I see David King has jumped on board after going on and on about how old Freo are before the start of the season

King is a flip flop !!!.

Rosstioporosus is what he said Freo was suffering from, quote from the start of the season.

POQ King, you are didn't want to play for us, and now we don't need you to jump on our bandwagon.

Even until recently, I still think Karl's been a bit of an eagles apologist - not as blatant as some other local AFL media pundits (eg Basil Z), but is certainly overly sympathetic to them.

For example, last season when callers were laying the boot into NicNat about being overrated, Karl was his staunchest defender, saying his game was only down because he was injured. In the offseason I have often heard him say that the Eagles list is underrated.

He often says he's a North supporter / that he's supported them as a kid, etc, but don't you think being part of the inaugural Eagles team & winning 2 Premierships might have some influence on his natural footy perceptions / outlook?

I think he may have become more balanced of late because of the respect that Ross Lyon commands, & because of some insipid performances by WCE.

Of course, the best way of overcoming local institutional media bias is by winning a premiership or two.

I think many of our supporters have a complex and read more into things than what's there. We are a club that has yet to achieve much, whilst the other club in town has won 3 premierships. The reasons behind this are immaterial, as they are the facts. I don't agree with the media bias claims, just think people have a complex.

As usual, you'll find the truth somewhere towards the middle

There appears to be an error with the squiggle predictor. As far as I can tell, it has us losing to Hawks, Adelaide, Richmond and Port, yet at the end of the season we sit 3rd on the ladder with 5 losses....

Not an error.

If we are a 66.66% chance of winning 3 games, it shows all games as a win but the total result is 2 win's and 1 loss.

It is explained .

Karl is a panderer. He has always been more supportive of Eagles than us, but I think now the weight of numbers is starting to go our way he is far less inclined to make / support outrageously Eagles biased comments.

Some of the rubbish he has sprouted in the past has been beyond ridiculous, but he could always rely on the majority of the talkback callers to support him. Not so much now thankfully.

The best one of all time was around 2003-04 after a derby in which the slime won and he said that Mark Seaby would be a better player than 211.

yeah it has us getting thumped in the finals though. we only need to move 5-6 pts up attack (with a swing down defensively) to be predicted to make the GF against sydney... Their current position sees them thumping us though. They probably havent been properly challenged yet though

Cometti has a new article stating that the Eagles have become irrelevant and could learn from Freo.

https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/sport/afl/a/27282315/cometti-eagles-could-learn-from-freo/
"By contrast, a clear divide is emerging at West Coast. On one side there’s a hope the club’s rich history of stability and durability will get it back on track. On the other is the feeling things need a shake-up.

That stability and looking after their own has helped create the problem."

I wonder how looked after Ben and Dan feel.

I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to borrow your avatar for a second....

Too much love for Freo in the footy media at the moment - I don't like it!!

Yep. Hope we can maintain our standards for the next 5 months otherwise they'll turn on us just as quickly and we'll become old and over the hill again before you know it. And meanwhile, here's some more love to be lapped up while it lasts....

Yep we're getting a lot of love on SEN. Some Collingwood moll phoned up to say how they were over rating us and we have a terrible defence because we had the lowest tackle count in the league, David King (or Harfield?) response was, well it's kind of hard to tackle when you've allways got the ball. Boom!

Forget 5 months, watch a heap of them turn if we lose this weekend, which lets face it is not out to the question. Sydney would be loving this hype. I reckon this is a 50/50 game, and only because we're on our home deck. We're clearly in a good place and right up there, but AFIC Sydney are No. 1 team at the moment. Hype all you want, that's the truth of it in my mind.

So if Sydney are No. 1, and this is a 50/50 game (an assessment I agree with by the way), how big a factor is the home ground?

And in another pointed question, if it was played at, say, the MCG, would it be a 50/50 game?

No, at the MCG it would be 48.32/51.68

True home ground advantage is worth about 6 points over a neutral venue.
