Well what is a guy that was pick #4 in 2012 that has done nothing - literally - worth at the end of 2014.

We all admit Mitch Brown would not get us anything higher than 60 ( probably worth more for mine but whatever). He was pick #15 and has done the same degree of nothing. Been hurt, as has Toumpas and now passed by others - as has Toumpas.

Bags of chips deals are stupid. I get that. But where is the value in him now then?

Agree with vinum coupe on this one dazbroncos.

Not too sure what value Melbourne would see in Hunt to be honest.

Hunt's stats pretty much mirror Toumpas.

And Toumpas, most would think, has more upside considering he was a high selection and has only been in the system for 2 injury interrupted seasons.

Hunt doesn't really give Melbourne anything other than a more hardened body (which might interest them but probably not for a player like Toumpas).

With Toumpas under contract until 2015 I reckon the Dees would stick by him for at least one more year unless a very good offer came down the pipe.

The club's men in black have nobbled them all, mate, it's a conspiracy.
Ha ha!....must be, the world's full of conspiracies these days, and better not say "black" either! you could cop a 2 week ban for that, remember big bro is watching so choose your words carefully. :D

very interesting prospect. I haven't seen much of him so others in here will tell you more but from the games I have watched, he's been impressive. He doesn't look like a footballer either, 1st year so I guess he'll tone up in the coming years but he's tall and highly skilled. Definitely one to watch.
Sounds a bit like a project? Then in that case a very interesting prospect. I just have this urge type feeling that he will make it and I hope he does

Im a fan of both Bourke and Toohey. Both big, tall, strong and young. Both have good skills and reading of the play. Still growing into their bodies in the game a bit so not expecting too much too soon but from what I've seen I've liked. seen them at both ends of the ground and doing well. Would have Tohey a bit in front of Bourke atm but i could see both of them making it the full 3 years on the rookie list and then going up.

Does anyone rate Nick Bourke? I like him but I don't know much about him.
I look for his name all the time, seems to be progressing well, Footywire have him now at 191cm so much like Joel Corey to me.
Would be a diamond find for Stephen Wells if he turned out to be half the player, I'm on board early for this rookie.

Yeah Bourke has looked fairly polished for a rookie from what I've seen, performed fairly solidly without 'standing out'. Hopefully with another preseason and body development he can start to dominate some VFL games.

Agree that the bit parts would not get Toumpas. I think kid can play too but has just had a Barry Crocker of a time and now is dealing with being passed by the newer recruits.
To be fair on Jon Douglas he did state he didn't think his fringe players + 3rd Rounder would get a deal done for Toumpas.

I just find it amusing that guys who can't get a gig all year suddenly become valuable pawns in landing some (potential) star player or good pick come trade time.

If we, as Geelong supporters, are more than happy to trade out a player there is every chance an opposition club won't rate them too highly.

One of the best things I ever saw posted with regards to trades was from a Port supporter who opinioned that a player's value could be found by asking a supporter from each club what they would give up/accept.

The player's value then fell right in the middle of the two opinions. :D

Not too bad a rule of thumb I reckon.

So we are the moneyball champions.

Relative to their spending, the AFL teams that did best were Geelong (which won 28 more games than its expenditure would predict), St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs (both with 16 more games than their spending would predict
We won 99 games between 08-12. We actually won 37 more than our expenditure would predict not 28 like the article says and only spent 62 million.
While Collingwood won 80 games in that time and spent 103 million.

We are just great. Dunno where to have posted this

I really thought he'd have cemented a place for himself in the team by mid year...
I saw him in a VFL game at K'Park earlier in the year and he was dreadful. Before he suffered the broken collar bone he was playing quite well at AFL level. He was tagging (annoyed the hell out of Mitchell) and hurting teams the other way with goals. He is just down on confidence/form but he is unlikely to make it back to AFL level this year.

That's a real shame, rabbi. Thanks for your view. I'm so disappointed for the young bloke. It's his 6th year in the system- was drafted with Brown, Gillies and Motlop- so he should've made a name for himself by now.
