The addition of Cowan, Bates and Thurlow playing VFL will make our side stronger as they get more game time and match fitness.

if they are playing in the finals along side JJ, Hmac, Smedts, Kolo, Blease, Gore, Gregson, Vardy, Kersten, Luxford, Toohey and Cunico (and hopefully not but is still on the cards right now - Walker and Hartman) - with a few good established VFL top up players - looks a pretty good side to me.

Its got size, strength and leg speed - and maybe enough experience to do well this season IMO.

Some pretty decent ingredients that make up modern footy, at least at VFL level, in the mix with all these players involved (and a quite a few are second or third season players).

If we do not get injuries and generally have a pretty big list available - I am pretty hopeful by the end of the season we will have a strong competitive side in play.

I was lucky enough to play with an Ebert who captained Morningside in the late 70's. He was skipper….and an absolute inspiration…I can tell you he had a big impact on my development. He led the team….he pulled us together before games and when we weren't traveling so well…and focussed us on the task….and he gave everything every week.

IT suggests to me that the team doesn't have an "Ebert" in their ranks, so they rotate the task.

Surely there's someone who stands out as a leader..leadership and authority, especially for younger players, plays a role in development IMO.

If its needed for development appoint one, if not then do or dont...

Never been a fan of this idea….

Maybe I am just old fashioned.
Problem is if nearly every AFL listed player is available at once then there's a possibilty a couple of those players might not get a VFL game on certain weekends. Now it would be rare but I do remember it happening at Geelong a few years back where I think only 2 listed players didn't play AFL or VFL that weekend [one was because he was an emergency for the AFL].

The 4 named are all experienced VFL/SANFL players.

hopefully the 4 players in the leadership team won't take too much notice of the title of "Captain" in itself, and will all act like captains of the team each and every week- as well as at training, with the nominated captain's weekly role being important only for duties such as the coin toss and signing off on the team sheet, if those are the captain's duties at this level.

Well we won and it sounds like we have a decent team even though we have a lot of injuries and we were missing a few - asked to play in the seniors. Kolo looks like he may also get a call up some time soon.

Gore sounds interesting as well.

Hope Hartman is back soon - as he is at least very good at VFL level and will add to the side IMO.

What don't I know ? (I assume the implication is that he will be a long time away).

I think there is a thought that if we see him playing AFL again it will be in different colours. S Hocking said something pre match on KRock on Sunday but on half heard him....any hear it?

That narrows it down to 2 clubs

Hartman for Danger or Hartman for Boak.
Sounds like fair deals doesn't it ? ;)

Well the VFL team will not see Hartman again and that weakens the side a bit.

With so many injuries in the firsts it is taking players away from the VFL team. Apparently from reports we looked a bit like the walking wounded yesterday BUT we WON again. Two from two. So a good start from the boys - keep it going.

Surely we will get stronger when players drop back to the VFL when Stokes and Mackie come back to the seniors. And later when Bartel also comes back.

Not sure but you would also suspect Clark and Stanley to come back sooner rather than later. This means maybe 2-3 good young players might be in the VFL next week or the week after. I am liking the odds of 8-1 still regardless of the Hartman loss and current injuries.

Wait until Menzel comes back and Cowan gets fit. Then we are in business I reckon.
