremantle delivered to Hawthorn for Trent Croad and Luke McPharlin in 2001. The deal then was picks one, 20 and 37. The Dockers would need to deliver two first-round picks and a young, quality midfielder to even get the Demons to the table. Even then it should probably be knocked back.

With all these trades Players want to play finals and in good teams.

Ask yourself this would you want to go to..
  • Brisbane
  • Carlton
  • Essendon
  • GWS
  • Gold Coast
  • Melbourne :-(
Even North hawthorn and Geelong have a small window with an aging list and these players have agents that tell them this daily so places players want to go to are..

Collingwood
Bulldogs
Richmond

Harsh on the Cats, probably no other team can have their "window" transformed by a couple of decent players like the Cats can...
