Aggressive trading from our perspective would be something like,

2015 no1 pick > Treloar
Yarran > Lennon
Henderson pick > Tomlinson, Plowman
2016 1st, Tom Bell > Aish, Mayes
3rd Round 2015 > Kerridge
Casboult > Henry Schade, 3rd round (Kerridge)

What this gives us is 8 players that should have an immediate impact and possibly have us in finals contention in 2016. We give up a lot but we get quality in return. This puts us in the position to realistically bring in free agents that can plug any holes that may be identified

Plowman Jamison Simpson
Docherty Rowe Tuohy

Aish Cripps Boekhorst
Kruezer Murphy Treloar

Gibbs Tomlinson Mayes
Menzel Everitt Jaksch

Thomas, Graham, Lennon, Schade, Curnow, White

if casboult goes i reckon he could be valuable as a fwd/ruck with kruezer. Can create a contest and gives us flexibility. bit of a leigh brown type. no where near a gun but can play a role whilst some youngsters develop
He's an ordinary fwd/ruck. Casboult is way better in both departments.

To get rid of last real key forward would be the height or stupidity. A midfielder is not going to replace a key forward, think anyone with any intelligence knows that A pick in the low 20's is unlikely to to give us what Casboult offers. He's not Buddy but is quite capable of kicking 40-50 with better delivery. Averaged 1.5 a game this year while spending alot of time in ruck as our 3rd tall, 2nd ruck, especially during the first half of the 16 games he played, while Jones and Henderson filled the key positions. Averaged 2 during the second half of those games. Stupid to keep ourselves key forward positionless. Just adds time to a rebuild. Mids might come up in a couple of years but a young tall KP forwards will take double that. Always best to build around a spine as we did in 2006/7. We were playing finals 2 years later.

Sh*t spine is sh*t.

Like the balls-out approach though!

Carlisle in the PSD might make me feel better about it :)

richmond should do this:

trade 12 for yarran 38 and 57 (then on trade 38 and 57 to gws for townsead and 45) (trade astbury 31 and 45 for 17) they win all them

then trade we trade bell for 31 and 45 from brisbane

we end up with
1,12,20,31,45

trade 20 and 31 for tomlinson, plowman, etc

1 and 12 in draft, 45 for SOS 2

Would be a positive headline...

"Blues Send Warnock Away for Nothing".

Carlton today made another move to improve their list for 2016 and beyond by trading Robert Warnock for absolutely nothing.

"We really feel nothing has the upside and ability to contribute consistently that we need," Andrew McKay said.

Statistically Warnock and nothing are very similar, with Warnock holding a significant lead in hitouts but otherwise the two are all but indistinguishable. Factoring in the difference in salary between Warnock and nothing, the move makes total sense from the Blues' point of view.

Incoming coach Brendon Bolton also endorsed the move.

"I'm just getting to know all the guys, but I do have ideas and impressions formed from afar, and in my view I'd be more excited about working with nothing than Warnock."

Etc.
Liked for hilarity. Unliked for harshness.

Can people move on from entertaining thoughts of us getting Treloar ?

There's hope and optimism, and then there's clinging to breadcrumbs from Fantasy Island.

And i certainly wouldn't give up pick 1 for him, that's just madness and irresponsible list Management

Spine is shit, but gives us an opportunity to have a list capable of topping up through FA.

Pluck 1 quality key tall from the next two off seasons, and that side is in the mix for 2017
Key forwards are very hard to get, even with free agency, and take 4 years to develop from the draft, with guarantees.

Richmond quote from AFL.com

Smart, dumb or just pissing into the wind?

"Richmond is "very reluctant" to let contracted defender David Astbury leave, but says it could happen to help the Tigers open up other trade options."

We should have been proactive and announced the same about Warnock. Might have helped get a nibble.....Not!

And only a strong ruck division, 2 key forwards, some dangerous mid-size options and 2 key defenders away from really getting somewhere!
That's why I advocate trading picks and players to get what we need into the club.

Say we get Kieran Collins with pick 20, Phillips as a ruck for a trade with Warnock and use our PSD pick to get Carlisle.

Now we only need to find 1 forward

Plowman Jamison Simpson
Docherty Collins Tuohy

Aish Cripps Boekhorst
Kruezer Murphy Treloar

Gibbs Tomlinson Mayes
Menzel Everitt Jaksch

Carlisle, Rowe, Thomas, Graham, Lennon, Schade, Curnow, White, Phillips, walker, whiley, buckley, byrne, sheehan

Making assumptions....

Touhy Jammo, Weitering
Docherty Plowman Simmo
Curnow Cripps Graham
Everitt Jaksch Menzel
Buckley Casboult Tomlinson (bigger assumption again)

Kreuzer Murphy Gibbs

I/c from Walker, Thomas, Boekhorst, Holman, Sheehan, Byrne, Armfield, Wood, Sumner, Whiley.

Reasonable enough on paper but I was stretching to get on the bench there, so depth is a huge problem. Definitely need no injuries. No guarantees on the GWS players either, especially Tomlinson, until they are here. I made some big assumptions just to get to that. Key looking at that is Casboult must stay. Tomlinson isn't that big and is a 3rd tall, and runs through the midfield at times.

This rebuild does not happen in one or even two off-seasons. And many guys who aren't good enough does not equal one or two guys who are.
I'm proposing that there are possible ways to rebuild in 2 off seasons. All the trade suggestions I put forward seem pretty do-able, with possible tweaks here and there.

Not sure the Northern Blues have enough inside 50s for Rowe to kick that many..
40 Balls? Great, so that might translate to... 8 goals?
in the Northern Blues....
Realistically, he should be delisted. Was horrendous this year.
PREPARE FOR EGG ON THINE FACES! :D

I do think that rather than getting a Walker or something with a late pick, might as well use Rowe where he has played his whole career before we sent him back. Weitering and Jamison should be enough down back, and have Rowe and Cas as the two big forwards.

His forward work is underrated, not that think he is Hawkins in waiting. Could be a valuable contributor until the next KPF draftee comes along.

The question is whether it's the best way to rebuild, I suppose.

If we spend two years loading up on 20-23 year olds, having just burned our top pick last year on doing the same, then we're going 3+ years without drafting any top quality young kids. So in 5 years time we're in the same position we are now - too many old blokes, not enough young blokes, and other clubs having had access to the better kids in each of those drafts.

walga I'm probably going to stop through and watch it happen before disappearing to the city for work. Could be interesting. Need to get some sort of BigFooty Blues consensus on something to scream out when we select Weitering so that everyone watching Fox Footy hears it. I'm thinking:

This is defiantly a risk, as we have seen at Melbourne, they have traded in quality players but at the wrong end of their career. So what will happen essentially is their young players peak after their older recruits have retired.

When we are talking about recruiting 22 year olds, I personally cant see the risk. I think we are in the position where bringing in 8 quality young players that can have an impact next year is better than bringing in 8 hopefuls that might have an impact in 2-4 seasons
