FORMER Fremantle coach Chris Connolly expects Dockers management to launch a desperate bid to lure Melbourne young gun Jesse Hogan to eventually replace Matthew Pavlich.
He says entire premiership and club marketing blueprints can be built around a player of Hogan’s capabilities.
Connolly expects all 17 AFL clubs to chase the imposing power forward but the attraction of returning home will be a major bargaining chip for the Dockers’.
“You can build an entire club around that sort of very special player ... he is highest priority,” he said.
WONDERBOY: WHY HOGAN IS WOWING THE DEES, AFL
Hogan, 20, is out of contract in 2017 with Melbourne sitting in a prime spot to retain the big-marking forward.
Fremantle is known to have its sights firmly fixed on Hogan in long-term plans to ultimately replace Pavlich, expected to retire at the end of this season with Dockers scouting agents having already fired regular inquiries at Hogan’s management.
“I’m prepared to say that a development club would even take him ahead of Nat Fyfe if they had a choice. Jesse Hogan is that good,” Connolly said.
“I’m sure West Coast and Fremantle just like all other clubs will be looking at ways they can get Jesse Hogan, or they are not fair dinkum.”
Connolly expects Melbourne’s advancement this season and next year under revered coach Paul Roos to ultimately influence Hogan’s decision.
The former Demons’ football operations boss predicts a Melbourne rise toward finals under Roos with a batch of exciting young talent —Jack Viney, Angus Brayshaw, Dom Tyson, Christian Petracca and Christian Salem alongside Hogan.
“The biggest thing for Jesse to decide is whether Melbourne is going to be a top-four team one day,” Connolly said.
“The go home factor is there and the go home factor is a big deal for interstate players.”
Connolly points to the Eagles loss of champion Chris Judd back in 2007 when he headed back to Victoria after six seasons in the West as a Brownlow medallist and West Coast 2006 premiership captain.

It is clear this is our best opportunity as a club since inception. Every team plays a week at a time.
I'd rather know what you think about the possibility of tabs kicking 35 goals this year?
Will be interesting to see if we do bring Dawson straight in or mainly play him to rest Johnson or Luke.
Nice hearing Lloyd being positive about us!
