Honestly what is the point of this. there will be 14-17 clubs with picks in pre season draft ahead of us and what exactly will we give up for him - players 18-28 on our list ??
Heaps of no's already though!!- Dees, Essendon, GWS and clubs which cant due to current trades, Geelong, pies, port. I dunno i feel we have a shot, espeically if Goodes plays on next year and personally gives him a call (and Buddy).

What would you give up for Bennell?
A lot, he has exactly the skillset we don't have, especially when Jetta quits. I would instantly agree to involving any of the fringe players and NEAFL battlers mentioned here, if Gold Coast had any interest. 2016's first round pick could be a starting point. It really depends what the going rate is, but I would be willing to trade a best 22 player if needed

It's a huge risk to give up next years first rounder for him but I feel it's worth it. Okay the guy is a loose cannon but this could be the wake up call he needed.

Is he worth the possible first rounder we get for jetta and next years first rounder?

Jones? Cunningham? Rampe? Reid?

My initial thought with GCS is that they don't desperately need KPP. Lynch, Day, Thompson, May although they're losing Dixon so perhaps they'd go for one.

2016 first rounder, Lloyd, Bird would be my starting point. I know that isn't how you negotiate but behind closed doors, I'd be willing to part with that immediately if that would get the deal done. Further pick swaps or player swaps I'd be happy to get into too. Bennell is that much of a gun if you can sort his head out. It's almost certain to not happen for us because other clubs can give up more and we still might actually be restricted, but it's still fun to consider.

Getting f'd over big time by the AFL.

I've been asking people around the traps (make good connections with my weekday job) and here is what I know:

Swans are 100% after Leuy.
Swans are interested in Bennell. Swans think Franklin/Goodes (if he goes on) can whip him into line. Bennell will replace Jetta.
Bird would be involved in that trade to the Gold Coast. GC looking for mature bodies and Bird is one of them.

Bennell is an interesting one. The trade restrictions are still hanging over us, but Gold Coast will pay more than half of his 500-600k contract, which means we only have to pay 250-300k over the next 2 years if we get him. Could this be a loophole in our current trade restrictions as we technically aren't paying more than that 350k?
Are your sources close enough to the insider though? I know lots of people who follow the game and can tell me lots of rumours.

I'd like to think that you're right. I believe that we are the club that can straighten him out. We have a history of this. When was the last time there was a headline where a Swan did something negative outside of football? You would probably have to to go back to the Micky O rape allegations of the early 90's or something Capper did with Leanne when he was with us.

Of course this is only applicable if he wants to be straightened out. Some players simply aren't prepared to commit to the demands of AFL (i.e. Dayle Garlett, Brendan Fevola, etc.).

If we do look at him we will need to be certain that;
1) he is desperate enough to play the game,
2) he is willing and able to comply with the clubs rules, and
3) we have someone who could be a father figure to him and take him under their wing (i.e. Goodsey would be ideal but he may not want to spend next year babysitting).

Mills = 2016 1st round + 2015 2nd round
Dunkley = 2015 1st round + 2015 3rd round
McGovern = Jetta
Bennell = Bird
Luey = FA

If not McGovern, then we use the 1st rounder to get a defender.

Now that it's looking like the AFL is going to increase the wage threshold for incoming players, we can probably re-consider Carlisle again. He would be a perfect for us and us for him. Too expensive maybe? Discuss..........
Unlikely unless it's a 1st round pick as Essendon are notoriously difficult to trade with. Hence, either Jetta for McGovern, or Jetta for 1st round used to get Schoenmakers or Carlisle. People are so thick sometimes...

I accept jetta is gone but your baseless obssession witu McGovern is just stupid
It isn't a baseless obsession and to be honest I couldn't give 2 ****s if we did or didn't get him. Fortunately we have something that WCE wants and WCE have something we want.

A few have suggested Sinclair or Lycett (no thanks) but if we can't trade player for player the club would be better off using that pick elsewhere, to either get Lobbe if we can't get Leuy, or to bring in a defender from another club.

Yes

Jetta is gone deal with it

There aren't a lot of options available this year, not like last year
Carlisle isnt a rfa.
Jetta is no where near worth McGovern although I'm more than happy to accept the trade.

The trade ban may get lifted but money will still be tight at swans especially if leunberger joins as free agent.

I agree with most of what your saying but there is no way in this world or the next WC will let mcgovern go. Have yoy heard to the contrary?

It's either player for player, or 1st round pick. Either way we're going to get value out of Jetta. Whether it's McGovern or not, who knows.
