Nah, Bobby- just poo and wee germs. They can be washed off... eventually ;)
in that case, not the slightest bit interested ;)

but seriously, if we were interested in going after Lowden, we should never have got rid off West in the first place.
May as well draft a youngling in an up coming draft (which am sure Wells has been eying for a while now) as Simpson and McIntosh will be good for another couple of seasons before retirement sees one leave. Plenty of time for some development for an 18yr old ruck in the meantime.

how long before rucks become better than average, Bobby? I would've thought they'd be needing 4-6 years to develop.

your spot on! I agree, usually takes big blokes a lot longer to get it all together but Simpson would be in his prime 27/28 (ruckman-wise) and maybe we'd be able to cope a little easier as Blake/West did with Ottens when they first debuted all those years ago.
The only thing missing here with Simpson (at age 25, actually- even better!!) is that he doesn't have the games experience that many other ruckman would have at his age, due to injury. We need to get him through the next 12 months injury-free (*with regards to his back, I mean), gradually increasing his work load. I understand that both he and HMac, when they're not injured of course, have been hitting the track really hard when they have the weeks off from the senior game. That's a great plan- all of the fitness, etc., without the bruising and bone-jarring that goes with playing the game each week. So their bodies will be getting preserved better than if they were playing every weekend

And he's played all of 24 games. There were good signs last year- I'd give him another 12 months and see what he offers before putting him out on the scrap heap

Time to look elsewhere for a ruck. They obvious do not rate Simpson. Ay his age , If its not happening , is it likely to happen?
Huh? Did great on Goldstein last week I thought. Chris Scott made it extremely clear at the start of the year that the pair of #1 rucks would be heavily managed through the season.

No point putting the time and effort into developing a ruck when you can get good rucks cheap when they don't get game time at clubs with too many. Jacobs, Maric, Mumford and McIntosh have all gone cheap recently due to being squeezed out at their previous clubs. Just get a mature ruck via trade or free agency. I'll really enjoy watching one of Witts and Grundy walk via free agency when they're not getting games after Collingwood have taken a massive on field hit to develop them.

that's what I took the omission to be this weekend as merely player management. They are really making sure they are there in time for September.

What? He's probably behind McIntosh but not by much. He's also got a lot of improvement yet and the club is being really good getting games into him while keeping McIntoxh match fit. I'd say McIntosh this year and Simpson to be breathing down his neck next year and number 1 after that.

How many games in a row was that? Managed ...he need a rest?
Both Simpson and McIntosh have a terrible injury history. What I took from his comments pre season was that the pair would literally play half the season each, with the better performing of the two getting the nod for the finals series in tip-top condition. Is that not exactly what's happening?

While has hasn't had much experience at AFL level, two weeks ago he notched up 100 games at AFL and VFL level. He just needs to have a few injury free pre-season in row, I doubt if he has ever done a full pre-season before.

What's the general consensus on the board at the moment? Which of Cowan, Stringer, Schroder, Burbury, Brown, Walker, Hunt etc. do we think will be gone at the end of the year?
If I had to pick 2.

Actually, I can't pick 2.
Cowan 'should' be gone
Brown and Hunt will walk.

Stringer will stay as depth. Schroder and Burbury will stay to develop.

Hunt will elect to leave (he would be a best 22 starter at some lower clubs).brown delisted.cowan to rookie list.walker will stay with brown gone and they rate burbs so he will stay.

Stringer and schroder are 50/50 depending in how many list spots we need to clear

Hunt won't walk, he'll be staying. 23yr old who has been asked to work on specific areas of his game in the magoo's. Get another pre season into him and it's what we will need given his age profile heading forward.
What we think we need - does not mean the player wants to stay, he'd be well within his rights to walk.
