Pretty concise info there, Bruce. What gives?
I get to see a fair few Power games here and keep an eye on their list. Shaw was rated highly, just suffered from a few injuries at the wrong time. Came close to a debut in 2014, but with the arrival of Ryder and now Dixon, the re-signing of Schulz and Butcher, Port have enough key forwards to choose from. We on the other hand....

Yep.
I think he is overrated.
I put him the category of the Yarrans and Hendersons who do not want to play a full game of footy for the jumper. Maybe that's because of his age, inexperience, injuries but he has had enough time to show much more. I wouldnt mind keeping him to see if he develops further, but certainly not concerned about losing him either.
So in a weak draft you would give up a guy who was an early pick only played a few years for what? a late first round pick that will get us another kid to put a few years into that probably won't be half as good. I seriously don't understand why we would think this is a good idea, We are talking about Menzel NOT Lucas, Bootsma, or Watson which then I would understand.

exactly. even if this GWS 4 are good (which is a big IF) why not just deal with Richmond for 19 and keep menzel. much rather have menzel than yarran on the list. menzel should be worth more than yarran anyway and according to his management he'd be happy to stay. why are we settling for so little for menzel and asking so much for yarran?

I guess I must be watching the wrong games, teams, something because I just don't know what has happened to our great club since we sacked Ratts for Malthouse. We get rid of all our goalkickers and bring in the likes of Jones & Tutt then we can't kick a score but what would I know I'm just a footy head that played a heap of local football. Maybe SOS can revive the peanut guy and get us back to Princess Park and I'll start smiling more again at the footy ;)

All I know is Menzel is underperforming against expectations and potential. You tell me if it is worth persevering (keeping) or trying something new (refreshing). I am for trying something new as the current situation is not getting us anywhere. What we paid for Menzel is irrelevant, it is what he has shown and his value as it stands now. I would prefer to try out another player who demonstrates heart for the jumper with a good set of skills included, i.e. Docherty.

So you're upset that we've lost Waite, Eddie, Jeffy and Henderson, shopping around Menzal and Casbolt and have replaced them with Tutt and Jones?! You're crazy !

I'm with you all the way on this Chalky, but You know there are people who will tell you you're wrong.

Pffft. Who needs goal kickers when we have Jones?

Yes and just turned 21 at that. Why can't you see the logic in getting rid of him for a mediocre pick and a fringe player that we could obtain for very little?
Sarcasm... You've been reading my posts. Niiiiice !

I recently turned 21 also...the problem is I more recently turned 46.

Which is exactly why there must be a reason he moves clubs. The stupider it seems, the more it probably makes sense in this case.

I see your point Shan, I just think in this case, the stupider it seems, the stupider it is... I know there's a lot that goes on that we don't know about, but this just seems really really wrong. We're trying to find and draft players that will hopefully be part of our next premiership. Menzal is a 21 year old, very talented player who may have 8 years of exciting footy in him... He kinda fits the brief , don't you think? He's one less we have to find...

Looking at the end result rather than focussing only on the deal between us and Adelaide, I find myself warming to this 2-way trade which is essentially Menzel for Kerridge, Plowman, Sumner, Lamb and Phillips.
5 players for 1. Plowman on his own was taken higher in the draft than Menzel and I'm starting to think he and Kerridge maybe a suitable trade for Menzel. But then there's Sumner and Lamb, who I believe are both highly skilled but very inconsistent, and Phillips who has potential and will do at least the same Warnock does for us now. If just one of the last three succeeds, then that is icing on the cake. I would only hope that the last three have short contracts, though. Some details on all these players can be found on the AFL players ratings site http://www.aflplayerratings.com.au/Ratings/Club/9/Greater-Western-Sydney-Giants

if this was the middle ages where the army that has the most soldiers wins i would agree.

but quality over quantitiy. and our list has less class than geordie shore. we need to hold onto our talented players period. history shows that it's never that hard to find hard running hard working journeymen players. and if we really want those GWS players then we can give pick 21. don't know the odds of picking up a better player than menzel with pick 21 but i can't imagine it's that high.

Was a tough to decision to leave he reckons.
Can't have been too tough as he threw in the towel from at least half way in the season and he couldn't even manage one goal as KPF in the last 5 games at Carlton. No wonder the club gave him ' the lemonade and sarse' when he announced his intentions to seek a trade to the Cats for 2016.

Anyway luckily for him he wasn't on a performance based contract this year, otherwise he would have been knocking on the Salovs' door for a feed and a place to kip !!!

There's a lot to fix at our club at the moment, but we can't over correct. Getting rid of Menzal is trying to fix something that isn't broken...
I would suggest that the Club knows everything it needs to know about Menzel - I guess his strengths ad potential weighed heavily in the minds of the Club - I would also be guessing though that something from Menzel might suggest that the Club is trying to avoid a Yarran - next year.
