Poster on main board claims we are very interested in lindsay thomas?? Doubt he would come for 350k but id be interested in that
Ballentyne thread

Also the north list management thread is rife with thomas to sydney. Some suggesting he would take pay cut to escape footy media
Master Troll by Horse... Picks Rohan just ahead of Thomas (emg) every week for the rest of Lindsays career???

Every chance mzungu gets delisted, wpuld be a good pickup to replace shaw
No chance and has another year on his contract, most on our board are surprised he's not in, RTB puts it down to early season injury and is behind others. Mz IMO is a gun.
We got plenty rucks and doing ok for backs but a KPF is required. Buddy would be nice but I no it's impossible. I've always like Reid.

From what I can understand and what the article above says is that we can trade in players on less than $340,000 or less. Would it be possible if a player is out of contract that we offered them $300,000 for next year and then $500,000 or whatever is necessary for the rest of their contract? E.g. someone like Jake Carlise is out of contract at the end of this yeah correct? would that be possible?

Yer thats been brought up a few times around here and the answer has been i very much doubt it.

The condition is probably layed out as per payments cannot exceed $340,000 for any year of the remaining contract.

I Thought that would be the case. Do you think players would be willing to take a 1 year deal. E.g. if Swans said to Carlisle we will give you a 1 year deal for $340,000 but then once the trade ban is lifted give you $750,000 a year for 4 years or whatever he demands.

That's a very risky option to take for a player. Carlisle, your example, could take the 1 year at a reduced rate and blow his knee out in round 1. That would put him in a very weak position to negotiate a new contract. And the club wouldn't guarantee that they'll give him whatever he wants when his 1 year deal is up anyway (Lance Franklin deal aside).

Just a very risky proposition for all involved.

No player would do that as Football is unknown what if Carlisle does a knee and is out for the year? do you still think we would give him 750k per 4 years?

Not a chance.

No because it would be seem as tampering with the draft process and bang we lose draft picks. Side deals and promises are breaches as we saw with Tippett

The frustrating thing is that the swans or afl have not come out and said exactly what the rules are or why.

As a supporter I want my team to win a flag. I want to know if my club can bring player x in for $340,000ish in the first year and bump it up in the second so we can actually have a decent ruck and defender.

Its pretty simple, the 340k is a cut off point for all years offered on a contract, not just the first year. Its designed to prevent any backloading beyond $340k otherwise what is the point of the AFL giving us this stupid ban if we could backload in the second year (and beyond) over $340k? Its simple to understand and easy to see why we aren't going to get any decent players into this club via trade or free agency this year.

I think we can definitely get decent players, it just takes good recruitment.

I expect Taylor Hunt (DFA), Jeff Garlett (pick 61), Jeremy Laidler (DFA), Luke Delaney (pick 77), Matthew Spangher (pick upgrade) etc were on pretty average money. That isn't counting the ability to take players in the draft, such as rookies Jon Ceglar, Callum Sinclair, Sam and Jack Frost.

What do you guys think about Henry Schade from the suns? Developing KPD 196cm 88kg. Still a bit light but has played a few games this year. Out of contract at seasons end.

If all parties were good for a trade what would be fair compo?

I don't think we need a developing KPD. We already have developing KPD's. We need a KPD who can play next year and hopefully the year after until our youngsters can take over.

Yes he is developing at the suns. But after this season it will be 5 years on a list with a handful of games. Stuck behind the other KPDs there and only got his chance during injuries. Could be worth a look for a low price.
