Sliding doors for Freo this week.

If.. we went out of our way last year to vigorously defend Nat in what we argued was an unfair Match Review Panel decision ...
Then ... it is only right that we this week nominate him as the luckiest player in the comp for escaping proper sanction for what he did last week.....

Are you fooking kidding me Damian Barrett, stupid flog.

I distinctly remember Barrett writing a column defending Fyfe's first suspension last year.

Yeah but he is a liability defensively, and the type of player that I have no fear of us allowing 40 possies too. I agree with the lack of other players taking vote but if you were given the ability to take 5 players f your choice from wce he wouldnt be one... I have always liked priddis and although i dont rate him as a star always thought he had done well for himself coming in as late as he did etc.... but it was embarrassing that he won the brownlow.

It's not his possessions so much as his clearances that make Priddis valuable. He averages close to 6 clearances a game over his entire career which would have to be up there with the most prolific players of all time. Fyfe is averaging just over 7 clearances a game this year, which is really good. Priddis has averaged that many every year for the last 5 years.

edit: just looked it up. Priddis ranks #4 of all time in clearances per game.

I really don't get these comments. If I remember correctly something like 4 players have been booked for tripping and not one has lead to a suspension because they were not malicious and did not cause injury. So there was no surprise.

So why is it suddenly surprising that Nat got off the same as everyone else. Is it:
a) its a Freo player therefore a dirty mongrel and should be suspended not matter what
b) we really need Nat to be suspended because the Brownlow is going to be the biggest bore in its history
c) I can't write about the Victorian players because my mates wont talk to me

A lot of people seem to be completely confused by the concept of fines.

Everyone on Facebook has been talking about Fyfe "getting off". He didn't get off. He was found guilty and received the standard penalty.

It makes no sense whatsoever and what makes this comment even worse is the fact he defended Fyfe when he was suspended last year.
So on the one hand Barrett is happy to defend Fyfe when suspended correctly (to the letter of the law at least), and on the other hand 12 months later his suggesting Fyfe is "the luckiest player in the comp" even though a fine was the clear and rightful outcome, it a mind boggling stupid statement.

I thought he supported the MRP report of Fyfe.
He thought Nat's head clash was reportable and deserved the suspension but not the others, including the Lyndsay Thomas one.

Based on this article, he tried to argue both sides simultaneously: that Fyfe should be suspended but that he shouldn't be ineligible. So it takes a bit of chutzpah on Barrett's part to try and claim a year later that he "defended" Fyfe. I also remember another more egregious article where he tried to justify the MRP, but I can't locate it right now.

Those Sliding Doors articles are pure trash. Thought that comment on Watts today was stupid and harsh

Yes. Totally unfair. The Bulldogs are on equal wins with the Hawks but arguably have knocked off better opposition (i.e the Swans) and challenged us the most out of our 7 wins to date.

To suggest that Watts sat out that game by design insinuates he was scared / cowardly.

It comes only a week after Roos and Buckley discussed the confronting nature of the media and its affect behind the scenes on players. I do not doubt that the welfare people at Melbourne have had a busy week with Jack.

To me this is no different to Barrett leaning over the fence and having a crack at Adam Goodes over his sensitivities. The media were all over that young girl - let's see whether Barrett is made accountable by his peers. That sliding doors comment is reckless and he should know better.

Could someone please tweet him and tell him I think he looks like a dork with those black rim, coke bottle glasses.
