Jack Hombsch (hip), Hamish Hartlett (ankle) and Angus Monfries (foot) will also have surgery that will keep them off their feet for a period of time, however Power head of high performance Darren Burgess says all should be fine to resume pre-season training in November.

“It’s just the wear and tear of the season and Jack Hombsch probably has the longest rehab of the lot – he’ll be out for 4-6 weeks,” Burgess told portadelaidefc.com.au. “Boaky had his done today, that went fine, and the rest will happen over the coming days.”

Jared Polec 4 weeks woohoo. Fingers crossed.

A few things:

Wingard bone bruising my ass. That's a significant injury. He hurt it over a month ago.

Carliles hip must be horrendous, he's been out for half the season, the off season and another 4 weeks.

Polec 4 weeks is exciting stuff.

Hopefully these extended layoffs from full training don't affect our fitness too much, atleast we should have a few fresh legs.

Healing time is the time in which an evidence of a bone bruise disappears from an MR image. The healing time for most bone bruises in the knee is about 2 months but can be as long as 2 years

I just got instantly sad - Hombsch is a real shock :(

Can confirm this. Got bone bruising after a fall down some stairs and badly twisting my knee. Sportsmed doc said my twisty tendons avoided a very serious injury. Only now two months later has the knee pain started to subside.

There are too many times we have been given an optimistic time of return only for it to blow out. At least we're nowhere near the season yet and hopefully Hombsch will not lose much from his performance due to a reduced pre-season. Looks like it may be just as well that we got Toumpas; if Hombsch is unavailable for the start of the season he may have to slot somewhere in the back 6. But the main worry would be Carlile. This latest news from Port doesn't give me confidence that he'll have shaken his injuries by the time the season starts.

A lot of hip injuries there.
Are any of them what used to be called OP? As in from too much work?

Is this the same story we got fed as last year with wingard which started at 3-4 weeks but ended up being closer to 3 months on restricted training before the season started?

Chad was in the match sims @ open training last week and all the rest were doing plenty of running at least. The only one I don't remember seeing was JH. Was impressed how fit Polec was looking. I reckon the club is being conservative with the estimates.

Last year was a debacle for rushing players / pushing players in season - Polec, along with White playing clearly injured early to try and get some speed out there with Polec out / restricted. Carlile after his first injury came back and had the turning circle of the Queen Mary and him trying to reach anything on the ground was like watching a slow motion replay. Recruiting in Toumpas, games into Amon and Clurey should see the club not rush back / push anyone this year. Along with a much easier start.

perhaps an aversion to PST
