Melbourne is better than Sydney in literally every way.
Most people love the city they live in, I have lived in Melbourne, Sydney, GC and Brisbane and they all have great things to offer.

BTW I think a few people would argue that Sydney harbour just nips Port Philip bay in the spectacular views department

I just wish the kids were a bit more honest. Boyd never wanted to come to Sydney but his ego wanted to be number 1 pick.

When I found out Wingard told us if you pick me I'll leave for nothing in 2 years initially I thought he was a punk but with time to reflect I respect it as he saved us a pick.

As you say though everyone is different.
Worked out pretty well for GWS though. You got Griffen and pick 6 for him. If we were trading 12 months earlier it wouldn't of been that much, probably just Griffen.

Yeah, everyone is different. For every bloke that wants to come home there's a Patton, Greene, Smith or Cameron who love it there. Besides Boyd you haven't lost any of your 'prized recruits'. And when you have you've gotten more than fair trades (Shaw and Griffen).

Lol. You must be a real expert then
I agree, it's like people saying the GC is a plastic soulless place having just viewed Surfers paradise, the surrounding areas down to the Tweed and back into the hinterland are spectacular. It's a bit like people visiting Foostcray and declaring Melbourne a drug riddled shit hole, it's small minded and says more about them than the place they are decrying

Couldn't agree more. Iv been to New York 6 times. If you asked me is say Sydney is better. Doesn't make it true. Funny reaction from my first post. Typical bigfooty argument: we have just replaced "player that plays for the team I support is better then an opposition supporters player, with city's lol

What about beaches?

What does Melbourne have that eclipses Bondi, Bronte, Tamarama and Clovelly in the eastern suburbs and Freshwater, Manly, Collaroy, Dee Why and Avalon in the north?

Another good thing about Sydney is that it doesn't have a churning inferiority complex.
Laughed at the last bit. So true.

You would have had Wingard instead of (i'm guessing) Buntine. Even if you traded him 2 years later that's going to be a win.

I understand that you don't want to foster an environment where people are up and leaving, but equally you don't want to have one where 17 year olds think they can dictate terms.

Drafting Boyd was always the right call.

Wingard would've been just another mid-fielder though. May not have gotten a game - who knows?

Midfielders are dime a dozen.

Hulking full forwards who are great kicks are as rare as rocking horse poo.
Not drafting Wingard, I'm happy to live with it. Drafting Boyd, even though we knew it was only ever going to be for 2 years (as it turned out, 1) was the only choice we could make.

Gubby got those 2 decisions spot on. Might have missed with O'Rourke and Plowman has been cursed with injury, but they are the swings to the roundabouts...

Used to live in Sydney and spent heaps of time in Melbourne.

Footy is awesome in Melbourne.

Traffic is shit in Sydney.

Apart from that Sydney shits over Melbourne. Catching the ferry to work is magical.
Sydney boring, plastic, expensive. Sure the beaches make it more attractive for those types, but it's a meatheads paradise. It's also hard to navigate and has awful cocktail bars and drinking spots..

You were on a roll.

Until you mentioned Newtown.

What a cess pit.
Not really, places like Padington are nice, but they are generally expensive. Newtown and surrounds are ok, especially if you are young. Or were until the last year or so. The lockouts are sending all the dickheads there

There's really only 2 suburbs worth living in. Balmain and Haberfield.

Balmain for the youngsters, pub on every corner, ferry, buses and cycle or even walk to the city...

Haberfield for the families. Close enough to the city bigger homes, no real good schools though.

Notable mentions to Concord and even Cronulla (only if you want to live 45 mins from the city)
