you must think Langford will become an A grade mid too ;):D
I've always thought Guthrie would become a top level mid.
Go look at posts from over 2 years ago.

In fact Bulletproof will back that up.

Langford might. It depends where they settle him.
Going to be very important for them though.

Very, very simple answer from me at least.

I would not give up Guthrie for anything, and I have seen very little evidence that Menzel is going to be any better. It's nothing but speculation, partly fuelled I suspect by wishful thinking about how good his brother might have been.
Guthrie may not have the pick pedigree that Tenzel had and Wells certainly would have taken Tenzel if he was avaulae to us.
Fast forward guthrie's into under 50 games or so and Wells is grinning like a Cheshire Cat. Guthrie has the runs on the board of a top 10 pick this far. And he is getting better. Can play multiple roles and positions and is 21.
Not saying Tenzel is no good but he is not as proven as Guthrie is now.
For mine, Guthrie is untouchable.
Our rd1 and some steak knives for Tenzel is probably too much in our favour bit guthrie and rd1 is absurd.
Tenzel had a 2 touch game 6 weeks ago.

Walker & Casboult together should be enough to drive any Carlton fan insane. Both can mark, but if they're having a set-shot 30 metres out in front you'd be best to duck if you're sitting in the forward pocket seats.
10 Goal 1 from his last 11 shots at AFL level for Josh Walker, yep how shit is that.

If you had to list, in order of preference, every player at Geelong to take a shot on goal after the siren to win you a game? Where would you have him?
A fair way down but 10 goals 1 from his last 11 says there is something to work with, especially a 21 year old tall with a sound body a big tank,if we don't want him he will be snapped up else where, your call keep him or let him go at the end of the year?

The Carlton board seem to think that Wells rates Troy as a #1 pick and therefore any potential trade needs to reflect this. Does anybody actually have any proof of this statement?

The closest thing I could find was an SEN interview with Wells after the draft in which he was asked something along the lines of "if you could have anyone else from this draft who would you choose?" to which Wells responded "Menzel". I would read that in the context being 'who would you prefer to have taken with your pick if they were available', and Wells' response is no secret given we were into Menzel pre-draft.

In the end it comes down to interpretation but I think it would be somewhat dishonest to claim Wells stated Menzel is worth pick #1 based solely on that conversation.
I did hear the interview at the time and remember distinctly interpreting that Carlton had just picked up the "#1 draft pick according to Wells". I have commented on this somewhere this year, maybe this thread, but time does have a way of mingling with what appeared to be facts.

Oh FFS, not this Menzel shit again. And Guthrie as a trade being mentioned in the same breath??? I'm outta here.
CE , it seems to have started on the Carlton Rumour board. Our R2 and Duncan, Guthire or GHS. Cant see that happening. Untill its more than a rumour id rather think about players that are gettable. Anyone seeing Membury tonight for the Swans?

Absolutely, he's already shown he could be one of the best small defenders in the league if he satyed there, possibly a gun mid and doesn't have the injury cloud (knee issues) over him. Would be a negligent trade IMO.

Couldn't agree more. Guthrie can play a lock down role in defence against those small forwards that have plagued us for years. He is also developing into a nice tagger with some offensive qualities. Hopefully he becomes a quality mid from here.

Definitely untouchable for mine.

If Menzel does want to come to Geelong it's for a round 1 pick and a spud on our list, nothing more.
Heres an interesting thought given that our Rd1 is being discussed.
Would we rather see our Rd1 go to WC for Selwood or to Carlton as part of package for Tenzel.

Id almost rather see Selwood for the inside help rather than the excitement and skills of Tenzel.

Not that either are really likely but we only have 1 x Rd1 pick and these are 2 choices potentially ( albeit small) available to us…

Workhorse vs flair.

I'll go selwood too, maybe the knee factor directed me.

That's putting the ball in his court, and it's not as if we've got a cupboard full of his like. Any others are lightweights or smaller, apart from Hawkins.
It would probably be to his advantage to go elsewhere like Podsiadly did last year, but we would be further compromised by our lack of tall options if so.
We just don't do well recruiting big guys, maybe it's the clubs pro midfield culture since Ablett Jnr days.
