Analysis 2015 Forward structure

Just far too many questions to be asked at this stage.

Any injuries to our tall backmen will probably see Henderson playing down back. Jaksch doesn't look ready for the older tall forwards of the comp (but may prove me wrong if he can play smart) and Watson hasn't shown a great deal at doing this job either.

Henderson does look like being our main forward, probably a CHF as he's not a great mark under body pressure but is a good leading forward with great endurance, agility and skills.

Jones will probably play full forward. He's a fairly big powerful guy, overhead marking could be better, in the past probably hasn't had the endurance to play CHF, seems like a fit close to goal.

Casboult is big and strong with good hands but kicking, agility and getting out marked at times is an issue for him to get around. Does the forward/ruck role very well. At this stage I'd have him in the forward pocket as usual. Low goal numbers are an issue.

Kreuzer is often talked about as being pushed as a forward, so far in his career, apart from the odd game, he hasn't shown a lot in this role, but a good preseason of training for it might make the difference and if he goes well he could push Casboult out of the side. Unless Casboult is kicking goals.

Watson impressed in the VFL at the end of last season and managed to kick 4 goals often in a very very weak side then did the same in the last round of the AFL. Good kicking and seeming an ability to find the goals makes him look a possible forward option.

Foster looks like he can play and has a good build but will play mostly VFL and I bet will kick the odd bag too but probably wont play AFL.

Smaller guys, well we lacked pressure at ground level last year and speed and genuine crumbers.

Tutt has been brought in for that. Thomas should be fitter and better. Walker is more a medium forward but could be very dangerous up forward. Yarran would be good up forward but may play back though players have been recruited who may release him as well and then again maybe DVR, Smith and especially Boekhorst may play a role up forward. Menzel will kick plenty next season barring injury.

Will be plenty of competition, especially with the tall forwards.

There is a huge amount of unknowns at Carlton next season, makes it really hard predicting anything like this.

I hope we can be one of those teams that hurts others on the break this season, something I feel is a real momentum swinger in games and is so important to the outcome.

A few drilled passes head high over 50, some electric pace breaking into the forward line and slotting it home from 40m on the run; man what it would feel like to see the boys with some actual confidence in the game plan and their skills this year. Any time we hit that last season, the moment felt so fleeting.

Full agility is back and his side stepping is elite.

Looking forward to full ground drills and the intra-clubs.
No doubt that Thomas will shine.

Exciting stuff!!!

In modern day AFL coaches often talk about what to do with their +1 and whether to use them as an extra midfielder or a loose man in defence. Some players might start at the corner of the centre square before they run in with the other mids but these days teams never use six forwards. Something to think about when naming your forwards here.

Love when the Blues aren't going to well in a game and seeing no forwards at all.

I guess we just put down the six we'd expect to see on a team sheet and the players that are more adept at kicking goals may have the bragging rights to be put on the forward line. :)

Of course all mids should be kicking goals but some are just better at it than others.

Got quite a few who go alright at this. Probably Bell's best position. Walker, Thomas and Docherty perhaps. Then you have the half back who plays high, Ideally Yarran or Simpson.

Cant kick, takes a specky but wow, runs when he can be bothered, otherwise injured!!! But he might come good... after hes 30!! And hes decision making...OMG

Can't kick?
He was our leading goal kicker in 2011. We'd love another 50 goals from him.

And he's 28.

So did garlett, wheres he?? Btw he plays off hb if you havent noticed, field kicking and kicking for goals are two diff things...

I had noticed, hence why his goal kicking totals have reduced dramatically. But the coaches have said that he'll be returning to the forward line this year if you haven't noticed.

And what does Garlett have to do with anything?

As a 'newly' registered poster, I strongly suggest you familiarise yourself with our Board rules & quality posting policy:-

This paragraph in particular in this instance:-

* Name calling and abuse towards players, re their skills, position in the team, what kind of vegetable they remind you of, parentage etc. If you dislike a player in terms of the way they play, it is easy enough to articulate that in a more constructive way.

Well you were defending a guy that has kicked 50, so did garlett, doesnt make him good... Really cant see any room for him in the fwd line!!! Nor the backline for that matter, Just turns it over at the worst times!!

Garlett WAS a good player for us up until 2014, when personal issues took over. He is not automatically a dud just because he no longer wears a Carlton guernsey.

Mick Malthouse, multiple premiership coach, CAN see room for Walker in the forward line. For him AND his 56 goals. You haven't actually given any examples of him being a hack kick, just repeated your opinion.

Got anything to back that opinion up with?
